Mika to write UK Eurovision entry?

Thursday, July 15 2010, 07:38 BST

By Christian Tobin

Mika is in talks to write the UK entry to next year's Eurovision Song Contest, it has been revealed.

Eurovision producers are apparently keen to get the 'Blame It On The Girls' singer to pen the track to avoid a repeat of this year's competition, in which the UK came last.

A BBC source told The Sun: "It's always a difficult call trying to get a decent song together for Eurovision, as this year proved. We had Pete Waterman overseeing it but we still came last.

"Mika has all the right ingredients to make a successful song. We hope he says yes."

Great, except it still isn't relevant seeing as Mika will be very old news by 2011  Mind you, he is still popular in Europe and I honestly can't call how well something like Kick Ass or We Are Golden would have done at ESC - mid-table I expect.

Having said that, he did write one of my favourite songs of the year, Gave It All Away by Boyzone, which is pretty 'un-Mika' so would be interesting to see what style of song he went with and who would be performing it.

But... all of his recent songs are terrible? and i can imagine that he views eurovision is just about being overly camp... when it isn't? The UK needs to view eurovision as X factor on an international scale.

Mika would be great, he is really popular in Europe, especially France, and he can write good songs. Would also be good if he was the one to sing it, but maybe that's asking a bit too much. Also, he's pretty recent, so we shouldn't get an 80s style song like we did with Pete. Hope its true :)

That said, I much prefer his "Life In Cartoon Motion" era to his recent era

Something like Happy Ending or My Interpretation would be pretty fantastic, but lightning doesn't strike twice and his more recent mid-tempo's/ballads have been forgettable whilst some of his more high pitched pop tracks are unlistenable. Life In Cartoon Motion was brilliant, but his second album was a limp imitation of it - same structure, formula etc...but far weaker melodies. Something like Blame It On The Girls or Big Girl would flop though I expect.

Mind you, we have these songwriter rumours every single year and they never come to fruition so I won't hold my breath.

Mika would be a fantastic entrant IMHO. OK, it's not very likely, but we UK ESC fans have to take what we can get :( He has written some very good songs, but it would have to be something pretty special to win, or at least do well enough in, the contest...

Speaking of, when is his cover of Neo's Human Frontier out? :kink:

Do you think anyone would actually notice if Neo just released it himself here that it wasn't actually Mika? :kink:

Probably not, he needs to change his name to something very close but not quite suable, Niko maybe? :kink:
If Mika sent Kick Ass or Rain, we would likely have come top ten. Anything of a 'We Are Golden' ilk would flop miserably.

^^

Fate worse than death.

Firstly, If Lilly Allen wrote the song, I wouldn't care if we came last. I LOVE Lilly Allen!

Secondly, anyone have any idea whether it will be one people can apply for. If they can, I'm on it!

The UK hasn't done that for years. Even most of the people in Jade's year were ringers from stage schools etc.

Just found out that one member of "The Wanted" took part in our selection for JESC back in 2004 :o And I think their manager is Jayne Collins, and it is her casting company who have taken care of YCNY auditions the past couple of years.

Wonder if she could persuade them to take part. After all, they're already being snubbed by Radio 1 like Eurovision acts usually are :P

Angel of Big Brother 10 (2009) fame is a friend of mine on Facebook  And today she has sent a message to me (+ I assume, everyone else she's friends with) with a link to a YouTube video, which she is hoping to submit to the BBC for Eurovision [or something like that]. Dunno if she knows the rules, as possible entries for next year can't have been made public yet, and it's over 3mins long :heehee:

Hi!

Do not miss this summer hottest music video.

Angel McKenzie presents "ALIEN LOVE".

This song was specially written and recorded for Eurovision song contest 2011.

Animated by Angel McKenzie

also feat Leonardo DeCaprio

check it out

Thank God it breaks the rules, as we wouldn't want the BBC to even consider sending this.

Horrendous cartoon notwithstanding, I like that much better than I thought I would  It's certainly better than That Sounds Good To Me.

The song itself isn't over three minutes long, and possible entries for next year can't have been made commercially available yet, so it's still eligible...

Oh, sorry, my ears couldn't stand it right until the end to see if the music finished before the video or anything

Commercially available? So - to purchase?
