Ok, I need someone very kind people in this forum to refer me to top class folk metal bands. Sort of along the lines as Tyr, Korpiklaani, Waylander etc.

 

Not just Viking Metal but all folk metal.

 

Also any decent black metal bands such as Negura Bunget, Immortal, Dekadent etc. etc.

 

Just having a boring/lazy day and wanna listen to some decent bands. :)

you should go onto last.fm and listen to the radio of stuff tagged folk metal and search through the bands tagged,

 

i have a mate who's really into folk metal, cant remember bands he was into, Finntroll, Turisas are the only ones i can think of, not to my tastes though.

Only problem with my last.fm is that it will play about 40 songs or so and then stop saying there is nothing leftto play, evn though I must have put 100 bands they are familiar with?

Might be stating the obvious but Bathory are classic.

 

Began as pure Black metal and evolved into Viking Metal and beyond.

 

In fact they were prime originators of both styles.

TBH, I've heard of Bathory. But never actually listened to them. I'll give 'em a go right now :)

Try some German "Mitelalter" (Medieval Rock/Metal) stuff.... Schandmaul, Corvus Corax, In Extremo and Subway to Sally are really good...

Other bands I would heartily recommend - Amorphis, Apocalyptica, Celtic Frost... And, just for a laugh, try out Scottish 'Pirate Metallers' Alestorm..... :lol:

They are lolz. I plan on seeing them at the soonest possible date. But I'll listen to the other bands and let you know my opinion :)

You could try Eluveitie. They're Swiss and sometimes sing in Gaulish (extinct language). I think most members are Swiss, with Anna being half-Irish and one other being Bosnian or something.

 

Primordial are also quite folky. Finntroll, Cruachan, Lumsk and Apolcalyptica are all great too.

Not Folk Metal, just straight up Black Metal but these guys are my new favourites from the genre

I love a bit of Eastern Front :D
