Posted July 19, 201014 yr ... Yeah, okay, sounds like a joke, or a play on the old Thatcherite slogan "There's no such thing as Society"... But, I'm being perfectly serious here.. Cameron is wheeling out his "Big Society" plan, while at the same time his (Bad) Education Secretary, Gove, is basically scrapping spending on school's building programmes even though hundreds of millions of pounds have already been spent.... So, Cameron wants us all to "get involved" in the community does he..? But he's presiding over draconian spending cuts which will HARM "Big Society".. You know, the "Big Society" that is Britain.... As opposed to "Big Society" the gimmicky, headline-grabbing pile of cack that got, at best, a lukewarm reception amongst the voting public during the Election.... And what of the Fib Dems...? They who were chucking rotten tomatoes at Cameron's "vision" during the election campaign when they were the left-of-centreist Party The Liberal Democrats, fighting AGAINST spending cuts, AGAINST VAT, AGAINST cuts in school spending, and AGAINST Cameron's gimmicky sloganeering...? Err, well, now, that they're the Junior Partners in the ConDem coalition, they seem to be having to do ANOTHER U-turn (which would be, err, how many U-Turns now..? One could get dizzy trying to keep track of the Fib Dems' U-Turns) and actually start cheerleading for this floating turd of a policy..... HOW'S IT GONNA WORK DAVE? When something like this needs vast amounts of resources thrown at it, it's not a "cut-price" method of providing public services at all, which is what they hope it'll be... HOW'S IT GONNA WORK DAVE? When the volunteer and charitable organisations that would be relied upon to actually see it through are themselves gonna be under-going spending cuts and serious financial difficulties HOW'S IT GONNA WORK DAVE? When the private sector has its own problems also... This all sounds great dunnit....? Empowering local communities, giving power back to the people, etc, etc..... Pity it's all empty rhetoric and spin when you do even the slightest bit of scrutiny on it.... http://newsarse.com/2010/07/19/cameron-out...-do-everything/ I stress that the above is a link to a spoof news article, but really, there are a couple of grains of truth in it.... Seems to me that this (amongst other things the ConDems are planning) is nothing more than a wholesale abdication of governmental responsibility to the people... I guess it's part of Cameron's "Big Society" plan that we maybe have to build the school buildings ourselves.... Oh, but of course, we still have to pay our taxes dont we...... Errr, why...? If you're gonna cut my Public Services, and try and get ME to do it, what exactly am I paying YOU c/unts for....? Big Society - Dont believe the hype.... Big load of old bollocks more like.. Let's see what happens if a particular community wants to form some kind of Anarchist Collective or something... I somehow doubt they'd be "empowered" to do that..... -_-
