Thank you. At least his parents aren't as worried now. It's awful when something happens to your child - even when they are very grown up.

Have just seen this - how dreadful!! Really hope he takes things slowly and gives himself the chance to recover fully.

Lots of love Darius xx

Get well soon Darius. Take it easy and don't rush back.. Make sure you are completely healed first.

I've had a fear for Darius of something like this happening for quite some years now, mainly due to his high adrenaline activities :(

Good to hear from the family, thanks Meg!

I hope he's ok and that he can heal without any need for further treatment/ops etc! At least he seems to have had a lucky escape, Christover Reeve broke his neck and was paralysed for the rest of his life.

I'm trying to be positive for D but this makes me very sad indeed

Darius will be fine as long as he finds the patience to do things properly. You'll see him on STV later this week. I don't know if he'll be good and wear the brace. He should.

Scots pop singer Darius Campbell is recovering from a broken neck after being involved in a high-speed car crash while on holiday in Spain.

The accident happened last Saturday when the Porsche in which he was a passenger skidded out of control at 70mph and smashed into a wall.

The Popstar To Operastar winner, formerly known as Darius Danesh, said: “It was absolutely terrifying. I thought that was going to be it.

“My life flashed before my eyes and I thought I was going to die.”

Darius, 29, and his two friends were able to walk away from wreck, but the star collapsed moments later.

He said: “I don’t remember the impact – it all happened so fast and I felt very dazed afterwards. The last thing I remember was being thrown forwards. Before I knew it, I had got out of the car, but I hit the ground and I couldn’t feel my arms and my legs.”

Paramedics took the Glasgow-born singer to the Hospital Costa Del Sol, where it was discovered he had broken the third vertebrae in his neck. He spent three days in a neck brace unable to move.

Darius was told by doctors that if the injury had been only millimetres to the left he could have been paralysed.

Now recuperating at his family’s home in Bearsden, he said: “I’m lucky to be alive. I’m feeling much better but I still have a neck brace.”

Darius now faces the possibility of an operation which he fears could damage his vocal cords and end his career. He said: “I hope the vertebrae heal on their own. But if that doesn’t happen, they would have to operate.

“I want to put the op off for a few weeks and hope the damage heals.”

The singer remains optimistic he will perform at the Glasgow Show 2010 on Saturday.

me too, BP - th e only thing is as he is already up and around I am hoping that it is somethign which will heal by itsself..I have read about footballers etc who have broken their necks and havent even realised and had no problems after it has healed- when I first started to read the article I felt phyically sick as I too dread reading something like this..and Christopher Reeves sprung to mind, thak god he had the sense to wear a seat belt..so often on holiday people dont bother -

If you don't treat the injury properly, it may be a problem all his life. The paralysis didn't last long but shows he has to take care. Such a shock for him, the others in the car and his family. Something happening to your children is always your worse nightmare
It's true you never stop worrying about your children however old they are, and then, when they have families of their own, there's even more to worry about and now there's Darius on top of all that, it's no wonder I'm going grey!! Glad Avril is pleased with how things are going, I'll feel better when I see him on TV this week, hopefully wearing his neck brace, but I won't hold my breath. I am hopefully going to see him on Wednesday, so if anyone would like to pass on get well wishes or that I could get a card and stick them into and give them it!? only an idea? xxx
Sounds an excellent idea, Sharon. If you could let him know that we are all thinking ogf him it would be really good. The card idea sounded good as well, so anything would be really appreciated.

I was so shocked when i read this

Take care darius, and get well soon x

pass on my best wishes as well, as megham says tell him we are all thinking of him - and let us know he is doing OK too, it is worrying not having heard any of this from the horses mouth so to speak. although he did mpost after the accident about STV and gave no hint of anything at all.

Good idea Sharon. Thank you :)

So sorry to hear about your accident.

Please wear your brace, heal quickly and don't take any risks.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Pam

aww thats a great idea to get a card

I would have came and met you Sharon on weds but am now working all day due to a workmate being off sick again this week.

Was at physio this morning and we were talking about the accident. She said how lucky Darius had been and agreed that had the break been slightly to the left he would have been paralysed and it would probably have been fatal. She did say though that he should be wearing the brace for about 12 weeks to get his neck to heal properly, so I hope he's sensible about it. She has treated people who have had the throat operation and it hasn't affected their vocal chords regards speech but she hasn't any experience of anyone who sang. Sue
It's a male thing. Thank goodness females are usually more sensible about things. He's been told the risks, shame if he wont believe they apply to him as well as everyone else.
