Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts

(Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

Singles

Eminem and Rihanna stay atop the ARIA Singles Chart for a second week with their track "Love the Way You Feel" (DL: 1 hold). Plus Eminem retains the chart crown on both the single and albums chart again this week. The entire top three all stay put, with Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull at No.2 for a third week with "I Like it" (DL: 3 to 2) and Katy Perry keeps her "California Gurls" (DL: 3 to 2) with Snoop Dogg at No.3 for a second week.

Scoring his second No.4 single is Adam Lambert who jumps up four places with "If I Had You" (DL: 8 to 5, Phys: 6 to 8), the same peak as his first single "Whataya Want from Me" (TW-45). This jump has a ripple effect in pushing down some of last weeks tracks, with "Airplanes" (DL: 4 hold) by B.o.B. and Hayley Williams dropping a place to No.5. Also dropping a place is "Billionaire" (DL: 5 to 6) by Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars to No.6 after last week peaking at No.5, and "Smile" (DL: 6 to 7) by Uncle Kracker is down a notch to No.7. Rebounding after two weeks at No.10 is Eminem's "Not Afraid" (DL: 9 hold), up one place to No.9.

There are two Top 10 debuts this week, the first of which is the new track for Newton Faulkner, "I Hate Mondays" (DL: 8 debut) debuting at No.8. It instantly becomes his second Top 10 hit after his first single “Dream Catch Me” did it in April 2008. It's a slow lilting ballad that lifts to a crescendo about our most hated day of the week, and has nothing to do with The Boomtown Rats 1979 No.1 single "I Don't Like Mondays". This is a new track for the red-dred singer songwriter which is NOT featured on his 2009 studio album “Rebuilt by Humans”, and becomes his third charting single on the ARIA Charts.

Debuting at No.10 is Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love” (DL: 10 debut), this too features Pitbull on guest vocals, and as Usher's former No.1 single "OMG" (DL: 10 to 13) drops out of the Top 10 to No.12 this week, Usher can now continue his Top 10 run with this new track. It also helps his "Raymond V Raymond" album to rebound up the charts seventeen places due to its repackaging featuring this new track, plus seven more new songs.

NEW PEAKS: Flo Rida and David Guetta's "Club Can't Handle Me" (DL: 15 to 12) is up to a new peak of No.13, and right behind at No.14, Taio Cruz jumps thirteen places with "Dynamite" (DL: 25 to 14), whilst his other new track "Dirty Picture" (DL: 35 to 24) is also up thirteen places, this one to No.18, whilst his former No.2 single "Break Your Heart" (DL: 12 to 19) is at No.20, giving him three singles within the Top 20 this week, plus his album “Rokstarr” climbs up to No.49 this week.

Mark Ronson leaps eight places to No.16 with his "Bang Bang Bang" (DL: 23 to 16) single. Cody Simpson scores a new peak of No.24 with his Flo Rida feautred track "iYiYi" (DL: 24 to 23). Climbing nineteen places and breaking into the Top 40 is Michael Paynter's "Love the Fall" (DL: 36 debut, Phys: 10 to 1) which lands at No.33 this week and scores the No.1 physical selling single of the week from Kylie Minogue, who falls to No.3. Lady Antebellum also break into the top 40 by climbing eight places to land at No.37 with their track "Need You Now" (DL: 43 to 35).

Lower in the Top 50, two double-up vocalist tracks gains new peaks, with Charice and Iyaz on "Pyramid" moving up to No.46, and up five places to No.49 is UK rapper Professor Green accompanied by Lily Allen on "Just Be Good to Green".

Jason DeRulo scores his fourth Top 50 hit by debuting at No.47 with "What if". His previous there singles all reached the Top 10, with "In My Head" scoring a No.1 debut, which falls out of the Top 50 this week, dropping to No.55, plus he hit No.5 in January with his first track “Whatcha Say”, and recently peaked at No.4 with “Ridin’ Solo” (DL: 19 to 20), which is at No.23 this week.

Below Top 50: Brandon Flowers looks set to score a Top 50 solo hit next week, but this week his "Crossfire" single leaps fourteen places to land at No.52. Jumping nineteen places to land at No.61 is New York Rockers The Pretty Reckless and their track "Make Me Wanna Die". Whilst right behind them at No.62, climbing fifteen places is Calvin Harris with "You Used to Hold Me", scoring a new peak after eleven weeks in the Top 100. John Mayer takes an eleven place leap to No.71 with his latest track "Half of My Heart".

Ciara scores her ninth ARIA Singles entry by debuting at No.75 with her new single "Ride" featuring guest vocals from Andre 3000 (OutKast), Ludacris and Rei Maeinr. He last chart appearance was in 2009 with the Justin Timberlake infused track “Love, Sex, Magic” (HP-5, April 2009) and the follow-up “Work” (HP-66, August 2009). “Ride” is the first taste of her October due fourth album “Basic Instinct”.

Nickelback are back(!) with their fifteenth charting single "This Afternoon", which is the latest release from their "Dark Horse" album (TW-51). It’s their first singles chart entry for this year, having last charted in December of 2009 with the No.64 single “Never Gonna Be Alone”.

30 Seconds to Mars embarked on a national tour last week, and the third single from their third album “This is War” debuts at No.85 entitled "Closer to the Edge". First single from the album “Kings and Queens” reached No.67 in October of 2009, second single and title track “This is War” failed to chart here in Australia.

Albums

Eminem spends a fifth week on top of the ARIA Albums Chart with his "Recovery" album, making it a third week run at No.2 for Kylie Minogue's "Aphrodite", which could claim next weeks top spot (unless Birds of Tokyo do it), as she has done a major promotional campaign during the last week.

Moving back up to No.3 is the "Twilight: Eclipse" soundtrack, keeping the Glee 5 soundtrack at No.4 for second week, whilst the Glee 4 set is down seven places to No.10 this week. Justin Bieber jumps up four places to No.5 with his "My Worlds" album, and Enrique Iglesias climbs a notch to a new peak of No.6 with his "Euphoria" album.

Angus and Julia Stone re-entered the Top 10 last week and this week they climb to No.7 with their "Down the Way" album. Re-peaking at No.8 for third time is Florence and the Machine's "Lungs" album, having previously been to this peak in April and June of 2010, and entering the Top 10 for the first time at No.9 (after 21 weeks on the charts) is Train's "Save Me, San Francisco".

Highest new entry of the week comes from newly formed Australian super group Basement Birds, whose debut self-titled album lands at No.12. The group is made up of singer/songwriter Josh Pyke, Eskimo Joe's Kavyen Temperley, Kevin Micthell (aka Bob Evans) from Jebediah and Steve Parkin. Lead single from the album was the April issued "Waiting for You", and their new track is "Not the One".

Usher's "Raymond V Raymond" has been repackaged with eight extra tracks, including his new single which debuts at No.10, “DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again”, and his Justin Bieber duet of “Somebody to Love”, which helps it to climb seventeen places to No.13, and also newly repackaged with a bonus DVD is Ke$ha's "Animal", it's up eight places to No.20 this week. Mumford and Sons are playing the 'Splendour in the Grass' festival, which helps their "Sigh No More" album to rebound up eight places to No.21. And with Adam Lambert scoring a second No.4 single with "If I Had You", it helps his album "For Your Entertainment" to climb twelve places to No.25 this week.

Sting debuts at No.40 with his tenth studio album, although this one is a little different from his past pop efforts. "Symphonicities" is a collection of his songs performed with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. Sting’s solo record chart listing is…

Another solo singer from a big band debuts at No.44, Ed Kowalczyk from Live with his first solo album "Alive", with the lead single being the track called “Grace”

Professor Green :o Is that his first Aussie hit? I know Lily is popular over there... Slowly but surely chav pop is takng over the world :puke2:

I'd hardly call a #49 smash taking over the world :heehee:

Unless it climbs of course.

I love that Adam Lambert is doing so well over there. The Australian charts are so much better than any other. If only their sales were higher.

Eminem clocks up the biggest No.1 single sales in a week since Usher with 'OMG' back on June 07, while on the albums chart, he's still holding Kylie at bay from the No.1 position by a long, long way.

SINGLES : Sssh! If you're really quiet, you might be able to hear the wind whistling through the massive sales gap between the No.1 and No.2 positions on the Aussie singles chart this week. Eminem and Rihanna are more than 7000 copies ahead of Enrique with their collaborative single 'Love The Way You Lie'. It sold a very healthy 23,422 copies this week, and by the time you're reading this, it'll have surpassed the platinum mark within four weeks.

Enrique is most certainly no slouch in the sales department either - he's sold 16,134 copies of 'I Like It' this week, with Katy Perry another 1999 copies behind in spot No.3.

Adam Lambert notches up a second top five single success with 'If I Had You'. It's up to No.4 this week with 11,666 copies down, while B.o.B. and Hayley Williams slip to 5 with 'Airplanes'.

Debuting in the top ten is Newton Faulkner and his surprise Hamish & Andy/Horgs hit 'I Hate Mondays'. It sold an impressive 8976 copies within the week after his appearance on the 2Day Network's Hamish & Andy drive show last Monday.

Usher's also in the top ten mix with his brand new single 'DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love'. A No.10 debut comes on the back of 8111 sales.

Taio Cruz will be one happy fellow - three of his singles are now in the Aussie top 20 including current US hit 'Dynamite' - up to No.14, the Ke$ha-featuring 'Dirty Picture' up to No.18 and 'Break Your Heart' down to No.20.

Mark Ronson also heads into the top 20 with his new single 'Bang Bang Bang' - up eight spots to No.24 with 4907 sales.

Local singer Michael Paynter is making an impact with his hot new single 'Love The Fall'. It's bulleted into the top 50 this week at No.33 (up 19 places on last week's position) and enjoys a further 2830 sales, while Lady Antebellum continues their rise - up to No.37.

Jason Derulo debuts at No.47 with 'What If' (1948 sales), Professor Green with Lily Allen are a new addition to the top 50 at No.49 with 'Just Be Good To Green' (1892 sales) and Alexandra Burke pops her head back into the top 50 at No.50.

Outside the top 50, Brandon Flowers' new single 'Crossfire' is heading the right way, close to breaking through at No.52, Ciara is in at No.75 with the Bei Maejor Remix of 'Ride' (1156 sales), Nickelback debuts at No.78 with 'This Afternoon' (1136 sales) and the ABC News Theme remix is rising again - up to No.80.

30 Seconds To Mars heads in at No.85 with 'Closer To The Edge' and David Guetta's former No.1 'Sexy Bitch' re-emerges at No.95.

ALBUMS : Okay, so the Eminem and Kylie chart battle continues this week, with Eminem once again emerging as the victor. But as with last week, he's done it by a long, long way. In fact, the gap between Eminem and the pop princess has widened again; this week there are more than 8000 copies separating No.1 from No.2.

Eminem sold 12,399 copies of 'Recovery' and Kylie sold 4328 copies of 'Aphrodite'.

In what is an otherwise desperately low sales week, just 2000 copies of your album would have got you into the Australian top ten. Sadly, this is the lowest number of copies required for a top ten album in Australia since we started reporting chart statistics 18 months ago.

The Twilight Eclipse soundtrack moves up three places to No.3 with 2519 sales, but it's just three sales ahead of Glee 3, 167 copies ahead of Justin Bieber and 176 copies ahead of Enrique in position No.6.

New in at No.12 is Basement Birds with their eponymous album - a healthy chart position, but sales of just 1758 copies.

Usher surges to No.13 with 'Raymond V Raymond' (a deluxe edition is due at the start of September), Ke$ha's 'Animal' also surges after it's repackage, Adam Lambert's album has the new international cover art and combined with a new top ten hit 'For Your Entertainment' surges to No.25.

Sting's 'Symphonicities' debuts at No.40 with a mere 803 sales (also the lowest sales number for the No.40 position since we started reporting sales), M.I.A. slumps to No.43 and Ed Kowalczyk debuts at No.44 with 'Alive' (730 sales).

Outside the top 100, there are three lowly debuts - Dangermouse & Sparklehorse at No.94 with just 402 sales, Professor Green's 'Alive 'Til I'm Dead' at No.98 with 385 sales and Dan Kelly at No.100 with 'Dan Kelly's Dream' (a mere 381 sales - the lowest No.100 sales since August 2009 when Hillsong's 'Faith + Love + Hope' sold 375 copies for a No.100 spot).
