OK Let's do this $h!t!

Thanks to all 67 posters who took the time to vote for their favourite female artists. The results have been added up and I shall be revealing the Top 100 over the course of the next 6 days.

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/82876803302.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697569372.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9362468472.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9362459012.JPG http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/EA61740.2.JPG

The artists shall be posted in groups of 3 until we reach the top 30 where I shall reveal them one by one complete with proper Youtube videos etc.

The results from 100-31 will include a nice little piccy, a bit of info about the artists and their stats from the competition. You should check out all the females on Spotify or Youtube as you never know what you might discover. I've certainly found a new favourites!

Until I post the first few, feel free to speculate over who will win/place top 10/be last place etc.

Let the cries of 'Britney deserves to be #1!', 'Chery Cole sucks!' and 'Cher was robbed of the top 100!' begin :kink:

Well somebody had to finish last and Shoat should be pleased that 2000s one hit wonder, Amorossi is the victim by quite a margin. Only Gooddelta seems to actually give a damn about the Australian songstress whose only UK success was way back in September 2000 with Absolutely Everybody which peaked at #7. In her home country she's landed three top 10 albums and a string of hit singles including recent #1 This Is Who I Am. which is actually fantastic! Such a shame that a lot of Australian artists are screwed over when it comes to releasing internationally. Amorisi is also one of just 4 of the females not to be placed in anybody's top 10.

It was VERY hard to actually find a decent picture of this trainwreck of a star. She causes controversy at every turn. Married to ill-fated Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain [<3], my friend Kayleigh has this whole conspiracy theory that she paid someone to bunk off her husband as he was planning to gain custody of their child... Atrocities aside, Love is also well known for being the frontwoman of rock band Hole. A fantastic group with the amazing track Celebrity Skin amongst others who rose to success in the late 90s and recently make a comeback. I demand you check it out.

Ms Spektor has released a total of 5 albums since 2001's 11:11. The Russian born singer incoporates folk, alternative and rock to her music but has struggled to gain a lot of chart success. In 2009 album Far was her most successful release to date giving her a #3 hit in America and also making the UK top 30. To be honest I only liked her song Fidelity out of all the clips I listened to on iTunes earlier today. Not really my sort of thing.

I couldn't fit Vanessa in my top 25 but I do LOVE her most recent album. Hazardous (song) is spectacular and I demand everybody listens to it pronto.

Meh at the other two.

I love Hole, but aside from that couldn't care about Courtney Love. Vanessa's 'Absolutely Everybody' is a classic of course. Regina, liked what I've heard and keep meaning to check out more.

Great layout and really impressed with the appearance - only one minor (pedantic) quibble - Hole released their first single in 1990 - a good 5 years before 1995, and before that she was in Faith No More (although not on any records and not for long).

My pedantry aside, really looking forward to this

Oh and Kate Bush for the win!

Colbie [great name btw!] is one of those artists who has a huge international hit everywhere but the UK. Her debut single Bubbly did just that reaching the Billboard top 5 and also topping the ARIA countdown. Two albums down and Colbie has already made a promising start to her career. She has a nice, mellow voice that is far more appealing than the likes of Norah Jones or Dido but imo the music falls into the same trap of being bland as hell much like the aforementioned two females. Colbie is currently gearing up to release her third studio album in the final quarter of 2010.

With an impressive 50 years in the business, Tina Turner has one of the longest careers in the countdown and she may have failed to roll out any hits since the mid 90s but has a distinctive, raw edge to her voice and style and is undoubtedly a true pop icon. She began her career alongside husband Ike Turner and went on to release her debut solo album in 1973. Tina's most well known single is easily [and ironically] The Best but she's also released the sexy Goldeneye [bond Theme] and What's Love Got To Do With It, as well as my personal favourite I Don't Want To Fight. Tina is certainly part of a group of iconic female artists that changed the shape of music for the sex and paved the way for 95% of this countdown to do their thing. Very undeserved placing.

Charlotte Hatherley is probably an unknown to a lot of people on BuzzJack. She started off as a member of Ash [joining them as a guitarist in 1997] before leaving the band to concentrate on a solo career which has had small success since 2004. [bast*rdo ftw <3]. Hatherley is one of those daring and inventive artists that plugs away in the background gaining huge critical recognition but failing to set the charts alight in any shape or form. I fully reccommend checking out the album Grey Will Fade if you have a chance.

Beyond the obvious couple of songs I don't know much of Tina's stuff. Goldeneye is BEYOND brilliant though.

Similarly I'm not aware of much of Colbie's stuff but she had a song featured on an episode of Pretty Little Liars that I liked. I think it was called I Won't.

I am not familiar with Tina either but have loved Proud Mary since i saw Miss Congeniality 2 :heehee:

This is where my information pool is a little on the naked side so I turn to my good galpal Wikipedia for help. Siouxsie started her career as the lead singer of Siouxsie & The Banshees and is one of those artists that dared to push the limitations of the music scene at the time and whose legacy is conveyed through many modern groups. She may look like she's had a round with the botox now but with a career spanning 30 years in which she's fronted two bands and launched a solo career, Siouxise puts some of the chicks in this countdown to shame. Shirley Manson of Garbage and Robert Smith of The Cure are among many who have declared the band influenced their music and sound and meant something to the industry.

Like many I first heard of Luciana when she appeared as the vocalist on Bodyrox's #2 hit Yeah Yeah back in 2006. She has a very sleazy, yet sexy look about her which is a far cry from most of the female artists dominating the genre today [sorry Ke$ha but you can't pull it off]. Luciana actually made her recording debut in 1994 but flopped miserably and has since resurfaced every now and again on various dance orientated records such as Bigger Than Big and Taio Cruz's Come On Girl. I like how she's a smidge different to most of the other females but I'm a bit undecided on her musical output.

Mmm Portishead. Gibbons is the lead singer of this Bristol based band and though they've only released three albums, their first two efforts were solid records that contain some of the most elegantly crafted pieces of music ever to grace a piece of plastic. Dummy & Portishead, brought us gems such as Numb, All Mine, Wandering Star, Strangers & more. Whilst their 3rd album in 2008 was a welcome return to the music scene, I found it somewhat disappointing as if the spark had been put out but maybe that's just me being stuck in the 90s.

Hoping Tori makes the Top 60 but probably closer to 70.

Kate for the Top 30!

I rarely warmed to Beth Gibbons' voice. It wasn't always terrible - I still love Roads, Mysterons and Sour Times.
I am not familiar with Tina either but have loved Proud Mary since i saw Miss Congeniality 2 :heehee:

Other than Tina Turner who belongs in a different list of Music legends I do not know the others.River Deep Mountain High, Lets Stay Togeather, Private Dancer,We Dont Need Another Hero are amougst my all time favs.

Thanks for all your hard work GrAmii

First thing I usually think of when someone mentions Gabrielle is that darn eye patch. She made pirates sexy. Winner of BRITs and MOBOs alike I always find Gabrielle to be extremely overlooked. Her sweet tone and ability to fuse a variety of genres together makes her music easily accessible but she's lacked a consistant arson of massive hits to continue her popularity. She has had a range of UK top 10 hits though with debut single Dreams soaring to #1 and Rise following 7 years later and probably most famously Out Of Reach from the movie Bridget Jones' Diary. Another artist deserving much higher. -_-

I expected a FAR higher finish for the former Misteeq lady. Alesha Dixon is one of those all round talented, likeable, fresh, distinctive artists. Starting her career in British RnB band Misteeq in the early 2000s, the band had limited success before Alesha persued a solo career. Dixon is proof of what a reality TV show can do for a flagging career as her triumph on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007, kickstarted her non-existant solo career with The Boy Does Nothing. A song that was so kooky, yet catchy it brought a fresh sound to the charts. Success followed with the parent album and subsequent singles. Sadly I worry for Alesha's future as both To Love Again and comeback single Drummer Boy have been terrible. Still at least she's doing better than the horse that stole her husband.

Seems like the actual 'legends' that made it through are dropping faster than Katie Price's knickers. Many critics see Mitchell as the most important and influential female artist of the 20th century. Bjork, Kate Bush, Alanis Morissette, Annie Lennox and even Madonna have been influenced by her folk style music and creative flaw with Madonna going as far to say: "I was really, really into Joni Mitchell. I knew every word to Court and Spark; I worshiped her when I was in high school. Blue is amazing. I would have to say of all the women I've heard, she had the most profound effect on me from a lyrical point of view.' I need to get me listening to some Joni Mitchell as I actually adore Big Yellow Taxi so if anybody wants to recommend any of her unknown hits for my i-pod let me know :P

Gabrielle is wonderful at times. Should I Stay? is just so understated and perfect. Joni is good. I put on Blue the other day.

I predict that these will be embarrassingly high in this countdown

I apologise if some of these comments are a tad robotic as I am not as clued up on a lot of the artists compared to others. Canadian born McLachlan is known for her emotional ballads and mezzo-soprano vocal range! Perhaps best known for her song Angel, I first heard of her when watching my favourite TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The beautiful haunting melody of Full Of Grace plays at the end of the Season 2 finale and just captures all the trauma and loss of the episode so purely, it was the first time I was actually moved by such a sequence on television. McLachlan has recently released her 7th studio album Laws Of Illusion

Before Sharleen Spiteri launched a solo career and resorted to rehasing old movie songs [terribly might I add], her vocals were put to tracks released by hugely successful band Texas. I'm a fan of a lot of the band's earlier material but felt they should've stayed in the 90s as hooking up with Peter Kay is pretty much the lowest of the low [down there with re-releasing a single with an added rapper which they're also guilty of – woops]. Texas like many bands who had MASSIVE success in the 90s wiltered and faded after the release of their greatest hits at the start of the decade yet Spiteri remains an influential female artist. Plus anybody who can throw ice cubes at Paris Hilton and threaten to knock the bitch out gets a plus in my book.

Swedish indie singer Lykke Li is a recent addition to the world of female music yet she's already made quite a huge impact with her critically acclaimed album Youth Novels. I was in love with I'm Good, I'm Gone a couple of years back. Her breathy, feminine vocals and ability to stick addictive hooks to her tracks like a stick of butter make the album a must hear record. Think of Bjork, the Eurythmics and Robyn in a blender and it sums up Lykke Li perfectly. She popped up again in 2009 when her track Possibility featured in the movie New Moon.
