Again, I'm really shocked, yet pleasantly surprised. I smell a whiff of people jumping on the Airplanes bandwagon though... I first discovered Paramore in 2006 when I heard their song Emergency. Support from Kerrang!, an infectious single in Misery Business and a slot on the Twilight film soundtrack later and they are one of the biggest bands around. Hayley Williams is the throaty voiced, stunning red-haired vocalist of the band and though their material gets a bit repetitive, I think she's a solid talent. Do listen to the video. It's my favourite song by them/her When It Rains. ^_^

I must admit, I have no love for Paramore.

Well, back in the day when I was a young, adolescent, bundle of angst, Avril Lavigne was like my idol. Now I look back and cringe at the thought. That aside, and she still has some amazing songs in her back catalogue. Avril shot to worldwide stardom with her debut album Let Go in 2002, two furthers albums followed as a well as a string of hits such as Complicated, Sk8ter Boi, I'm With You, My Happy Ending, Girlfriend & When You're Gone. Avril herself, is rather bland and odd looking if I'm honest but there's still something about her music that attracts me and I eagerly await her 4th studio album which is expected to drop at the end of this year.

I gave Rihanna a bitch slap so my dislike for her is out of my system, judging on that i will hope that Beyonce and Lady GaGa don't win.

Well I wonder if back in 1998, anybody thought that they'd be talking about Swedish born Robyn a decade later? After her top 10 hit Show Me Love she faded into obscurity over here in the UK though kept releasing material in other areas of Europe. She returned in 2007 with shock #1 and the beautifully arranged With Every Heartbeat and has been a fairly, prominent and interesting artist since then, unveiling 3 albums over the course of 2010 titled the Body Talk Series. I personally find her inventive and something different and am thrilled she got a second chance at an international career as well as how high she's placed in this countdown.

OK. She's had some reasonably good songs The Fear, LDN, Alfie but seriously  I can't stand her personality, her horrible voice or the majority of her music. I struggle to see what is so fascinating about her. Obviously when Lily enjoyed her breakthrough success in 2006 with #1 single Smile and parent album Alright Still her blend of pop, ska and reggae music filled a void that had long been missing on the pop scene and adding a hint of electro to the mix with follow u release It's Not Me, It's You was another wise move. Clearly I'm not alone as the bitch slaps suggest :P Well all hail the Chav Princess. She's at #22.

Robyn is one of the very few pop singers that matters. As a big electronic music fan I like esp. her S/T album and Body Talk series (only Pt.1 now).

Gaga & all manufactured s#!t (a big part of this top) are far away from the amazing talent of this Swedish singer/songwriter/producer.

PS anyone heard about Roisin Murphy (ex Moloko) or Annie (the Norwegian singer)?

The younger sister of Daniel Bedingfield, Natasha rose to fame in 2004 following the release of her chart topping album Unwritten. She's one of the more original female artists out there with a distinct vocal and a strange and uncanny knack of making excellent pop tunes that shouldn't work but do [These Words]. Natasha suffered from the dreaded 'second album slump' with 2007's NB which to be fair, lacked the strong material present on her debut. She's also been one of a rare few British artists to have success in America, even releasing an exclusive album full of songs lapping up the country's sound. She's currently working on new material due to be released sometime this year, of which the one song I've heard Touch is again rather different, yet still fits the mould of what's popular right now. She did well considering nobody placed her higher than #4.

024 Avril Lavigne + 267 Pts +

I keep being surprised by how many artists which haven't been hugely popular in a few years or who most people seem to be 'over' keep popping up in the top 40/30! Buzzjack clearly isn't as fickle as I thought. Avril is okay. Personality-wise she seems like a bit of a humourless cold fish but her second album (the only one I've listened to) is decent enough and she has a few classic singles.

Best song: My Happy Ending

023 Robyn + 271 Pts +

I'm a bit obsessed with her at the MO so I welcome this placing. I'm only a fan from the 'Robyn' album onwards though - the earlier stuff started out too bubblegum and then just became dull (judging by the singles). Beverley Knight's version of Fire Burning is so much better than Robyn's it's not even funny. But I digress. She's quirky enough for the indie kidz but accessible enough for the mainstream pop scene and that's not easy to do so KUDOS.

Best song: Handle Me

022 Lily Allen + 284 Pts +

I don't think it's a surprise she's so high - it's easy to forget that her first album was properly MASSIVE in terms of making her an instant household name and then she was clever enough to reinvent her image and sound second go around whilst improving the quality of the music too. It's Not Me, It's You is still patchy and some songs were wide of the mark but when it was good it was brilliant.

Best song: Chinese

021 Natasha Bedingfield + 288 Pts +

Natasha is AMAZING. Unlike most people I think her first album is her worst and she's got progressively better. Lead single aside NB was actually a really solid collection of songs with plenty of highlights and some of the new material on the PFOS album was stunning (and I still play it all the time). I really hope she's still doing this in five, ten years. She's a proper popstar.

Best song: Not Givin' Up

Delta Goodrem is an old idol of mine. Back in the day when I was a 15 year old boy, I really believed that I was Born To Try :(. Delta's debut album Innocent Eyes topped the ARIA charts becoming the best seller of the 2000s and the sixth best selling record in Australian history. It also sold over 800,000 units in the UK and spawned three top 10 singles. Her follow up record Mistaken Identity was also a solid seller but controversy over her relationship with former Westlife teletubby Brian McFadden hindered her UK career and she hasn't released any material here since 2005. I still think Delta's music and her voice are perfection but her last album was a bit disappointing so here's hoping she can change my opinion when her 4th record is released this year. Strangely, apart from her two placings at #1, only one other voter placed Goodrem in their top 10.

Not top 50 - disgraceful -_-

The Delta album was massively behind the first two albums in terms of how much I enjoyed it, however, it did contain her best song to date - Believe Again, my favourite song of the noughties in fact, so I wasn't too disappointed overall. I do wish she'd make a UK comeback though, just so I could see her live, she'll never have success here again, the market's changed too drastically.

Disagreed with Jark that Mistaken Identity was bland, it's so much more interesting than Delta lyrically and musically imo. It has so many highlights, I won't list them all as I think everything on it apart from Miscommunication and You Are My Rock is fantastic. The Delta album was like Innocent Eyes 1.5 - the grown up edition, what the hell was Woman about? Change the lyrics slightly and it could have been a Westlife album track, the production was so typical X Factor/early 00's boyband  However, I forgive her for it as amongst a sea of average and 'good' were four brilliant songs - Believe Again, In This Life, Possessionless and Brave Face, whilst One Day is weirdly enjoyable. The ballads on that album though, are truly boring, Believe Again aside, and don't have the lyrical intensity of those on MI to compensate.

[/loontimeover]

Lily and Natasha are well up there in my absolutely favourites, absolute British gems! Really glad to see Hayley do so well too, Paramore are immense!

So according to Buzzjack, the 20 artists that follow are the 20 best female singers EVER... A decent start as well with the little lady with that big, deep soulful voice kicking off proceedings. Anastacia rose to fame at the start of 2000s with a string of minor chart hits and big selling albums. I never took notice of her at all until 2004's Anastacia which included the massive single Left Outside Alone a song that refused to leave the UK top 10 despite only peaking at #3. Anastacia is one of many females in the countdown to have battled breast cancer and defeated the disease before the release of the aforementioned self-titled record. Her attempts to gain success since have been rather poor with her last album Heavy Rotation being a clumsily, put together record that failed to set the charts alight.

Back in 2003 when she released Simply Deep, I much preferred Kelly Rowland to her Destiny's Child bandmate Beyonce. However, as time's progressed, I've been underwhelmed by Rowland's output. She is clearly a huge talent but for some reason I just never really connect with her music. I think Is ee the likes of Work & Commander hyped to the heavens on here and when I finally listen to them, they're really disappointing. Stole though I liked it at the time, only really appealed to me recently when I was able to relate to it. Fantastic singer.

Robyn was my #1! I absoluetly LOVE her! All of my top 4 are gone now haha

Kelly Rowland is amazing too, as is Natasha.

I like Lily's music, but shes a bit too nasty and chavvy for me to like as a person.
