Found a decent copy online and have just watched it! As a massive fan of the originals (and actually having done karate for about 3/4 years  ) I was definitely interested in the remake!

However I was disappointed :(

Firstly, I wasn't too fond over the age of the cast. I found that at just 12 years of age, it was just a bit inappropriate. Secondly, KUNG FU?!?! The film, called 'The Karate Kid', is based on kung fu!

However, I thought the scenery was spectacular and it was nice to see Jackie Chan do some serious acting!

The original film is part of my adolescence and is something of a minor classic in a lot of ways, and Pat Morita as Mr Miyagi is just a legend... However, I refuse to go and see this on a general principle... As you say, what the hell does it have to do with Karate if it's based on Kung Fu...? Hollywood seems to be getting a bit "mixed up" again between Chinese and Japanese culture, just as they did when they hired Ziyi Zhang and Gong Li to play Japanese Geishas in 'Memoirs of a Geisha' some years back instead of casting Japanese actresses.... It's pretty simple one would've thought, Karate is a Japanese Martial Art, whereas Kung Fu is a Chinese one... Kung Fu is what Bruce Lee did and brought to the attention of Western cinema audiences, and Lee was not Japanese...

It's pretty obvious to me that the producers of this remake are merely using the title to sell the movie and are not actually interested in any kind of accuracy as far as Martial Arts or culture goes, which again, just shows the ignorance of Hollywood... As for the casting of Will Smith's kid in the title role - blatant nepotism, Smith is one of the producers of the film... So, I absolutely refuse to go see this piece of sh"t movie...... -_-

Yep I refuse to see it too. There was just no need to remake it and it looks like complete crap.
