Posted August 8, 201014 yr http://i37.tinypic.com/hukt5j.jpg Good evening once again, good people of Buzzjack! You voted in your thousands for your favourite ever TV shows. The results have now been compiled and will be delivered starting imminently. Any predictions?
August 8, 201014 yr AND WE BEGIN. 80 / Teachers / 047 Points http://www.comedy.co.uk/images/library/people/180x200/t/teachers_liz.jpg Favourite Character: Liz So, plummeting in at #80 is the fairly long-lived Channel 4 sitcom ‘Teachers’. It’s a show about Teachers and they’re in this school and stuff, it’s pretty fun. Liz was the school’s secretary, who was the only character to be in it for all the seasons (true story), though frankly she’s much better on Albert Square preaching to Pasteur Johnson. Bliss.
August 8, 201014 yr 79 / Nighty Night / 078 Points http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/nightynight/images/character_jill.jpg Favourite Character: Jill Up next is another comedy, this time from the BBC (hoorah, a BBC comedy, you just KNOW it’s bound to be incredible), which is actually detailed as a ‘Black comedy’ as the character Jill comes to terms with her husband’s cancer in comical style. Sounds fabulous!
August 8, 201014 yr TEACHERS WAS BETTER THAN WATERLOO ROAD. (it wasn't really, I can hardly remember it, but it deserved better than last)
August 8, 201014 yr Author Teachers is always really highly acclaimed but I watched an episode and found it boring. Maybe it was an 'of the time' sort of thing. Similarly Nighty Night is meant to be amazing (Kylie is a fan so it must be). It's VERY black from what I've heard. I must watch one day.
August 8, 201014 yr lolz shut up Chris. 78 / Ghost Whisperer / 087 Points http://i.ytimg.com/vi/NvzhvKm_15k/0.jpg Favourite Character: Melinda A truly weird show this. It was in fact good for one season, before it just got into the place for the insanely bizarre. As the show title suggests, the main character, Melinda (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt) can see ghosts and helps them “cross into the light”. Sounds like a fairly nice show, but it makes you wonder therefore, why only in America could a show exist where the main characters husband is dead, but living in the body of another person so the main character can still see him. It’s just strange. But whatever floats your boat and all that.
August 8, 201014 yr TEACHERS WAS BETTER THAN WATERLOO ROAD. (it wasn't really, I can hardly remember it, but it deserved better than last) Judging by the picture, it looks right up your street AaronTM!
August 8, 201014 yr Author I might try and get into GW one day (I'll say this about every show I realise). It's nice when a big film star gets a long-running TV role after their film career dies.
August 8, 201014 yr how did these shows even get through when Spaced and Flight of the Conchords didnt. Buzzjack
August 8, 201014 yr Jennifer Love Hewitt  I watched a few eps of GW and it seemed pretty good.
August 8, 201014 yr The first series of Nighty Night is absolutely brilliant, one of the best comedies ever! I liked Teachers back in the day.
August 8, 201014 yr I've only seen a couple of episodes of Teachers, it looks fairly allright and is on my imaginary list of shows that I plan on watching in full but probably never will. Never bothered with the other two. I predict a very predictable top 3 of Glee/EastEnders/Friends.
August 8, 201014 yr I've never watched a single of episode of any these 3 shows. That Nighty Night show sounds absoluetly bizzare, and not in a good way.
August 8, 201014 yr I remember really loving Teachers back in the day. Haven't watched it in aaaaages though.
August 9, 201014 yr That Nighty Night show sounds absoluetly bizzare, and not in a good way. Seriously its hilarious lol
August 9, 201014 yr Author 77 Brothers & Sisters 092pts http://www.channel4.com/assets/programmes/images/brothers-and-sisters/series-3/episode-12/brothers-and-sisters-s3e12-20090319171659-3_625x352.jpg Buzzjack's favourite character: Kevin Walker Trust the people of Buzzjack to vote this dramedy's token gay as the best character. Brothers & Sisters is a glossy US drama which boasts an ensemble cast including Calista Flockhart (made famous by 90s phenomenon Ally McBeal) and film actress Sally Field (whose most famed role was arguably in comedy Mrs Doubtfire). I watched most of the first series before I lost the thread of it but I fully intend to catch up one day - not many shows feature such a high standard of acting, and the balance of comedy, family drama and plot intrigue is perfect. 76 Medium 105pts http://images.smh.com.au/ftsmh/ffximage/2009/04/02/patricia_arquette_wideweb__470x313,0.jpg Buzzjack's favourite character: Allison Dubois I could talk all day about Medium, my favourite US import of all-time, but I'd be better off trying to loon down and just describing the basic plot: Allison Dubois is a psychic who helps the District Attorney's office in prosecuting criminals. Most of what she sees comes to her in dreams - cue lots of dramatic shots of Allison jerking upright in the bed as a particularly disturbing dream reaches its climax - and outside of work she has to deal with her grumpy, sleep-obsessed husband and her three daughters, all of whom inherited the psychic gift. Fabulous. 75 Little Miss Jocelyn 122pts http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/images/bank/programmes_tv/bbctwo_autumn2007/300jocelyn.jpg Buzzjack's favourite character: Jiffy Sadly this glorious sketch show seemed to pass under the radar a bit but it remains my all-time favourite, with more memorable characters than either Little Britain or Catherine Tate and consistently hilarious performances from Jocelyn Jee Eisen, previously of hidden camera show 3 Non Blondes. Buzzjack voted ultra-dedicated traffic warden Jiffy as the show's best character and it's hard to disagree - there's no chance of not laughing when a poor unsuspecting driver gets into their car and opens the glovebox to find Jiffy's head poking out, ranting out about working for 'her majesty the quine'. 74 Footballers' Wives 127pts http://lh4.ggpht.com/_fUYOYQLoY7E/SybDIIq9SHI/AAAAAAAAAj8/5KNMt4bAfik/s640/char_tt_p13.jpg Buzzjack's favourite character: Tanya Turner Footballers' Wives came along at a time during the early noughties when celebrity culture and the public's obsession with it had reached a whole new level, and it completely captured that fascination as we watched the goings-on off the pitch between a bunch of WAGs and their footballer partners. After 3 series the show began to show signs of being past its best and the fifth was also the last, but throughout those four years on air we were treated to a host of suitably over-the-top characters and storylines; no-nonsense PR guru Hazel with her red cropped hair and sharp tongue, uber-wag Amber who considered herself a class above her counterparts and the disgusting Frank, an old pervert who couldn't get it up but who still managed to play his gold-digging wife - which brings us nicely to the heart of the show, Tanya Turner. Truly one of a kind, Tanya made her presence known wherever she went, often by way of a suitably revolting wardrobe (often consisting of PVC atrocies such as the famed yellow-and-purple lightning dress). Looking back the programme can often seem dated or tacky but Tanya Turner remains one of the great British televisual creations.
August 9, 201014 yr I've never watched 'Little Miss Joceyln' before but just from that description it sounds quite amazing.
August 9, 201014 yr Damn I forgot couldn't be asked to vote. I remember I went to, but totally lost track after the disgust I felt at BSG not making it through. Unsurprisingly, I would have put Six Feet Under first, hopefully, the reason it hasn't appeared yet is because it is shockingly high, not that it didn't recieve enough votes to make it through to the Top 80. I mean if it wasn't for SFU breaking the mould when it came to family drama, we wouldn't have shows like Brothers & Sisters on today. (Also, nice little fact, Rachel Griffins who was a main character in SFU is also a main character in Brothers & Sisters. Another little link). Edited August 9, 201014 yr by Daniel Gleek
