I never bothered with The OC, and just sort of dismissed it as one of the billions of awful bland US shows with a hideously attractive cast but it souns very appealling from Jark's discription.

I've never been a massive fan of Emmerdale but do occasionally watch it if I have nothing else to do.

Buzzjack's favourite character: Jessica Fletcher

Up next we have our first murder drama of the countdown, and it comes in the form of 'Murder, She Wrote', which follows the works of mystery writer and amatuer detective Jessica Fletcher. What always bugs me the most about these types of shows is the person who solves the crime is not only completlely untrained, but always seems to run into murders wherever they go, eventually you'd think the police would cotton on and secretley she's involved. But nonetheless, Buzzjack must like it!

Is desperate housewives going to be on this list?

I'm sure it'll be in here somewhere, I think I put it in my top 3

Desperate Housewives didn't qualify. Okay, next up:

Buzzjack's favourite character: David Fisher

Here's one I keep meaning to watch. Six Feet Under tells the story of the Fisher family who operate a Los Angeles funeral home. It's a dark dramedy created by Alan Ball, also the mastermind behind True Blood and the highly acclaimed film American Beauty, which gives you some idea of the pedigree Six Feet Under can claim. Airing on HBO - a channel known for high quality, original drama who also aired The Sopranos and Entourage - between 2001 and 2006, it's often considered one of the greatest television series of all-time by US critics, as well as boasting one of the best finales of any drama. I can't tell you much about the characters but Michael C Hall, who portrayed David, Buzzjack's favourite (he's gay you see), went on to star in and win a ton of awards for Dexter. Basically everything about this show smacks of QUALITY. Anybody wanting to know more should talk to Buzzjack's resident superfan, Daniel Gleek!

65 Ashes To Ashes 175pts

Buzzjack's favourite character: Gene Hunt

Now for something I'm a bit more qualified to comment on! The successor to the hugely successful cop-goes-back-in-time drama Life On Mars, Ashes once again featured maverick cop Gene Hunt and this time introduced us to Alex Drake - cue the reason A2A was as huge as it was. These two opposites - he with a total disregard for the rules, no concept of thinking before speaking and a spectacularly unhinged method of driving a car, she with her worrying, her play-it-by-the-book attitude and her perfect sense of style - had as much chemistry as you will ever seen between two characters on television. Sparks flew between them and that's testiment to the fabulous acting abilities of Philip Glenister and Keeley Hawes. Possibly my favourite scene from all three series was in the penultimate episode of the last, when they slow danced in Alex's candle-lit flat and it looked like they might finally hook up like they'd both been wanting for such a long time. Alas, it wasn't to be. If that was eclipsed by anything it was Alex and Gene's final goodbye as she passed over. Truly beautiful television.

Of course for many the highlight of the show and the reason for watching was Gene himself, one of the greatest cop characters ever created and absolutely overflowing with (animal) magnetism and charisma. From his beloved red Audi quattro to his questionable snake skin shoes, Gene was absolutely one of a kind. His one-liners are too huge in number to choose a favourite, as anybody who's seen the show will be all too aware of. A once-in-a-generation crime drama which got better and better with time.

Favourite Character: Melinda

A truly weird show this. It was in fact good for one season, before it just got into the place for the insanely bizarre. As the show title suggests, the main character, Melinda (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt) can see ghosts and helps them “cross into the light”. Sounds like a fairly nice show, but it makes you wonder therefore, why only in America could a show exist where the main characters husband is dead, but living in the body of another person so the main character can still see him. It’s just strange. But whatever floats your boat and all that.

WTF? THANK YOU FOR SPOILERING IT MUCH?! I was hoping to resume watching it from 4th episode of series 1 exactly where i stopped, in about 13 years time!

Buzzjack's favourite character: Summer Roberts

One of the great teen dramas of all-time, The O.C. enjoyed massive success at its peak, becoming a kind of 90210 for the noughties. It told the story of the relationships between a group of family and friends living in the luxurious surroundings of Orange County, California. There were four primary teen characters - Seth Cohen and Summer Roberts, on-off bf and gf, and Ryan Atwood and Marissa Cooper, also dating. An interesting twist on their ridiculously wealthy lifestyle was that Ryan was the son of a criminal who the Cohens as good as adopted and became the legal guardians of, so there was an always an element of him feeling awkward accepting anything from them despite them loving him like a son. What always made me laugh was that he got to live in the poolhouse, a lavish all-in-one annexe right by the swimming pool, whilst Seth got stuck with a boring old bedroom in the main house. There was a very good episode where it's absolutely pissing it down with rain - and it never rains in the OC - and Seth and Ryan are looking at one another, Seth at the kitchen patio doors and Ryan in the poolhouse. Neither one of them wants to get wet so they just converse on the phone instead. How I crave that lifestyle.

Buzzjack voted Summer Roberts the best character in the show. For a time she was definitely my favourite but later I realised that the show was literally ALL about the adult characters and I think that's what differentiated it from other, more vapid teen dramas. The adults here were more interesting than the teens by far. Sandy Cohen, the coolest screen dad of all time, gave the show an incredible heart in my opinion; his wife Kirsten and her battle with alcoholism and subsequent stint in rehab was one of its best storylines (the episode where the Cohen family stage an intervention and she's carted away shrieking with tears is heartbreaking); Marissa's mom Julie is one of the most fabulous characters ever created - destructive, nasty, work-shy but happy to take all the credit, but ultimately desperate to be loved; and Kirsten's dad (also Julie's much older husband) Caleb was one of the most formidable characters on TV. Basically there was barely a weak link in this show but the adults are the ones who really shone. A 00s classic.

SHAME ON YOU IDIOTIC BUZZJACK.

<3 Criminally LOW though.

OMG EASTENDERS FOR NUMBER ONE!!!!1!1 I have never seen such beautiful TV show. I mean the first 8683 episodes are just OMGAMAZING.

LOST? Who watches this horrible show?!

Six Feet Under and Samantha Who? are both also on my never-ending list of programmes I like to pretend I will eventually get round to watching. Six Feet Under I have caught tiny bits and pieces of it though.

Murder, She Wrote

I only watched Ashes to Ashes because Lars Croft is in it (Keeley Hawes)

I'm sorry Pavel, but seriously don't bother watching it, it's dreadful.

I know, Aidan's internet personality is much more interesting than this show actually.

Buzzjack's favourite characters: Herbert, SS Joseph Toye & Winters

Band Of Brothers is, surprise surprise, another show I've never actually seen but have heard ALOT of raving about from many people. It's a ten part mini series based on a book of the same name, and produced by Stephen Speilberg and Tom Hanks. It was first aired in 2001 and follows the stories of soldiers in the Second World War.As the series is based on real-life events, the fate of the characters is the same as their real world counterparts, so therefore it sounds pretty emotional and interesting.

Samantha Who? is amazing. Such a strong sitcom and much better than the generic How I Met Your Mother / Two And A Half Men $h!tE that people seem to eat up!

the fact complete $h!te such as Eastenders will be above this is quite frankly insulting. Band of Brothers is a f***ing masterpiece.

The fact that you've just branded EastEnders 'complete shit' when it's produced moments which can easily rival the best of television drama over the decades is 'insulting'! Fair enough you just haven't seen them because you don't watch but it's ABSOLUTELY deserving of topping this list - IF it does, of course, that's not a clue or anything - based on stuff like the Tony grooming Whitney storyline and Stacey's bipolar disorder diagnosis, just to pluck two examples from the last 18 months...

Jark, don't deny it! Chris speaks the prophecy; nobody else gets a say in what is good and what is not. ;)
