"Glee" Creator Confirms Britney Spears Will Appear In "Britney/Brittany" Episode

Director of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ and creator of ‘Glee’ joined Ryan on-air this morning to discuss his new movie as well as raise and ease speculations regarding upcoming guests and episodes of ‘Glee.’

Murphy’s discovery ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ is unconventional, at best. After going through the ‘worst break up of all time,’ he and a friend were at a bookstore when store employees began unloading copies of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ onto the shelves. Ryan’s friend suggested he buy the book, so he did.

“I really loved what it was about, which was about the power of second chances, and it’s never too late to become the person that you want to be and don’t let other people determine your life path, and all those, sort of fantastic things.”

As for how Ryan landed the gig to direct ‘Eat, Pray, Love,’ he told us that it happened on a whim.

“One day, I got a call out of the blue from Julia Roberts agent who said ‘We hear that you’re a fan of this book. Julia’s a fan of this book, would you want to write this and direct this?’ And I said, ‘Do I have to audition? Are you kidding?’ and she was like ‘No, you have the gig.’…So, I did, and in the process of doing it I fell madly in love with Miss Roberts.”

And how about that awful break up that led him to ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ in the first place? “The break up was the best thing that happened to me…because not only did it lead me to ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ but also to Glee which has been a really happy phase in my life. And I don’t think I could’ve found happiness without going through some sort of darkness.”

Ryan’s final words about his new summer flick were “If you cannot go on vacation this summer, go to this movie because this movie will be like your vacation because we go all around the world. It’s beautiful places, beautiful food and clothes and people.” ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ is in theaters this Friday!

‘Eat, Pray, Love’ star Javier Bardem is one of many celebrities who are vying for a spot on an upcoming Glee episode. After attempting to congratulate Javier on his success at the Cannes Film Festival, Ryan remembers that Javier said, “I don’t want to talk about this, I want to talk about Glee!” Bardem will probably appear on the show, but not as the type of character he hoped to play. “He wants to play like a weird Spanish rock and roll star but I think I’m going to have him be like a ‘No Country For Old Men’ janitor!”

About the overwhelming success and hundreds of requests from celebrities to appear on Glee, Murphy thinks it’s because of two things, “[The show] is about arts education and I think everybody wants to support that and…all these celebrities who want to be on this show…are the product of arts education…But the other thing about this show is that anybody who feels like an outcast or a nerd or misunderstood really gravitates to it, and I think it applies to people…who love the show…and love to root for the underdog.”

Rumors have been circulating that Paul McCartney has been asking to be on the show. Murphy confirmed these rumors, and told us how Paul had sent him a “sweet letter” that said “Here’s a list of songs that I love that I think would be great for your show and I hope you’ll consider me.” Of course, all those songs were #1 hits, so Murphy said he is “absolutely” going to start doing some more Paul McCartney songs on the show.

Murphy also squashed rumors about Shuester shaving his head for the Britney Spears episode revealing that that particular episode will focus on her music and not her personal life. The plot for the Britney episode? “Remember when you were in school and the dentist came in and had you chew the blue stuff and if the blue stuff was on your teeth it meant you were a bad brusher? Ok well John Stamos is on the show now and he’s the dentist, and he comes in for National Cavity Week and there’s four of the kids who have terrible dental hygiene, and those kids have to go get their teeth cleaned, some of them under anesthesia and that’s when the fun Britney stuff happens because the kids are really wanting to do a Britney episode and the teacher says no, so they have fantasies of how they can be like her.”

So Britney will definitely be appearing in the episode. He really wants this episode to be very “reverential about her,” because Britney is “pop culture, and I want to do something that says ‘thank you for what you’ve done and we’re encouraging you to continue to be doing as fantastic as you are.” All in all, it’s false that Shuester will be altering his hair in any way for the Britney Spears tribute.

The rumor mill also has it that Glee will be doing a Michael Jackson episode, directed by ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ judge, Adam Shankman. “I don’t have any plans right now to do a Michael Jackson episode so Adam’s not directing that, but he is directing one that will be a big, big, juicy spectacle….It’s really hard to clear Michael Jackson music.” Murphy does want to do some more Gaga in future episodes, and thinks a Prince tribute would be “amazing” for the Glee spot after the Super Bowl.

The most recent confirmed addition to the Glee cast is Carol Burnett, who will play Sue Sylvester’s Nazi killing mother. After catching all the Nazis, Carol returns to her daughter. His inspiration for Sylvester’s mother figure came from a Facebook campaign!

Gleeks all over are highly anticipating the next season of Glee, and Murphy reassures them that production for the popular musical show has officially started.

“You can always tell when we start production of Glee when all the girls drop a dress size and all the boys are working out fanatically. So that was lat week. We started shooting last week for the first episode.”

In Ryan Seacrest’s interview with Adam Shankman last week, Adam mentioned that he and Ryan Murphy talked about doing the Oscar’s together, but Murphy admitted that he had “not been asked, it’s not been floated around. But if I were, I would do it with Adam in a heartbeat!”

With an air of mystery and anticipation surrounding the future season of Glee, and an air of positive remarks circling ‘Eat, Pray, Love,’ it seems that Ryan Murphy has struck gold this summe! Be sure to check out ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ in theaters this Friday, and tune in to the season premiere of Glee on September 21st!

I'd be quite happy with that apart from MATM but it was obvious they were gonna do that one, as that will be the one that actual Britney will perform in won't it?
