January 15, 201114 yr Bah :( I'm sure a similar thing happened last year with my favourites in Semi Final 1 being eliminated straight away. I'm not really feeling the love for Vardlokk though, it's alright, but there's no hook. It's certainly nowhere near Alvedansen and Nocturne in terms of quality.

I'm not really feeling the love for Vardlokk though, it's alright, but there's no hook. It's certainly nowhere near Alvedansen and Nocturne in terms of quality. That was my point when I first heard the songs - great production but the melody's hardly amazing (or indeed present). Looks like a poor year for MGP and Norway unless the next two rounds are far better, both of the 2nd chance songs are crap too imo.
January 15, 201114 yr Hopefully Sichelle or Carina get to second chance through the 5th place thing. I spoilered because Tom did, and because I didn't know if anyone would be waiting to watch it later. During Melodifestivalen, I'll certainly be watching that live and MGP after. They could, but they're still no hopers now :( You could use the same argument in the (always busy) live Eurovision final thread here every year - or X Factor results shows - I think people are more likely to watch those later than the NF's, and nothing in there's ever spoilered. I'd just recommend not to look in here before watching if you don't want to find out who's gone through.
January 15, 201114 yr f*** [2] (see the Icelandic NF thread). Just FUCK. I should just get back to listening to Avril/Anastacia on repeat while cutting out Ashton Kutcher's photos from 9 weekly teen magazines all at once. I am a DISGRACE that shouldn't be called a ESC loon :(
January 15, 201114 yr I'm not really looning over it much the NF's this year either tbh, partly down to my terrible internet connection and bandwidth problems this year, which I didn't have last year. I've come to the conclusion that I'm a Eurovision and Melodifestivalen loon and the rest I can take or leave  There just aren't enough hours in the day to hear all of the songs from all of the NF's, so I tend to ignore the majority. The gems will get brought to the surface by more serious NF loons anyway and I'll listen to those ones then :P
January 16, 201114 yr I would never thought Åste og Rikke would qualify to the final :( Very glad Helene Bøksle qualified thou, at least Gatas Parlament didn't make it! I was sure they would be DSQ because of their t-shirt with Maria Amelie :P she is an illegal immigrant and won "Norwegian of the year" in 2010 :P
January 16, 201114 yr Brilliant Semifinal. Truly AMAZING. Maybe that's due to practically all the songs being in norwegian  As for the performances it goes something like this: 1. Helene Bøksle - Vardlokk 10/10 Almost perfect. Something lacks, maybe a 'hook', don't know. 2. Åste & Rikke - Not that easy 10/10 STUNNING. Y'all have no taste. -_- Completely deserving a place in the final. Only Helene should've finished first :( 3. Use Me - Daisy 9/10 Pretty good vocally. There was something AMAZING in this performance, it lacked something too though. Of course i can't say what it is in either of the two cases lolz. 4. Sichelle - Trenger mer 8/10 Back vocalists totally blocked her voice. Other than that pretty good. 5. Sie Gubba - Alt du vil ha 7.5/10 Folk motives <3 6. Carina Dahl - Guns & boys 7.5/10 So much for stealing Mira's ideas?! -_- 7. Gatas Parlament - Jobbe litt mindre og tjene litt mer 6/10 Average. The only bad song in this beautiful bunch. So my Top 2 went through. Great. :w00t: Expecting quality decreasing in heats 2 and 3. :( Edited January 16, 201114 yr by Illuminato
January 16, 201114 yr Oh god. Aste & Rikke :/ If Norway sends that to Dusseldorf, they will be a laughing stock... Why? It's very classy for what it is... I'm really not at all understanding the dislike of Aste & Rikke in here.

And since when was something that lacked a hook even APPROXIMATING 10/10?
January 16, 201114 yr Author That ah-åh song was actually really good. Will give Helene a run for her money in the final I'd say! I like the fact that Helene's song isn't your typical verse chorus verse course bridge chorus song. It does sound quite odd in terms of structure, but it's still amazing.

January 16, 201114 yr Why? It's very classy for what it is... I'm really not at all understanding the dislike of Aste & Rikke in here. Wasn't (and I quote) 'LOL' your initial reaction to it? It's not that I dislike it, but Tom hit the nail on the head - it sounds like an N-Tyce album track or a Deetah b-side, the production is really ancient. They do have great voices though and part of me can see why it's gone straight to the final. Slightly O/T but I'm watching the Eurovision 1997 DVD right now to bask in the glory days, and frankly it would have made a GREAT entry for Norway in that very contest, particularly considering the nul points that they did get!
January 16, 201114 yr Åste's voice is absolutely stunning. So as Rikke's but less. Another example that not only song's production decides if it is a hit or not. You can even have a hit only with charisma involved (see Caroline Af Ugglas - not particularly ground-breaking song production, and vocals). I imagine the song getting boring by the time of the Eurovision if it wins though :(
January 16, 201114 yr Snalla Snalla has timeless production, piano ballads don't age very easily if it's the only instrument used! I definitely disagree with that opinion, even the best vocalists can be harmed by crap production/material - see Christina Aguilera. I'll probably love this song in a week, remember my 7.5 rating for Satellite :magic: I haven't heard the studio version of Aste & Rikki yet anyway, which is what changed my view on Satellite so immensely, will download it now.
January 16, 201114 yr Well, i didn't say that artists with good voices are immune to anything. There're 3 components: voice, a song itself and charisma. Some people can do it with charisma and only a bit of the rest (Satellite - i mean WTF is so good about this song if it was sung by someone else?!). I'm afraid in XTina's case there was no charisma at all, since NMT is so awfully generic and emotionless.

I'm afraid in XTina's case there was no charisma at all, since NMT is so awfully generic and emotionless. True, I do agree with that. Jennifer Braun proved that it's a very run of the mill song if sung as an MOR ballad. But with Lena's personality/voice and the more contemporary production, it made it something very special indeed. Poor Xtina, I really wish she'd put her amazing voice to better use, she needs to take a listen to Stripped and remember why she used to be good -_-

LOL was the initial reaction from the clip, but it really worked on stage as a hook whereas on first listen in the clip it came off quite tacky. Almost Hold On Be Strong-esque onstage actually!
January 16, 201114 yr I haven't heard the studio version of Aste & Rikki yet anyway, which is what changed my view on Satellite so immensely, will download it now. I'm the opposite of this. I've just watched the live performance, and I prefer the song a lot more now.
January 17, 201114 yr Author Next batch of songs are now online, here. Not too shabby! Isabella's song is my favourite from those clips. Endre's song is quite nice also, but it screams Sistesjansen :P
January 17, 201114 yr Pernille & Marius - I'll be yours Sounds quite catchy, in an S Club 7 sort of way...one to hear in full before passing judgement Babel Fish - Depend on me Norway's Take That, or Norway's Lonestar? I can't work it out...the brief harmonies at the end of the clip suggest the former, could be good. Marika - Hungry for you (Gipsydance) Doesn't sound particularly Norwegian...Guri Schanke 2.0! Can't make enough of an impression of it from the clip. Isabella - Sand Sounds a bit like Lissie or somebody like that. Could be very good indeed! Endre - Oh oh (Puppy love) This year's Bjorn Johan Muri? Sounds catchy (and cheesy) Hanne Sørvaag - You're like a melody I recognise the name, Scandipop songwriter? Sounds decent if not amazing. Mimi Blix - Allergic Ooh dance-pop alert! I'm excited about this one - will go the same way as Sichelle though :/ Well I'm honestly interested to hear all of these! They all show some potential I think.
