Posted August 15, 201014 yr Shane Meadows [the writer from the original film] is still involved with the new series alongside Jack Thorne (Skins, Shameless). The new four part series continues from the film four years later. Majority of the original cast are still in the film and trailers are already being shown on Channel 4. la7diucB_dg
August 15, 201014 yr Real shame they are ruining the brilliant film with something like this. f***ing Jack Thorne and his $h!te television shows. And eww it has that wretched 'want to see my tits' girl in it again.
August 15, 201014 yr sorry the promo hurt to watch, and futhurmore, the film was brilliant, tv series that follow brilliant films normally make me want to hurt people, also, the fact someone who has worked on Skins gives me no confidence, why Shane Medows is letting this be amde is beyond me.
August 15, 201014 yr Author Also got this promo: uBBFBf9Kraw But that just makes it look like an 80s version of Skins...
August 15, 201014 yr Oh dear God what have they done. If it wasnt made by morons to make it Skins in the 80's, and had more of the grittiness of the film, and wasnt the same characters, it would make a decent drama, but however that is not the case, brb going to go slap channel 4 execs for being morons.
August 15, 201014 yr Author This is what Wikipedia had to say about the premise: It will be set when the 1986 World Cup was in Mexico, Chris de Burgh was number one in the music charts and 3.4 million people were unemployed in Britain. As Shaun (still played by Thomas Turgoose) writes his last school exam, he realises he will have to find his way in the world. His friends — including Woody, Lol, Smell, Gadget and Meggie — are still around, looking for love, entertainment and employment.[15] Meadows said that Combo (again played by Stephen Graham) would return, that the fate of Milky would be revealed, and that part of the story would be based on a wedding between Woody and Lol that would be called off. He said if the series succeeded, he would follow it with another series.
August 17, 201014 yr I don't think it'll be QUITE as bad as Chris imagines it being - they're probably playing up the Skins element to diversify the audience a bit, I can't imagine they'll completely abandon the grit - otherwise why would they have emphasised the context of 1986? Plus, it will get absolutely slaughtered if it leaves This Is England behind completely, and I'd imagine the writers have enough sense to know that...
August 18, 201014 yr Author I'm hoping Shane Meadows has enough sense to see that... It doesnt premiere until September but if this is just an 80s version of Skins, I will be dearly disappointed in Mr Meadows.
September 7, 201014 yr So, this premieres at 10pm tonight. I expect to see Chris posting about forty expletives in a row about an hour later.
September 7, 201014 yr Did anyone watch this? I was going to, but i couldn't be bothered in the end. Was it good? :)
September 7, 201014 yr Well that was f***ing $h!t. Honestly what a way to ruin a f***ing masterpiece of a film. Shaun was basically a f***ing cameo part, the story was w***, and that horrific 'Smell' character appeared to much, replusive I almost puked everytime she was on screen.

It stayed fairly true to the original movie's tone, with the exception of the side-story with the gang - which was really the only point it verged on 80s-Skins-ness.
September 7, 201014 yr Author I cant say I see this being very good :( If the series is going in the direction I think its going, it looks more like a soap opera than a gritty drama. Tonights episode concentrated too much on the relationships between all of them instead of the political exposure that the film had. Hopefully later episodes change this.
September 8, 201014 yr Where were the race issues? Considering it was the main feature of the film pretty much. :s
September 14, 201014 yr fail at a character in todays episode wearing a The Cure - Bloodflowers t-shirt when Bloodflowers came out in 2000. nice one channel 4.
September 28, 201014 yr Overall, I didnt think it was great, not sure there was much point to it, the direction was brilliant (some of the use of silence = wow), but just don't think it was that great. that episode was pretty f***ing distressing.
