Will Young's spooky new drama Bedlam filmed in Manchester

There will be plenty of spooky goings on in new TV show Bedlam, shot on locations around Manchester, when it airs next month.

And it certainly got the drama’s stars, who include pop star-turned-actor Will Young, tapped into their supernatural sides as well.

For Will, who plays nerdy Ryan in the spooktacular new Living TV drama about strange goings on in a former mental asylum converted into luxury apartments, tells me he’s rather used to living with a ghostly presence.

He says: “My own house, I think, has got a presence. I haven’t seen it but my brother has and my dog also does. I’m a big believer in that – of feelings in haunted houses.

“I’ve been in haunted houses and I didn’t enjoy them. I think you can pick up on energies. It’s like when you go into a house, if you’re buying a house, you know if it’s right for you or not.

“I don’t know about ghosts to look at but I do believe in ghost spirits and energies.

“I live in a haunted house and I feel quite protected there, weirdly.

“But I think there can be good and bad spirits. I feel protected by her. I’m a big believer in angels – I think we’ve all got two angels looking out for us. I’m right into that whole thing.”

There was plenty to chill the bones of the actors on the sets as well – which include the spooky-looking former GMB College on College Road, Whalley Range which doubles as Bedlam Heights, the pre-Victorian asylum-cum-luxury flats in the show, while the tiled basements of Victoria Baths in Chorlton-On-Medlock were also used for spooky medical and torture scenes.

Actor Theo James, who plays troubled Jed in the show, cheekily admits he played pranks on his co-stars, who also include Full Monty star Hugo Speer and Strictly Come Dancing champ Kara Tointon, to give them an even bigger fright on set.

He says: “The locations have been really creepy which has really helped, to be honest.

“And I’ve also been trying to creep every body else out.

“When we were in the basement at Victoria Baths it was really cold and dark, and I kept saying: ‘can you hear that scratching noise’ just to freak everyone out!”

I hear there’s going to be plenty of suspense in the show, as well as a fair old splash of horror.

Theo says: “What I loved about Bedlam is that it really goes for it, especially with the horror. I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.”

» Bedlam starts on Sky Living HD on Monday, February 7 at 10pm.

Wow!!!!! :o

http://media.entertainment.sky.com/image/unscaled/2011/01/24/Ryan-McAllister-Will-Young-Bedlam.jpg

Young, sexy, smart and spooky... what's not to love? Here's all you need to know about the hottest characters on Sky Living's Bedlam.

Will Young's character, Ryan McAllister, has been scarred by the death of his brother, James, who was murdered almost a year ago. He's one of the first people to learn that his flatmate Jed has special abilities, and seizes on this quickly in the hope that Jed might be able to contact the ghost of his brother.

Ryan's not yet found the right person for him - and he's not sure if he wants a Mr or a Mrs Right

Ooh!

Full Name: Ryan McAllister

Age: 25

Is He Single? Ryan’s not yet found the right person for him. And he's not sure if the right person would be a man or women. He’s not confused by his sexuality - he definitely knows he’s bisexual, though not openly. Ryan’s attracted to Kate, but knows she’s unattainable. He doesn’t see the obvious - that Molly would be perfect for him.

His Life: Ryan’s life has been scarred by the death of his older brother, James, who was murdered a year ago. He idolised James and always hoped he could emulate him.

Did You Know? Ryan and Kate lived in halls together at university.

Ryan Says: "Every single one of us has an atom that was once part of Albert Einstein. Which I suppose means we're all part genius. And part German."

More added by Sky!

Everybody has a dark side.

That's the tag line for Sky Living's brand new spooky drama series, Bedlam.

And it's a phrase which is bound to haunt the lead characters as they settle into Bedlam Heights, the converted lunatic asylum that they have chosen to call home.

Kate (Charlotte Salt) has been working with her father, Warren (Hugo Speer) to renovate the former asylum into the latest in modern living. She's also bagged herself a rather stylish flat in to the bargain, smart girl, which she now shares with best mate Molly (Ashley Madekwe) and Ryan (Will Young).

That's until Kate's troubled cousin, Jed (Theo James), turns up. He says he just needs a place to crash, but the creepy goings on at Bedlam Heights soon start to get under his skin. Can he really 'Save Kate'? And from whom, or what, does she need saving?

Bedlam is bound to bring a shiver to your evenings.

Watch this if ...

You need a good excuse to snuggle up just a little bit closer to someone on the sofa.

You like good old-fashioned ghost stories and tales that go bump in the night.

You love Will Young.

Oh my - happy in his braces

Where did Julie get them from Bev? Is there a link?
