IT'S TONIGHT!! :w00t:

Nice about Will again...and the show sounds thrilling.

Who's in it?

The ever-lovely Will Young shows off his acting chops as Ryan, acting alongside the likes of Theo James, Ashley Madekwe and Charlotte Salt who play Jed, Molly and Kate respectively.

In a nutshell

This spooky new series is set to ensure that those long dark nights of February are anything but boring. Set in an old mental hospital, Bedlam Heights, the spirits of the old patients are re-awakened as the place is renovated and converted into apartments. So while the new inhabitants might be planning on enjoying their classic Victorian flat, the vengeful spirits of the dead have other ideas.

Stacked with terrifying hauntings, apparitions and a whole other host of spine-tingling supernatural shenanigans, the show will put each resident through their paces as they try to withstand an other-worldly onslaught. As a whole history of unhappiness, dark secrets and mental instability combine with the undead, the big question is, who, if any, of the flatmates will survive the nightmare?

What's the verdict?

Clearly trying to pack the frightening punch of Paranormal Activity, X Files and the like, this is a hugely ambitious show that looks set to become a cult hit. It's a bit of a surprise to see Will Young in the mix, but you've got to give the boy credit for choosing an unusual series like this so early in his acting career. Sure beats a bit part in Emmerdale...

SUPERNATURAL SERIES

Bedlam 10pm Sky Living.

Pitched squarely at Ghost Whisper fans, this new six part supernatural drama starts out interesting and gets considerably better as it goes along, Will Young stars as one of the residents of Bedlam Heights, a block of swanky flats that used to be (wait for it) an asylum. In this opener a disturbed man who receives text messages from the other side arrives at the heights with a mission in mind.

I'm really hooked on the series just by watching the first episode, I really can't wait for the next episode it looks rather good.

A nice tip, don't watch it on your own otherwise you wet your pants and turn the lights on.

Review here

Well, if you were disheartened by the disaster that was Outcasts tonight, you might have found Sky Living's Bedlam a pleasant surprise.

The premise of the show is that a former lunatic asylum (is that a politically correct term?) has been converted into a block of luxury apartments. There's a cast of hot young things who are at the center of the story, headed in part by Will Young who has no plans to leave right now (har har) even after witnessing a haunting...

Let's give you a quick who's who: Will Young plays Ryan McAllister, a geeky type whose brother died in a drowning a tear ago. Charlotte Salt plays Kate, the daughter of the property developer who owns Bedlam Heights. Ashley Madekwe plays Kate's flatmate Molly, while Theo James plays Kate's cousin Jed - a medium who can see ghosts.

And this is where we make our predictable Ghost Whisperer comparison, because Jed successfully helps a former Bedlam inmate 'pass over'.

When it comes down to it, Bedlam managed a fairly good ghost story to start off with. Essentially the ghost of a woman who was drowned is after revenge on the person who's wearing her ring. The same ring Kate's father gave her for her birthday - found on the premises during the restoration work. None of this is obvious at the beginning - this is all hindsight of course.

Aside from the drowning ghost, we discover that Ryan's dead brother still haunts the river where he died. I get the feeling that this is a setup for a later episode, because Ryan was very keen to find out the extent of Jed's abilities. And Kate's father looks like being the villain of the piece - I've read that he's got 'history' with the building...

Now, Bedlam's not absolutely perfect. Some sequences felt laboured and some felt cliched, but overall a strong start. There were plenty of questions raised, mostly around the text messages that Jed was receiving - "Save Kate". These turned around when Jed saw a graffiti message "Save yourselves from Kate" on a wall at the end of the episode. And the faces of spectres staring out the windows.

I suspect a fairly formulaic approach from hereon. It'll depend on how the episodes are handled, but based on this first episode, I'm expecting good things.

Good review. Thanks Bev.

Came on to post that this had me intrigued

So easy to warm to Ryan's character. He plays the sad, confused geek so well.

The Metro.

Will Young with his pants at half mast attempting to ravish his female landlady – now that’s what I call acting – was among the highlights of Bedlam (Sky Living), a spritely attempt to jump aboard the Being Human bandwagon.

Set in a spooky luxury development, the site of an old mental asylum (so far, so Psychoville), Bedlam has ghost spotter Jed (Theo James, mostly with his top off) looking moody as he hurtles around trying to stop the dead from running riot.

Borrowing from every horror movie cliché in the book – malevolent spirits drowning people in the bath is this month’s thing – Bedlam won’t win any prizes for originality. But with an engaging cast and sumptuous Gothic interiors, Bedlam is a fine way of being given the willies on a Monday night.

I rather liked seeing his trousers at half mask

This got me thinking that Kate is not quite the sweet Kate that she is meant to be, without giving too much away.

I've also posted a thread topic in the TV forum :D

I reckon she's a hard nosed business woman Mart!n. Think she may have just been toying the Ryan in the opening scenes. What a prize bitch!

Thanks for starting the thread in the tv forum.

Editing to say it seems only us Will fans watched it. :P

I Loved the first show..i love the way it was set up..I like Molly and Jed and Adorable Ryan  but Kate came across quite heartless i think and Warren for now is an enigma!

This is on the Bedlam page on Face Book
