September 12, 201014 yr I really enjoyed Everyone wants ot be Jack, and Bda bing bada boom, even though I had a giggle when he announced it - not so keen on crazy love. as I liked the chorus but found it a bit repetative. Thes songs, as did all the numbers sounded so good live with the live band, you cant get the feel for them online.
September 12, 201014 yr Sooooooo hope you can get to book your tickets very soon Sue!! :) ......its so frustrating when this happens! OMG soooooo glad that Darius sings the 3 new songs on his Big Band Tour. :D .......cant wait to hear them live myself next month!! :yahoo:
September 12, 201014 yr It's a shame the show isn't a bit longer. Perhaps as co-producer, narrator and singer in a show called the History of The Big Bands, Darius felt he couldn't hog the stage and as has been said, maybe that length of time was all the band could do without a break. Perhaps too the constant criticism about the length of GWTW and the difficulties of people getting home afterwards made Darius more aware that his show will play during weekdays too and made him a little more cautious. If Darius later wants to make the show a bit longer, he could always give the band a break for a while and sing more of his own songs to a backing tape and then bring the band back for a good singalong medley at the end. I'm intrigued that a big band style Colourblind works. I'd prefer brand new ones, but I wonder which of his other songs would work.
September 12, 201014 yr Author I don't think it'd work to a backing tape. Live with a band is just so different to taped. Darius said that rehearsals had been tighter than they would have liked as he lost so much time with because of the problems with his neck. The next show will be even better. We all have our favourites - I like the deep tracks and would like more of those but others like the more Sinatra type and would want more of those.
September 12, 201014 yr Of course! Darius has bounced back so quickly that it's easy to forget how serious it was and how long it usually takes people to recuperate from such trauma. Me, I'd like to hear more Dean Martin style. I have fond memories of the Christmas medley Darius did on This Morning and the Dean Martin style one was exquisitely done. Darius could even sing the Italian ones now. I prefer Darius's deeper range too. I much preferred the Dive In tour baritone "Under My Skin" to the recent versions I've heard. It seemed a strange song to sing at that time but I loved it and it gave me goosebumps, as did the completely different Mercury Rising and Simply Like The truth. September 12, 201014 yr Author I'd quite like Nat King Cole. I'll go through and write down what the tracks were later. Darius is incredibly aware of his neck - Whatever he says, it must have worried it. He's standing even taller now - I felt like a midget and I'm used to tall men. His voice is lovely and we know he's been doing this style since 2004 at least.
September 12, 201014 yr I really quite liked Crazy Love, thought it was catchy and the chorus sounded good. It was good to hear 'his' voice again The audience seemed to like it best too.
September 12, 201014 yr yes, I loved the chorus of Crazy love, but I found it similar to the jack one some how, I adore his deeper range, would have loved some more Nat King cole or as BT says, Dean Martin. but then there are so many songs I would have loved to hear with the band, just not the same with a backing track - I just loved the live band sound with his voice.
September 12, 201014 yr Author We have a professional video to look forward too. Maybe Christmas presents? Anyway, I think that these were Darius' numbers Let's Face The Music And Dance The Way You Look Tonight Fever (The last half of this was brilliant, when he'd relaxed a bit) Can't Take That Away From Me Fly Me To The Moon You Make Me Feel So Young The Lady Is A Tramp I've Got You Under My Skin Devil In You Badda Bing Badda Boom Everybody Wants To Be Jack Crazy Love Colourblind
September 12, 201014 yr Thanks Meg. Would loved it to have included 'When I Fall In Love'. Great news about the video. Sue
September 12, 201014 yr professional video..DVD would be preferable as I havent replaced our video recorder as it seemed pointless. would love a DVD, husband mentioned this after the show
September 12, 201014 yr Author dvds are video dvds. I just hope it gets released - if not, I hope we get it put on line
September 13, 201014 yr lol, yup I was thinking that in bed last night, had a time warp moment - realising that no one would release a video these days - but so used to video meaning a tape! but it was too late to get up and use the PC just to say I took video the wrong way, I was glad he was selling CDs at the gig, and am really happy if a DVD may be available. September 13, 201014 yr Author It's being recorded further on in the run. At least it's happening which is better than we've had before.
September 13, 201014 yr Further on in the run means it will be better as things will have settled down, and minor adjuustments will have been made. It must have been a hectic time for D with not only the job of carrying the show on stage but also being responsible for the production side. Plus being hampered by his injured neck.
September 13, 201014 yr I thought it went exceptionally well for a first night - nothing major struck us that had not gone quite right
September 13, 201014 yr Author Darius is a perfectionist - I'm looking forward to see what changes. it's one of the reasons I like first nights - you can see how things grow.
