Having heard them live, I think they've all got strong choruses. Badda Bing Badda Boom is the one I was singing all the way home. It's Jack this morning.

Having said that, I'd like Darius to sing the verses just a little higher. He's melodic enough in bass but to my ears it's like a sung rap that far down and the lyrics don't come over as well as they could.

The lyrics have always been important to me in songs and I think that's one reason why I've always loved darius's own songs.

Maybe I'm just nit picking because although it was the first time they'd heard them, the audience last night seemed to appreciate them.

I didn't like any of them the first time I heard them. I do like the way he sings them now - and find they keep going around my head - specially Badda Bing. ALthough I love the chorus of Crazy Love. Jack's taken longest to grow on me but it has now. There are Darius songs I have never got to like and I'd thought these'd go with that group but they haven't

I'm not sure I like the new arrangements of Devil In You or Colourblind. It's maybe just the shock of hearing new versions of songs I've heard so often and always loved.

I can always summon up a mental vision of D at NUTS singing DIY to Natasha.

Nah - he was singing it to me - I was sitting between Booth and Natasha - easy mistake for you to make though.

Devil In You will never be a song I like but, it's his life, his career and his choice and I'm happy for him to sing it. After the initial jar of hearing it so different, I like 'Colourblind' this way. It just took an adjustment of my expectations and they way I heard it.

I hope DIY doesn't make the album. I'd feel quite cheated.

I wouldn't mind if it was a bonus track but I'd be miffed if it kept a newer song off.

Well, he did say it was a mix of his own songs and covers, so we'll just have to wait and see. DIY wouldn't bother me on the kind of album he's doing now - it was a sore thumb on 'Live Twice' though. I would probably skip the track - and 'Colourblind' if that were on it too
he did say at woking diy was from his last album, so hopefully it wont be on the new one - i would prefer all new material, covers etc - just something we havent had for some years -

I'm just not keen on covers although I know it won't be lazy covers like so many are........... ones where the singer strolls in and sings the melody and then disappears and lets a team of professionals add all their wizardry and produce a well rounded recording. Then the singer may come back and do a few bvs.

I also know that it's when Darius does sing covers that people sit up and take notice, but I can't help how I feel.

mm, i would prefer self penned, but on the other hand -after hearing fever i need that for sure - same goes for the matt munro ones, darius renews my interest in a song as long asthey arent too ver used ie fly me to the moon i probably would skip as the song is too familiar
I would love the cover on his album of If you go away from the matt monro concert where he also sang in spanish because it showed his range, his emotion and his ability, was beautifully sung and has not been done to death like fly me to the moon. Although the badda boom etc maybe catchy it reminds me of ricky martin and does not show off his voice.

if i go away, adore this and desperately need it on cd,

i love crazy love's chorus for showing darius' voice off well love the melody as well, i just feel the verses should have conituned that feel more.

I feel he should go down more the matt monro type of song road rather than the pop song style ala ricky martin etc mainly because he himself is older and because they do show off his great voice. Also MM has lasted and is still played regularly on radio so he must have been doing something right. Like meg I am not keen on the big band sound simply because most of it is too well known and done to death with the rat pack and other acts etc etc but does D realise this as its obviously new to him.

No me dejes no (If You Go Away) was outstanding.

I'd like to have a completed version of his own Italian song he sang on Alan Titchmarsh's show but that wouldn't fit on an album limited to one style ..........swing.......... either!

I think The History of The Big Bands is limiting to a certain extent. He more or less has to do Top of the Pops for each bandleader, so naturally those songs are some of the best remembered by those who were around when they were fresh. He can't do the history and miss out the best known vocalist who moved from band to band and is one of the most covered artists ever - Sinatra.

hubby reckons there must be lots of songs that werent aired much if at all from that genre, album tracks etc that darius could look to record, instead of doing ones that have been done to death,

if you go away is one that is not heard a lot - probably coz its a difficult song, and is just so listenable, where as like you say some are so covered its become the easy option

feeling good was great too, again another song with more too it, something you think it would be good to hear again

hubby thought he did fever exceptionally well

I do see what you both are saying but to me that era of frank sinatra apart from being covered so much does not stretch or show off his range.
I say that because If you go away for instance did showcase some of his range without being operatic if you know what I mean.

So, Up to now, I'd like

Badda Bing

Jack,

Crazy Love,

If You Go Away,

Fever,

Feelin Good

A slightly different version of:

Save Love

No More

So I have 8 wants at the moment. I do think that his voice sounds brilliant in 'When I Fall In Love' as well and I would just love 'Oh Lord Wont You Buy Me' as well
