The first ever Youth Olympic Games kicked off in Singapore last Saturday. Young athletes from the 204 NOCs are competing in almost every Olympic Sports (only waterpolo, synchronized swimming and track cycling are left out)

Great Britain's only medal to date was gold on taekwondo, with Jade Jones winning the girl's 55 kg category.

There is absolutely no interest in these - I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first and last Summer youth olympics

That would leave China very upset - they've already won the bid for 2014 :kink:

More gold for Britain in rowing in the girl's pair races. (Georgia Howard-Merrill and Fiona Gammond)

There has been an European version of these Youth Olympics every two years since 1991 (1995 edition in Bath) as the European Youth Olympic Festival, and it was Jacques Rogge who came up with the concept, and no wonder that when he became the IOC president, he would want to take it to worldwide level.

As eJackulate said, the next edition in 2014 will be in China (Nanjing). The first Winter Youth Olympic Games will take place in 2012 in Innsbruck (Austria).
