Posted August 19, 201014 yr From esctoday: http://esctoday.com/news/read/16065 Castings started today Former contestants apply in Ukraine The first castings of the Ukrainian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 took place today. Meanwhile, tt has been revealed that two former Eurovision Song Contest contestants will apply: Verka Serduchka and Anastasiya Prikhodko are both trying to represent Ukraine in Germany next May. Verka Serduchka represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 finishing second with the song Dancing lasha tumbai. The song went on to become a hit in Europe reaching the top ten of the single charts in France, Finland and Sweden. Anastaiya Prkhodko took part in the Ukrainian national selection in 2009 but did not make it past the semi final. She then entered the Russian national final winning with her song Mamo, performed in Russian and Ukrainian. She finished 11th in the final in Moscow. On 21st August, 30 acts will be chosen to move forward to the next round. Both experienced artists and newcomers are allowed to take part in the selection. During the castings, the contestants may perform any songs and the potential Eurovision Song Contest entries for the national final will be chosen in October. In early September, a special TV programme will air showing how the 30 acts were chosen. In October, the chosen artists will perform their final songs and the top 20 for the national final will be determined. In the national final, the winner will be chosen by a mixture of jury voting and televoting. The show will be hosted by Tatiana Goncharova and Timur Mirushnishenko. In 2010, Ukraine was represented by Alyosha, who finished seventh in the second semi final and tenth in the final with her song Sweet people. What do you think about the familiar faces? Verka could flop with the juries. Anastasiya Prykhodko could do well if she has a good song. Hope they don't feck it up this time. :kink:
August 19, 201014 yr So are they choosing the actual entry in October? That would be earlier than Albania :o I hated Verka, and "Mamo" was ok, but I hated the performance, so to be honest I hope neither of them make it.
August 19, 201014 yr Author I think the songs that are shortlisted will be made public in October, and then the finalists are selected for a national final (whenever that may be). :D "Mamo" was a bit marmite. She had better performances on Star Factory (or whatever it was called). . :kink: Edited August 19, 201014 yr by Cal
August 19, 201014 yr Mamo remains the single most hilarious Eurovision performance of all time Yes, even beating the famed wink in Shine 2010.

August 20, 201014 yr I guess choosing in October gives them time to change their entry THREE TIMES :drama:
August 20, 201014 yr Author Some changes: NTU decided to make some changes in the 2011 national selection format. First of all Verka Serduchka who entered the procedure as applicant, took a wildcard to the final. NTU said that castings are for young artists to prove their skills and talent and Verka is already a known artist for his talent. NTU announced the final date, February 27. Twenty songs will compete in the final and we already know the first participant. Original plan for two quarter finals is now skipped and the broadcaster will have 30 contestants in a series of semifinals (ten in total) between October and December, one contestant eliminated in each show. :D
August 20, 201014 yr I can already see Verka representing them again :snif: Thankfully, when it comes to the actual contest, the juries shouldn't go for it :magic:
August 23, 201014 yr Verka was immense  . Not been a huge fan of his recent material though sadly.
August 23, 201014 yr Verka! One of my all time favourite Eurovision entries! :D sieben sieben ai lyu lyu sieben sieben ein zwei sieben sieben ai lyu lyu ein zwei drei! :P
October 15, 201014 yr Gutted [3] :( Let's hope Ukraine does it correct this time.. their national selection in 2010 stressed me :P
February 26, 201114 yr Ukraine entering a fairly strong ballad, certainly my favourite slower number selected so far... qegQDzF7YGw
February 26, 201114 yr I like it! Nowhere near as much as Nadine Beiler's ballad but I'm obsessed with that. This is SO much better than Sweet People though for me.
February 26, 201114 yr This selection was the one I chose to watch (I think I should have gone with Estonia) and there were only a few decent songs really. This was one of them and I think it could be a grower - pretty good :)
