July 17, 200618 yr We do keep being told that Gareth made it big in Asia a few years back. We are told Gareth was successful in Asia because he was successful in Asia. I'm sure Shayne would much prefer to secure his position in the UK first before branching further afield. I'm sure Shayne will be happy with his success wherever he is successful. I wish him luck.

July 17, 200618 yr Anyone who does well in Asia, particularly, has to spend time out there and promote. Gareth was happy and prepared to do that - Will wasn't and isn't. He has other irons in the fire and doesn't seem to want to travel in these countries. The only country he seems interested promoting in is South Africa. Edited July 17, 200618 yr by munchkin
July 18, 200618 yr Indeed. It takes effort and committment. If Shayne has that, I wish him well, as I have already said.
July 18, 200618 yr The guy has a brilliant voice! He's just given c**p songs I agree. He has got a brilliant voice. I hope now things will be re-thought and his career is not ruined for him. If Shayne feels he will get a better and less biased chance internationally then good luck to him. Unfortunately, it seems, generally in this country we are not able to see talent in more than one or two people, whereas internationally the public are willing to give a listen to a wider range of talent.
July 18, 200618 yr Why is the Will /Gareth thing brought up yet again  Shayne is just a clone of Gareth BUT hasnt/wont have as much success as Gareth -_-

I have to disagree with you there Val. Just look at our charts and the wide variety of acts that are selling on them. From a host of Indie bands to the likes of Lily, Sandie and Norah, to rock acts, James Blunt types and unfortunately the odd US rapper for those that way inclined. If that isn't listening to a wide range of talent, I don't know what is. I think we can all be excused for not wanting a trip down memory lane with a dated Shayne type solo though, nothing to do with his talent, just a dire choice of material.

July 18, 200618 yr Why is the Will /Gareth thing brought up yet again  Goodness knows. It's bloody dull isn't it? but if he had so much successs in other countries why did he stop releasing his music there, and i am not trying to get a dig in. just puzzled and interested. The last single he released in the Uk was released there also and was very successful. Given that he hasn't since released anything, anywhere, and was away for a break, to sort out his speech and to work on the next album. there would have been no logic in him doing something else specifically for Asia...though I know some bands/ artists have done so in the past. I would assume that when he releases again, he will once again promote there. Shall we get back to Shayne now?

The fact remains Marguerite, if all acts were given an equal share of promotion on Radio playlists, things may be a little different. Whether you like a song or not, it must be pretty obvious that if its heard non-stop on the radio, more people get to hear it and perhaps have it grow on them. I think even you will admit that some artists get far more exposure than others just because their face either fits or doesn't fit with the DJ in question. Like I've said before why do the DJ's or the people behind the radio stations have the right to promote who they think people want to hear. They could be totally wrong. Obviously I'm not advocating everyone should be played equally, but at the moment its totally unjust and has been for quite some while.

Oh yes, I do agree, but I think maybe you're talking about a couple of specific acts not receiving airplay. Shayne certainly hasn't, although he is on R2 b list. His fans were complaining that even a certain Manchester DJ wasn't playing Stand By Me, even though he likes Shayne. The fact is, the song's dated and probably doesn't fit in with the styles of some DJs slots. Just for the record, Shakira hasn't been getting much airplay either (at no.38, her highest yet this week) doesn't seem to have harmed her sales much, does it? ;)
July 18, 200618 yr Just for the record, Shakira hasn't been getting much airplay either (at no.38, her highest yet this week) doesn't seem to have harmed her sales much, does it? ;) No it doesn't. But then Shakira is a global star. It does prove though that the Radio stations play what they want to play and not what the public want to hear ;) In Shakira's case, she didn't need the radio to promote her. She's well known enough to do it herself. That doesn't apply to some new talent outside their personal fan-bases. Like I said your face has to fit or have some influence in other ways to be given wider promotion in those cases. Mind you some times I think it eventually turns people off when you hear the same songs being played almost incessantly, but by that time the DJ's have done their job for the artist in question so it doesn't really matter.
