04 + '4 In The Morning' + 8.941 +++ 11.0 from West and Johnkm + 6.0 from nickthenoodle

The third single off of 'The Sweet Escape' album, which peaked 20 places lower than its predeccesor ('The Sweet Escape', #2). It's a very good song, with fantastic production, that is almost slightly enchanting (if that's the correct word I was thinking of), and it's definitely one of the album's highlights - I myself rated it far too low (and I did give it an 8.5!). The chorus is sweet and Gwen's vocals are at their best. This definitely deserves its placing here, and it's another that's almost universally loved, it seems!

04 + 'Rich Girl' ft. Eve + 8.941 +++ 10.0 from Parker, Chriss_S, West, Cremey, Robot and nickthenoodle + 6.0 from Johnkm

Okay - I'm going to rewrite everything I just typed... I'm quite on the fence with this song, when I'm not listening to it, I find that I detest it - but then I relisten and think "it's alright", certainly not as bad as I remembered it to be. The chorus is okay, but the fact it's basically a cover of a Jewish song from 'Fiddler On The Roof' puts me off it for some reason. Despite Eve and Gwen recording quite a brilliant cover 4 years prior to the release of this, she puts in a very bad couple of verses, which also puts me off the song. Anyway, Buzzjack do love them a bit of this, but I personally wouldn't place it in Gwen's top ten.

Rich Girl really isn't better than Hollaback Girl by any stretch of the imagination but it's still decent. Eve is probably the highlight.

SHOCKED that 4 In The Morning is so high but then come to think of it I've never really considered how popular it is or isn't with her fans. It seems like the 'forgotten' single to me. Which is a shame.

03 + 'The Sweet Escape' ft. Akon + 9.059 +++ 11.0 from Silver Rocket, Angelic Shine, Theo. and JakeWild + 1.0 from nickthenoodle

Aah. This brings back memories, sort of. I loved this in 2k7, and was absolutely hooked on it for weeks on end - so was very pleased when it beat the previous single off the album of the same name - reaching #2 in March 2007. The production is catchy-as, with Akon's (little) imput also being a very appealing feature to the song. The video is another crazy one, showing Gwen (literally) escaping out of prison, dressed as Rapunzel and all sorts. This was my favourite Gwen song for quite a while, but I think it's now behind the two songs left in the top three, since I bought 'Love. Angel. Music. Baby.' and got hooked. I'm glad nobody (bar hateful Nick) hate this though, as with the Akon tag - I'd think it'd be the most hated song on the album!

The Sweet Escape is quite boring in my opinion... Akon doesn't do any favours too.

The Sweet Escape is probably her one song with the widest appeal - the hook is huge and I can't imagine many actively disliking it but it's really nowhere NEAR the standard of songs like What You Waiting For, Cool, Serious, Danger Zone, Wonderful Life etc. The production is pretty flimsy.

02 + 'Cool' + 9.647 +++ 11.0 from Jonjo, Cremey, Robot and nickthenoodle + 7.0 from Chriss_S

So just pipped to the post by 'What You Waiting For?'; well, not just; but it did just pip 'The Sweet Escape' into second, thanks to Nick's generous 11.0 (infact - I lie! They would've drawn second, without Nick's 11.0 and 1.0 from each respective track!). As I said in the "what are you listening to?" thread, this is so so close to being my favourite Gwen song, with absolutely lush vocals; this is one song I could listen to on repeat for hours and hours, without getting bored! Also - if I were to name only one song that peaked at #11 that deserved higher, in the UK charts, it'd be this one for sure! The music is just as lush as Gwen's lyrics, so this definitely deserves to place in Gwen's top three as one of her all-time greats!

01 + 'What You Waiting For?' + 10.088 +++ 11.0 from JamesP, Parker, Chriss_S, Tyler, West, Theo. and Johnkm + 6.5 from Jonjo

I'll start off by saying that this truly deserves this title - it showed everyone who Gwen was without No Doubt and how much her sound had changed since then. It also, in my opinion, cemented herself as one of the best female popstars of the 21st Century! The song - and the 'Love. Angel. Music. Baby.' album, infact - are some of my favourite music outputs ever! The hook to 'What You Waiting For?' is crazily infectious, which sort-of makes me want to play it on loop for ages! The bridge is just as gorgeous, with Gwen wailing "oohhhhhhhh" one of my highlight sections. I'm glad this has managed to receive such overall high scores - bar Jonjo and his measly 6.5 - although without them, the lowest it rated was 9.0. This is also one of the highest average results I've seen on an album rate on this website - along with Alicia Keys's 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart', which topped the 'The Element Of Freedom' rate back in February.

Both songs are incredible. Cool is just sublime. What You Waiting For? seemed like something beamed from the future when I first heard it in 2004 and it's still fresh now. Debut solo singles really don't come any better than that. It's what turned Gwen from a star into a superstar.

Cool is alright. Hardly deserving #2 but oh well!

WYWF is absolutely incredible though, one of the best songs of all time. I still have goosebumps listening to it! :o

3 DAYS LATER...

16 + 'Don't Get It Twisted' + 6.882 +++ 10.0 from Jonjo and Robot + 0.0 from nickthenoodle

How this got so high is beyond me! This is my least favourite off 'The Sweet Escape' album (I could guess that by Nick's score!), with annoying backing music and the same generic formula as the majority of the lame 'The Sweet Escape' album.

Too low! :drama: Knew it wouldn't do well though :(

'Cool' is very much so deserving of it's number 2 positioning! Her best ever single/song, easily. Deserving to be behind WYWF?? Nah. WYWF? is horrifically overrated and I'm sad I seem to be a lone ranger on this :(
