TLC is an American R&B girl group, originally consisting of lead singer Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. Although originally conceived as 2nd Nature, the group's name was later changed to TLC by their manager before they were signed to LaFace Records in 1991.[4] The group achieved commercial success following the release of their debut album Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip, which was certified quadruple-platinum by the RIAA[5] and spawned the top-ten hits "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg", "Baby-Baby-Baby", and "What About Your Friends?".

 

The height of the group's career was established with the release of their second album CrazySexyCool, , which became the first album by a girl group in history to receive a diamond status, selling over 11 million copies in the US. Two of the album's singles, "Creep" and "Waterfalls", both topped the Billboard Hot 100. Despite all the success, the members of TLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 3, 1995.

 

In early 2002, just before the release of TLC's fourth album, 3D, Lopes was killed in a car accident in Honduras. Watkins and Thomas promoted 3D as a duo. In 2005, the pair hosted a reality television show, R U the Girl, with the winner receiving the chance to record a song and perform once in concert with the surviving group members. Watkins and Thomas have released solo material, and continue to collaborate occasionally. In October 2009, TLC announced plans to record new material to be released "sometime soon

U2 are a rock band from Dublin, Ireland. The group consists of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums and percussion). The band formed at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in 1976 when the members were teenagers with limited musical proficiency. Within four years, they signed to Island Records and released their debut album Boy. By the mid-1980s, they had become a top international act. They were more successful as a live act than they were at selling records, until their 1987 album The Joshua Tree, which, according to Rolling Stone, elevated the band's stature "from heroes to superstars".

 

Their 1991 album Achtung Baby and the accompanying Zoo TV Tour were a musical and thematic reinvention for the band. Reacting to their own sense of musical stagnation and a late-1980s critical backlash, U2 incorporated dance music and alternative rock influences into their sound and performances, abandoning their earnest image for a more ironic, self-deprecating tone. U2 have released 12 studio albums and are among the most critically and commercially successful groups in popular music. In 2005, the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Rolling Stone magazine ranked U2 at number 22 in its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".[3] Throughout their career, as a band and as individuals, they have campaigned for human rights and philanthropic causes, including Amnesty International, the ONE/DATA campaigns, Product Red, and The Edge's Music Rising.

The Kooks are an English indie pop band formed in Brighton, East Sussex, in 2004.[1] Formed by Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar), Paul Garred (drums), and Max Rafferty (bass guitar), the lineup of the band remained constant until 2008 and the departure of Rafferty. Dan Logan was drafted in as a temporary replacement, until Peter Denton joined the band on a permanent basis in October 2008. Early in 2010 Pritchard announced the departure of drummer Paul Garred, due to a nerve problem in his arm.

 

A self-described "pop" band, their music is primarily influenced by the 1960s British Invasion movement and post-punk revival of the new millennium. With songs described as "catchy as hell", The Kooks have experimented in several genres including rock, Britpop, pop, reggae, and ska, at times being described as "a less severe Arctic Monkeys".

 

Signed to Virgin Records just three months after forming, The Kooks broke into the musical mainstream with their debut album Inside In/Inside Out (2006). The album was ultimately successful, achieving quadruple platinum status in the UK within a year and also overseas in the form of a platinum certification in Australia and two times platinum in Ireland. The Kooks found themselves entering into mainstream media attention, with the band winning the award for Best UK & Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2006 and picking up a nomination at The Brit Awards for the single "She Moves in Her Own Way.With their follow up Konk (2008) debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart it recorded first week sales of 65,000, achieving gold status in both the UK and Ireland.The Kooks are currently working on their third studio album.

Monrose- who?! :wacko: even worse that they've finished so high!

 

B*Witched- oh dear, I did kind of like Cest La Vie :blush: but seriously their a gimmicky group, shouldnt even be here

 

Suede I understand are legendary, I have yet to hear their music unfortunately, surprised their this high on buzzjack! :o

 

TLC were pretty good I guess- only really know Waterfalls by them though

 

and oh dear at U2 that low :cry: legendary group and deserved top 10, their songs are great and they have done some truly amazing songs like One, With Or Without You and Beautiful Day- I guess its people's dislike for Bono :(

 

and the Kooks were OK, now they've pretty much vanished- although I did like them when they were at their peak

The Kooks had two decent songs and are knocking on the door of the top 40 whilst Take That missed the top 75 despite at least 7 or 8 solid gold pop classics under their belt at least? Mad.

 

At least The Cardigans were nearly top 50! :wub:

TLC are/were simply fantastic. I'll admit that this time last year I was somewhat unfamilar with the majority of their stuff except Waterfalls and No Scrubs but I've slowly track by track listened to their second and third albums and can safely say that I love both.

 

She Moves In Her Own Way and Naive were both fairly decent songs, but The Kooks were never anything special and were simply latching on to the fact their sound was current at the time. I certainly have no problems with their growing into obselite irrelevence.

 

Oh dear at Monrose being this high. Had no idea they were that well liked or well known on the site. I quite liked Hot Summer, but thats really all I know from them.

Monrose did alright due to people giving them high marks! They weren't on alot of people's choices but when picked were quite high up.

Monrose are amazing. The only good girl group around right now.

I love "Beautiful Ones" by Suede, one of my all-time favourites, such a feel good song!

IIRC I voted for Monrose too. They make good pop songs, they are German, formed in 2006, released 4 studio albums and are more established than, say, Saturdays. They just don't release anything in the UK. If they were - Buzzjack would eat it up. :P

Bloc Party are an English rock band, composed of Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Russell Lissack (lead guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass guitar, synths, backing vocals, glockenspiel), and Matt Tong (drums, backing vocals). Their brand of music is said to have been drawn from such bands as Mogwai, The Cure, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, and in their more recent work, Radiohead.

 

The band was formed at the 1999 Reading Festival by Okereke and Lissack. They went through a variety of names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. Moakes joined the band after answering an advert in NME magazine, while Tong was picked via an audition. Bloc Party got their break by giving BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand's lead singer, Alex Kapranos, a copy of their demo "She's Hearing Voices".

 

In February 2005, the band released their debut album Silent Alarm. It was critically acclaimed and was named 'Indie Album of the Year' at the 2006 PLUG Awards and NME Album of the year which both honour indie music respectively. That year, the record was also certified platinum in the UK. The band built on this success in 2007 with the release of their second studio album, A Weekend in the City, which reached a peak of number two in the UK Albums Chart and number twelve in the Billboard 200. In August 2008, Bloc Party released their third studio record, Intimacy. The band are currently on hiatus as of 31 October 2009.

The group Big Brovaz originally comprised three women, Cherise (half-Jamaican and half-Irish; won the MOBO best unsigned artist in 2000), Dionne, Nadia (born in Reading) and three men, J-Rock (real name John Paul Horsley, born in Washington DC), Flawless (real name Tayo Aisida, born in Lagos, Nigeria) and Randy, plus two producers Skillz, also known as JJC (real name Abdul Bello, born in Kano, Nigeria), who also manages his group 419 squad, and Fingaz. The group was often referred to as a softer version of the So Solid Crew.

 

The group was brought together by Fingaz, one of the collective's producers, who already worked under the title "Big Brovaz". The "Big Brovaz" team asked the individual members to showcase their talent alongside underground London R&B and hip hop artists on a compilation that was being put together, entitled "Big Brovaz - Watching You". On the album, rather than giving each member an individual track, the producers decided to make the artists work together and perform on the same tracks. The chemistry between all of the members developed and so the Big Brovaz compilation album in fact became the group.

 

The "Big Brovaz - Watching You" compilation was a highly successful underground release and sold over two thousand copies. The live shows to promote the release built up the reputation of the producers and artists on the record.

 

A track from the album which featured west London R&B singer Cherise was picked up by the organizer of the annual MOBO award and she was asked to compete in the annual Mobo Unsigned talent competition, walking away with first prize. Cherise was signed and later release her own solo album. Following this, the group was picked up by Sony records and the rest is history.

 

Female member Cherise released a solo album "Look Inside" before the debut album from Big Brovaz was released. It only spawned one single, however, "2nd Best", while the album won a MOBO award.

They were a fairly big six piece male/female (4 of whom are absent in this picture) pop/rap group who were successful in the UK in 2002/2003 - the guy on the right reminded me so much of 50 Cent :lol: They also participated in the UK ESC NF in 2007 but lost out to Scooch, just like Cyndi notoriously did!

 

I'm surprised they're well remembered and liked enough to almost come top 50 here :o

He reminded me of a more pleasant-to-look-at 50 Cent as well! :lol:

Alphabeat are a Danish pop band from Silkeborg, fronted by singers Stine Bramsen and Anders SG and signed to Polydor Records. Their single "Fascination" was a major hit in Denmark during the summer of 2007 and a significant hit in the United Kingdom in 2008. Follow-up single "10.000 Nights of Thunder" (or just "10,000 Nights" in the UK) saw equal acclaim, and their eponymous debut album reached number two in Denmark and number ten in the UK. It has sold over 100,000 copies and their three top twenty singles have sold of 400,000 altogether in the region

 

2006–2008: Alphabeat

Alphabeat is made up of six members: Anders SG, Stine Bramsen, Anders B., Rasmus Nagel, Anders Reinholdt and Troels Hansen. Their sound is mainly retro 1980s melodic pop, taking inspiration from British bands Deacon Blue and Prefab Sprout, amongst others, with distinctive overlays of male and female harmonies. The band was previously named Sodastar, but this was changed to avoid confusion with a German band.[2]

 

Their self-titled debut album, Alphabeat, was released in Denmark on 5 March 2007, peaking at number two on the Danish Albums Chart and reaching platinum status in five months of release. The band's success in their domestic market attracted the attention of several major labels from larger markets abroad and Alphabeat was eventually signed to EMI's Charisma Records label in the United Kingdom. Their debut UK single, "Fantastic 6", was released on 26 November 2007, followed by the international release of Alphabeat, retitled This Is Alphabeat, the following year. It peaked at number ten on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry on 10 October 2008.

 

Alphabeat received several positive reviews in major British publications such as the NME, The Observer, Digital Spy and Popjustice.

 

On 20 December 2008, it was announced via press release that the band had been dropped by their UK label Charisma Records. In a statement from the band on 19 January 2009, it was confirmed that they had chosen to leave the label after being given the opportunity

Scissor Sisters is an American pop and rock band whose musical style draws from disco, glam rock and the New York City club scene. Formed in 2001, the group consists of vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy, lead guitar/bassist, Del Marquis, and drummer Randy Real who replaced former drummer Paddy Boom. "Spawned by the scuzzy, gay nightlife scene of New York", they took their name from a sexual position between two women also known as tribadism.

 

The group rose to public attention with the release of their self-titled debut album in 2004, from which they gained chart success in Australia, Canada and parts of Europe – particularly their "spiritual home", the United Kingdom, where Scissor Sisters was the best-selling album of that year – although not their native United States. Several singles from the album were also successes, including "Comfortably Numb", "Laura" and "Take Your Mama". They followed this with their second album, Ta-Dah, in 2006, which again proved to be a commercial and critical success, with singles including "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" and "Land of a Thousand Words". Stereophonics are a Welsh rock band that formed in 1992 in Cwmaman, Wales. The band currently comprises lead vocalist and guitarist Kelly Jones, bassist and backing vocalist Richard Jones, drummer Javier Weyler, guitarist and backing vocalist, Adam Zindani and touring member Tony Kirkham (keyboards), the group having originally also included the late Stuart Cable on drums. Stereophonics have released seven studio albums, five of which have topped the UK Albums Chart. Their seventh, Keep Calm and Carry On, was released in November 2009 but did not make the Top 10. A successful compilation album was also released in November 2008 – Decade in the Sun charting at number two in the United Kingdom. The band is part of the Cardiff music scene.

 

Described as "classic UK rock delivered with whiskey vocals,"the band have been summarised as possessing a sound akin to the genres of alternative rock and "British traditional rock." N-Dubz are a British hip hop group from London, based around Camden Town. They were previously signed to Polydor Records before joining All Around the World Records. They have had eight top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart, the most successful being "I Need You", which charted at number five.

 

Their debut album Uncle B was released on 17 November 2008 and debuted at number eleven on the UK Albums Chart. It was announced via their official MySpace and various websites that it has since been certified platinum for shipments of over 300,000 in the UK. Their second album Against All Odds was released on 16 November 2009, which debuted at number 6 in the UK. It went platinum within approximately two months of release.

 

The group filmed a 6 part documentary, "Being... N-Dubz". The series is sponsored by Adidas Originals and premiered on 21 June 2010 on 4Music.

 

After speculation, it was confirmed that US label Def Jam signed the group and the first release will combine material taken from Uncle B and Against All Odds and brand new songs.The 4 new songs from the compilation will be released only as singles in the UK in the summer.

 

On 1 September 2010 N-Dubz announced via Facebook that their new single that had the video shot in France will be called "Best Behaviour" and will be released on 3 October 2010.They later pushed the date back to October 17. The music video premiered Channel AKA and Clubland TV on September 8 and was uploaded on YouTube by AATW Records later that day
