Austin auditioned for X Factor Series 5. Before auditioning he had made appearances in a 2000 movie Snatch and a number of TV shows such as The Bill and Casualty. He was also in a boyband called 5Boyz, who supported Girls Aloud and Blazin Squad. In 2006 he won a place in E4's Gender Swap Reality Show alongside Marvin Humes from JLS. In the show he was eliminated in Week 4 after being up against Rachel Hylton. He has since appeared on many TV programmes and turned on Christmas lights.

Rachel and Austin were both brilliant, I was actually watching Austin videos yesterday, how he didn't get top 5 is beyond me..
Rachel was one of the best contestants ever!!!!!!!!!!! She should of won that year! I also find her attractive

Loved Rachel I do not think she could have won, she seemed to have too many songs that did not fit her voice but great voice all the same. Her Feeling Good remains one of my favs.

Rachel Adedeji auditioned for the fifth series of X Factor in 2008 where she was eliminated at bootcamp after reaching the final 50. She then reauditioned in 2009 for Series, however found herself in the bottom two alongside girl group Kandy Rain after just the first live show, but was saved. She was again in the bottom two after the second live show, facing Rikki Loney and again she was saved by the judges with only Cheryl Cole voting against her. In a change of fortunes, Adedeji safely progressed from week three to week four, on this occasion actually receiving the highest number of votes, but in week four she fell back into the bottom two, against Lloyd Daniels; after the judges votes once again resulted in deadlock, Adedeji was eliminated by public vote.

I didn't think Rachel A was all that good tbh

Brenda Edwards appeared on the 2nd series of X Factor and finished in 4th place. During The X Factor, Edwards was in the Over 25s category alongside Andy Abraham, Chico Slimani and Maria Lawson. Performances of "I'm Outta Love" and "I'll Never Love This Way Again" won her a place in the semi-finals, where she was eventually voted out. After the show, she was invited to play the part of Mama Morton in the West End Musical Chicago. In 2007 she also appeared as Pearl in a production of Carmen Jones at the Royal Festival Hall. That same year, Edwards won the Favourite Reality Star award at the 2007 Screen Nation awards. On 21 June 2010 she started her role as Killer Queen in the West End production of We Will Rock You replacing Mazz Murray who is on Maternity leave , Brenda took 2 weeks off to appear in another Westend musical but she has now returned. Edwards has recorded her first single and is in the process of recording the rest of her album in Geneva. In 2010 Edwards announced she would release her debut album in 2011. The first single from the album is titled 'You Know How To Love Me', it received its radio premiere on Radio 2.

Poor Rachel Adedeji, she was actually my favourite of that year by some margin. I rather loved most of her peformances, and my cold wicked heart even gave her some sympathy when she was eliminated having been forced to adapt some Stacey-esque false personality to say in the week before only to be eliminated against tesspit useless hotie Lloyd.

Brenda was rather marvellous aswell, and was my S2 favourite after Maria Lawason got the boot.

Agree with others, I'm struggling to remember of few of these - how you lot still remember these 7th/8th place wonders from 2005/2006/2007 is awe inspiring. :D

Anyways, I hate Jedward with a serious passion but you can't deny just how much of an impact they had on last years The X Factor.

If there's another of these in a couple of years time, we'll probably see the likes of TreyC, Belle Amie, Aiden and Nicolo making the top 20 whilst the majority of us are baffled and thinking "who?". :D

Joe auditioned for The X Factor in 2007, but it wasn't shown because he felt he was too young compared to the other contestants and opted to walk away. He auditioned again in 2009 in Manchester and sang Luther Vandross's "Dance with My Father". He made it through to the live finals and was announced the winner on 13 December 2009, beating runner up Olly Murs. McElderry's prize, as winner, was a recording contract with Simon Cowell's Syco record label, whose parent company is Sony Music Entertainment. The contract has a stated value of £1 million, of which £150,000 is a cash advance and the remainder allocated to recording and marketing costs. The single "The Climb" was released as McElderry's debut single.

"The Climb" was a contender for 2009's UK Christmas number one, competing against, and losing to, Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name". McElderry's single sold 450,000 compared to Rage Against the Machine's 502,000 after a Facebook-based campaign was started in protest of The X Factor's dominance of the Christmas number one title. This was the first time since 2004 that the X Factor winning single was denied the top spot for Christmas in the UK Singles Charts. "The Climb" was nominated in the British Single category at the 2010 BRIT Awards but lost out to fellow X Factor contestants JLS.

Joe and seven other finalists appeared on the X Factor tour where he performed the songs "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", "Love Story", "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word", "She's Out of My Life", "Don't Stop Believin'" and his debut single "The Climb" on the tour. In March earlier this year, it was reported that McElderry had signed a modelling deal with Next Models.

Throughout 2010, McElderry recorded his debut album Wide Awake and producers of the album include Dallas Austin and John Shanks. His 2nd single "Ambitions" was a cover of Norwegian band Donkeyboy and was released in September. "Someone Wake Me Up" will be the third single of the album. McElderry was approached by Twentieth Century Fox to record the specially written track, "There’s A Place For Us", written by American songstress Carrie Underwood, which will feature in the soundtrack to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. "Someone Wake Me Up" will also appear in the film.

Rachel was really dull - average singer, but it really grated after she tried to act like Stacey, it was just totally fake- I was very glad to see the back of her early even if it was against Lloyd

Brenda's series I didnt watch- but my parents liked her

and Joe was good, bless him- but at the same time was very boring and really shouldnt have won over Olly

Oh bless Joe, there are just so many pictures of him where he just looks like an 11 year old. I liked him during the contest definatly, a deserved winner I'm not sure since well, you could tell at the time musical theatre was where he really belonged and that seeing flop before being shoved in that direction was just going to painful. Which it is.

His album was very strong though, so I suppose we got something out of it. Not sure if I agree with the whole 'he was dull and therefore Olly should have won' opinion though. I definatly remember thinking at the time how uninteresting I found Olly to watch.

JLS are a group consisting of Aston, JB, Oritse and Marvin, who were runners up on X Factor Series 5 in 2008. They were originally called UFO and formed the group in 2006 and soon after won an award for "Best Unsigned Act" at the 2007 Urban Music Awards. After the show they were signed to Epic Records and have since then released 5 singles and 2 albums. Due to the success of their album which has now sold 1.2 million copies in the UK alone, the group went on their first headline tour, with twenty-five dates around the UK and Ireland. The group also became the first X Factor contestants to win a BRIT Award in 2010, winning the British Breakthrough and Best British Single for "Beat Again". They are now preparing for a 40 date arena tour, which begins on 29th November in Aberdeen.
