Yeah, Medina's album is really strong, but a little samey in parts. The acoustic version of You And I is divine though!

 

01 - Yeah, two really superb singles! Definitely the best tracks on the album for me also.

02 - Yeah, this is really good, but you might find it a bit MOR. Bit of a typical electro-pop/rock song, she seems to be huge in Germany :o

03 - :lol:, it is a little tacky, but it reminds me of Not That Kinda Girl which I also loved!

07 - I wouldn't be surprised to see it there :lol: . It's basically like a more poppy version of Medina.

30 - It's got a strong chorus, but is very much the sound of 2008 imo. Pretty nice though, and they've got more talent than anything on the X Factor this year!

34 - Yeah it is nice, but hasn't quite got the hook P&P's song has

49 - It isn't great, in fact none of her singles this year have been as good as the 2007/08 ones. I listened to both Body Part's last week, and I seem to recall liking the first part more which was a surprise! :o

 

Yeah about 7 of the songs on the chart are from The Countdown. It might be worth checking out Ivi Adamou's Sose Me which is a bit like a Jordin Sparks ballad and also Full Of Love by Raiz which sounds a bit like Vincent's singles.

Wow, good going for Kylie. Is definitely looking set to go top 10 in my chart - possibly top 5 but only time will tell. 'Get Outta My Way' is a great choice of single and having heard clips of the album on iTunes is one of the better tracks (although you often can't judge a song on 30 seconds).

Oooh, my dad's fave popstar of the 80s!!! :lol: Not heard this but will check this out. I do like some of Kim's big UK hits from the 80s like 'Kids In America', 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' and 'You Came'. Fact; I bought 'If I Can't Have You' on cassette single in 1993. :lol: :blush: Was gutted at the time when it failed to go top 10. :(

This continues to grow on me - the track can also qualify for my personal chart (now that's become a hit in its own right in the Hitstastic European Top 30). So expect to see this charting in the next few weeks.

I assume this is the first time you're charting 'A Punk'? It's a great track that made #6 in my personal chart back in 2008.

 

30 (**) Pepper & Piano ~ You Took My Heart ~ 1 [30]

 

I honestly thought Pepper & Piano would've made the Must Be The Music final. I missed their first performance but still convinced myself they'd get through to the final 3 but alas it wasn't to be. Watching it back on YouTube, it wasn't a strong performance badly let down by the girl on piano providing some ho-hum backing vocals. Should've just let the Adele/Leona singer do all the singing - that's what makes 'You Took My Heart' sound wonderful. The chorus itself is so catchy I wouldn't blame people for thinking it was a cover version.

 

34 (**) Emma's Imagination ~ This Day ~ 1 [34]

 

Another track benefitting from Must Be The Music. Initially this song didn't grab my attention in the same way 'YTMH' did. However after watching the final and only liking Emma's Imagination from the final 3 acts, I was rooting for Emma all the way (and she won. Woop!!! :D ). So despite plummeting 22-38 in my chart last week you can now expect a bizarre chart run for this as it looks set to go top 20 for me. :lol:

 

49 (**) Robyn ~ Hang With Me ~ 1 [49]

 

My fave Robyn single since 'Who's That Girl' in 2008 although Robyn did make #4 in my chart as guest vocalist of I Blame Coco's 'Caesar' earlier this year. This track is my current #2.

 

OT; Did Momus 'The Hairstyle Of The Devil' make your top 60? I know it's from 1989 which might've put you off wanting to chart an old track.

I assume this is the first time you're charting 'A Punk'? It's a great track that made #6 in my personal chart back in 2008.

 

30 (**) Pepper & Piano ~ You Took My Heart ~ 1 [30]

 

I honestly thought Pepper & Piano would've made the Must Be The Music final. I missed their first performance but still convinced myself they'd get through to the final 3 but alas it wasn't to be. Watching it back on YouTube, it wasn't a strong performance badly let down by the girl on piano providing some ho-hum backing vocals. Should've just let the Adele/Leona singer do all the singing - that's what makes 'You Took My Heart' sound wonderful. The chorus itself is so catchy I wouldn't blame people for thinking it was a cover version.

 

34 (**) Emma's Imagination ~ This Day ~ 1 [34]

 

Another track benefitting from Must Be The Music. Initially this song didn't grab my attention in the same way 'YTMH' did. However after watching the final and only liking Emma's Imagination from the final 3 acts, I was rooting for Emma all the way (and she won. Woop!!! :D ). So despite plummeting 22-38 in my chart last week you can now expect a bizarre chart run for this as it looks set to go top 20 for me. :lol:

 

49 (**) Robyn ~ Hang With Me ~ 1 [49]

 

My fave Robyn single since 'Who's That Girl' in 2008 although Robyn did make #4 in my chart as guest vocalist of I Blame Coco's 'Caesar' earlier this year. This track is my current #2.

 

OT; Did Momus 'The Hairstyle Of The Devil' make your top 60? I know it's from 1989 which might've put you off wanting to chart an old track.

She still seems to be doing pretty well in Germany. Germany seem to love our more floptastic artists - Kim, Hurts, Amy Macdonald, Melanie C :lol:

Does this mean 'GOMW' is likely to have a better run in your chart than 'All The Lovers'? There's no denying 'Fever' was one of Kylie's strongest eras and this era is definitely her best since then.

It's weird how Germany show loyalty to any British act who still continue to release music - years after their initial hayday. Even Robbie Williams is more popular in Germany (well, central Europe to be honest) compared to the UK. I can see acts like Hurts, Amy Macdonald and even Mika still continuing to release music over the next 10 years but will probably just focus on mainland Europe. They may end up not even bothering to release music in that fickle world that we call UK.

This isn't a new rule. :lol: It's just that back in the days of Cool Clarity, my chart was very much based around the release schedule. There were probably some tracks that made the HET30 in 2004 that I loved but didn't chart them because they weren' getting a UK release. The change came in 2005 when I started to chart the odd HET30 hit in my own chart - iirc, 'La Tortura' by Shakira was the first hit in my chart without ever getting a UK release. It's just in the last 3 years the amount of European hits in my chart has increased. Moreso than ever in 2010. :lol:

 

30 - I haven't seen the final yet, it's on my Sky+. I agree there, I thought it was a Pink cover first time I heard it - I know Pink has a song called Nobody Knows and I'm not that familiar with the pink track hence I thought they were the same song.

 

I was already familiar with 'Nobody Knows' by Pink so I knew it was a different song altogether but the styles of the two songs are similar. I'll be interested to see how these artists progress now that Must Be The Music has finished...

:( There's just something I really like about 'Hang With Me'. I thought 'Dancing On My Own' was good but underwhelming. As least 'HWM' manahed to make the top 75. The way it was struggling to get anywhere on iTunes, I was expecting the track to peak around #100.

MoBA were very close to making my top 10 but Stars ended up getting my 10th place. Like last time, I'm likely to chart my top 3 faves (because I'll be ridiculed if I chart Thalia!!! :no: ) so for me it'll be Kent, Band Of Skulls and Aloe Blacc looking set to score hits in my chart. Oddly despite Kent getting my 15 points, I find myself listening more to Band Of Skulls and Aloe Blacc more.

01 - I'm not sure, it depends on whether I get bored of it quickly or not. At the moment, it looks like it will.

02 - Completely agree, the only upside is that Amy Macdonald and Hurts might consider entering Eurovision for us at some point. I know Hurts were interested in entering this year :o

30 & 34 - They probably won't go anywhere fast :lol: . I hope they do as I quite like the concept of the show, but I can't see Emma having much success after this week.

 

My votes in contests like UP also sometimes don't match my chart positions and listening habbits, so I completely understand why you're listening to Band Of Skulls and Aloe Blacc more than Kent.

Yeah, Medina's album is really strong, but a little samey in parts. The acoustic version of You And I is divine though!

 

01 - Yeah, two really superb singles! Definitely the best tracks on the album for me also.

02 - Yeah, this is really good, but you might find it a bit MOR. Bit of a typical electro-pop/rock song, she seems to be huge in Germany :o

03 - :lol:, it is a little tacky, but it reminds me of Not That Kinda Girl which I also loved!

07 - I wouldn't be surprised to see it there :lol: . It's basically like a more poppy version of Medina.

30 - It's got a strong chorus, but is very much the sound of 2008 imo. Pretty nice though, and they've got more talent than anything on the X Factor this year!

34 - Yeah it is nice, but hasn't quite got the hook P&P's song has

49 - It isn't great, in fact none of her singles this year have been as good as the 2007/08 ones. I listened to both Body Part's last week, and I seem to recall liking the first part more which was a surprise! :o

 

Yeah about 7 of the songs on the chart are from The Countdown. It might be worth checking out Ivi Adamou's Sose Me which is a bit like a Jordin Sparks ballad and also Full Of Love by Raiz which sounds a bit like Vincent's singles.

Thanks! :heehee: Yeah not to bad, managed to get a job already, in Sainsbury's, so I shouldn't go into debt just yet :lol: The town itself is quite plain looking but I've already done a few drives and had an explore, it's very nice up here. Me and my housemates are hoping to arrange a trip to a Coastal town before it gets cold. Perhaps Prestatyn? It's only 50 minutes from here on the train apparently...

03 - I loved it! Shame it never got picked up for a major release!

49 - I think so :lol: . I loved the first track and the Swedish song, aswell as the single. The second album didn't have much that jumped out at me :(

 

Oh well done! You got that job pretty quickly! How are you finding it? Yeah East-North Wales is a little plain, Llangollen is quite nice though iirc. I'm not a huge fan of the coastal towns in the North. Prestatyn or Llandudno would probably be the best to go to though. Rhyl isn't great :lol: .

1. :lol: It's one of the less electro, more poppy sounding songs on the album. I would say it sounds like a Nerina Pallot song but that's no surprise considering she wrote it!

2. Ah ok, I'll persist with it.

3. I'm not sure it would have done anything to be honest, it's catchy but Scandipop is so criminally ignored here :( Although Kim was Dutch so it was only half-Scandi!

49. Ah right, I didn't care at all for the Swedish song, definitely my least favourite song on Pt. 1. The first track was my 2nd least favourite :heehee: I liked everything else on there!

 

Thanks, indeed, I was pretty lucky as it was the first one I applied for - I'm just doing the induction at the moment, and then checkout training next week, and I believe I start in two weeks :D Ah right, thanks I'll take those comments onboard, it was between Prestatyn and Rhyl so I'll make sure we avoid the latter :heehee: We just need somewhere that we can go for a day basically, at a small-ish cost.
