Snow Patrol go dance?

Snow Patrol are recording a dance music influenced album.

The Northern Irish indie band are about to start work on their sixth album and keyboardist Tom Simpson said he sees the band moving away from their established, guitar led, roots with the record.

Tom told website spinnermusic.co.uk: "Well, I don't know about techno but certainly it'll have an element of electronica about it.

"I've been buying some really interesting equipment which I hope will get used on the new record. There will be a heavy dose of electronica."

The band's singer Gary Lightbody has previously said he wants the band - whose 2006 effort 'Eyes Open' became the biggest selling album in the UK of that year - to make it into the top tier of most successful UK bands around today, with their next album.

He said: "I see U2 in a class of their own, Coldplay in the next tier down and us and a ton of bands in the tier below them.

"I don't see Oasis as equals, for example. We need 10 or 15 more songs in the national consciousness for that to happen."

Snow Patrol - which also includes Gary Lightbody, Jonny Quinn, Nathan Connolly and Paul Wilson - have previously said they want to release their next album sometime 2011.

This could be very interesting, but i wonder what they define as dance, in a way just say yes has a dance feel to it and had it been recorded by another artist could have been really sped up. I think going from just say yes i can see where this new material could go and im looking forward to hearing it.

Must say im still surprised by how well the greatest hits has done and its still around the top 100, its sales must be near 800,000 now so with that doing well it bodes well for the new album.

Not toally surprising - Just Say Yeshinted that they were going to be heading down a more electronic/pop route.

But as Aphrodite says, people often have very different definitions of 'dance', so I'm not expecting Snow Patrol to go all Ibiza anthem on us.

ibiza they wont do and if they did i would be floored with shock, I would love an album in line with just say yes, just say yes sound has potential to go in a few directions so i think this new album will be very interesting. We prob have about 2 years to wait for it though!!
