October 3, 201014 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?tod...3800&pages= Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles Rihanna maintains her No.1 debut from last week by spending a second week at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with “Only Girl (in the World)” (DL: 1 hold). In the ranking of ‘Most Weeks Accumulated at No.1’, she now moves from 21st to 18th on the list, as she has now racked up twenty-eight weeks at No.1 from her six chart-topping appearances, that places her between Olivia Newton-John at No.19 (28 weeks from five No.1’s) and The Black Eyed Peas at No.17 (28 weeks from seven No.1’s), whilst her next target will be Kylie Minogue who has racked up thirty-one weeks in total. The former No.1 for Taio Cruz retains his No.2 position with “Dynamite” (DL: 2 to 3), helped possibly by the X-Factor opening song done by the Top 11 last Sunday night. Moving up to a new peak of No.3 is Bruno Mars and “Just the Way You Are” (DL: 3 to 2), which gives him his second No.3 single, as “Nothin’ on You” made it to that position back on the May 10th chart. After two weeks at No.11, B.o.B. and River Cuomo jump up six places to land at No.5 with “Magic” (DL: 11 to 4), now giving B.o.B. his third Top 5 single after the aforementioned “Nothin’ on You” (TW-96) there was also “Airplanes” (TW-38) with Hayley Williams which sat at No.2 for six weeks. After three weeks at No.3, Usher and Pitbull are down three places to No.6 with “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” (DL: 5 to 7), which also pushes down Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” (DL: 4 to 5) three places to No.7 this week. Down one place each are Mike Posner to No.8 with his debut single “Cooler Than Me” (DL: 6 hold), and Cee-Lo Green to No.9 with “F.U.” (DL: 9 hold), whilst the former six-week No.1 single for Eminem and Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” (DL: 7 to 8) is the biggest falling track within the Top 10, it’s down four places to No.10. Short Stack makes an impressive debut at No.4 with their new single “Planets” (DL: 15 debut, Phys: 43 to 1). It’s the Aussie groups fifth charting single, and third to make it to the Top 10 thanks in part to their huge internet fan base, who are rabid to buy their product first week, which usually means they have a big drop in their second week. Below is a table of their first and second week chart positions… Entry Date Titles EP Wk2 06-Oct-08 Shimmy A Go Go 31 65 09-Mar-09 Princess 11 38 27-Jul-09 Sway, Sway Baby! 2 27 21-Dec-09 Sweet December 8 21 04-Oct-10 Planets 4 ?? NEW PEAKS: The Potbelleez score a Top 20 entry this week with their current single “Hello” (DL: 30 to 21), which is up seven places to No.19, whilst another local dance act, Zoe Badwi, is up six places to No.23 with her single “Freefallin” (DL: 27 to 20). Two more Australian acts score new peaks from their appearance last Monday night on X-Factor, with Scarlett Belle jumping ten places to No.37 with their second single “Freak Tonight” (DL: 46 to 37), and also up ten places to No.39 are Justice Crew and their debut single “And Then We Dance” (Phys: 10 to 7), and mention must go to the other track that benefits from an X-Factor performance, “Little Lion Man” from Mumford & Sons was performed by two of the contestants on the show and re-enters the Top 100 this week at No.48. There are three more peaks in the Top 50, but they are all Glee tracks, so I’ll mention those in the Glee Report down below. “Barbra Streisand” (DL: 14 debut) scores the second biggest new entry of the week coming in at No.12. I’m talking about the song by New York duo Duck Sauce, who consist of Armand Van Helden and A-Trak, whose new dance track samples the Boney M single “Gotta Go Home” (HP-44, Oct 1979) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EjLWh2150I , which when you listen to it is a direct sample of the track with a guy saying ‘Barbra Streisand” over the loop. This is the duo’s second charting single, but first Top 50 entry, as they hit No.56 last November with “aNYway” (the NY is for their hometown of New York). Glee Report: The three Top 50 debuts from last week all move up the charts this week, with “Empire State of Mind” (DL: 39 to 18) jumping twenty places to No.20, pushing the original down seven places to No.32. “Telephone” (DL: 44 to 29) is up fifteen places to No.30, whilst the original is up sixteen places to No.52. And the gangs version of “Billionaire” (DL: 49 to 34) is up sixteen places to No.34, helping the original version by Travie McCoy to rebound five places to No.22. This past weeks episode was the Britney Spears edition (mostly all Britney songs), and from that episode three songs enter the Top 100, firstly at No.53 is their rendition of “Toxic” (HP-1, March 2004), and their second Britney song enters at No.93, “Me Against the Music” (HP-1, November 2003). The third song from this past weeks episode is a version of Paramore’s “The Only Exception” (DL: re-entry at 40) which enters at No.60, helping the original by Paramore to climb back up fourteen places to No.40 this week. The troupe’s seventh Top 100 single of the week is “Listen”, which climbs four places to a new peak of No.87. Below Top 50: With Glee’s “Listen” climbing to a new peak, there are two more tracks that are to new heights, the first climbs twenty places to No.72, and belongs to Swedish DJ Adrian Lux with his track “Teenage Crime”. Enrique Iglesias and Nicole Scherzinger score third lower peak, as his new single “Heartbeat” is up seven places to No.88. James Blunt is set to release his third album in early November entitled “Some Kind of Trouble”, and the lead single from the new album, “Stay the Night”, debuts at No.56 this week. It becomes his sixth charting single here, the last being September 2007’s “1973” (HP-11). And another Englishman who is landing his fifth charting ARIA Single is Mark Ronson, who debuts at No.66 with “The Bike Song”, taken from his new album “Record Collection” which is the highest new album entry this week. Adam Lambert takes the lead track from his album “For Your Entertainment” into the Top 100 at No.69 this week, which gives him three singles inside the Top 70 this week, as his first single “Whataya Want From Me” is at No.61, and his second single “If I Had You” is at No.25, both tracks having previously peaked at No.4, can Adam do it for a third time. He will be helped up the charts by his upcoming November national tour, and his album has just been repackaged and is up seven places to No.23 this week. Kasey Chambers stays at No.3 on the album charts with her sixth album “Little Bird”, from which the title track debuts at No.82 this week. “Little Bird” is Kasey’s fourteenth singles chart entry and her first since her last album’s title track “Rattlin’ Bones” hit No.55 in December of 2008. English duo The Ting Tings are set to release their second album “Kunst” (‘Art’ in German) by the end of the year, and the first taste from that new album debuts at No.83 entitled “Hands”. It’s their fourth chart entry in Australia, having charted in 2008 with the three singles “Great DJ” (HP-52, entered in June), “That’s Not My Name” (No.8, peaked in September) and “Shut Up and Let Me Go” (HP-44, entered in November). Teen sensation Selena Gomez & The Scene debut at No.100 with their new track “A Year Without Rain”, their third entry for the year, having charted in January with “Naturally” (HP-46) and August with “Round and Round” (HP-80). This new single is the title track from their second album which debuts at No.46 this week, and this song is currently Top 30 in Canada and Top 40 in the USA. And once again, Lady GaGa falls out of the Top 100, racking up 103 weeks with her track “Poker Face”, which amassed 103 weeks in the Top 100 (one week shy of 2 years), so the throne for longest current charting single goes back to Beyonce’s “Singles Ladies” which is spending it’s 97th week in the charts at No.90 this week, whilst third placed longest-runner “Hot N’ Cold” by Katy Perry re-enters at No.89 in it’s 78th week in the charts. Plus the Tame Impala EP is spending it’s 103rd week inside the Top 50 physical chart. Albums Linkin Park stay atop the ARIA Albums Chart for a third week with their “A Thousand Suns” album, and in fact the entire Top 5 albums stay put this week, with Katy Perry spending a third week at No.2 with “Teenage Dream”, Kasey Chambers and Santana spend a second week after their debut their last week at No.3 and No.5 with “Little Bird” and “Guitar Heaven” respectively, and Eminem is at No.4 again this week with his "Recovery” album. Mark Ronson’s third album “Record Collection” debuts at No.6, and is not only the highest new entry of the week, but his first album to chart here in Australia. His first album “Here Comes the Fuzz” (2003) and second set “Version” (2007) both failed to chart here, but his new set is helped by the two “Bang Bang Bang” (HP-16, drops out this week) and his new one “The Bike Song” (debut No.66 this week). The rest of the Top 10 albums sees Bird of Tokyo take their self-titled album up three places to No.7, whilst The Script spend a third week in the Top 10 by dropping two places to No.8 with “Science & Faith”. Phil Collins too holds his debut position from last week, his “Going Back” album at No.9 again, and Angus & Julia Stone climb back up three places to land at No.10 with “Down the Way”. Movers & Peakers: Metallica climb five places to No.12 with their eight track live compilation for Australian fans entitled “Six Feet Down Under”, and 30 Seconds to Mars are up three places to a new peak of No.18 with “This is War”. Adam Lambert’s new repackaged tour edition version of “For Your Entertainment” is up seven places to No.23, and helped by a great X-Factor performance and a Top 50 re-entry for “Little Lion Man”, Mumford & Sons’ album “Sigh No More” rebounds sixteen places to No.26 this week. Soundgarden debut at No.20 with the career-spanning compilation album “Telephantasm”, which also features the recent new single “Black Rain” (HP-90, August 2010). It’s the groups third compilation set, and the album was packaged along with the new game “Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock” in some territories.
