Posted October 4, 201014 yr I am sorry to not have been on here for several weeks, have not been able to get on have been blocked each time and it has been very frustrating, have had to change my password etc etc. Anyway found this - hope I have the right year for it. October 3, 2010 Portrait of My Love: A Matt Monro Tribute. Friday Night is Music Night On: BBC Radio Two (0102) Date: Friday 8th October 2010 Time: 20:00 to 22:00 Live from London's Mermaid Theatre, Portrait of My Love: A Matt Monro Tribute. Matt Monro would have been 80 this year and it is also the 50th anniversary of the release of Portrait of My Love. To celebrate, Darius Campbell, Ryan Malloy, Graham Bickley and Stephen Triffit sing some of his hits, including Born Free, Walk Away, Michelle and Softly As I Leave You. Richard Balcombe conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra and Paul Gambaccini hosts. Sorry to be solate posting this but have had p-roblems getting on line.
October 4, 201014 yr Thanks Preston, sorry you've had so much trouble. I would love to listen to that. Sue
October 4, 201014 yr Thanks, Preston. No one else had noticed. I don't think there are any tickets left. Well done, I'll look forward to hearing that. Hope you're back now.
October 4, 201014 yr Thanks Preston. I'm so glad you noticed that. I assume that it's Ryan Molloy from the Jersey Boys and not Ryan Malloy the character from Eastenders, because Graham Bickley is a West End star and Stephen Triffit was Frank Sinatra in the Rat Pack. They're all quality singers and that definitely includes Darius. I'm sure they'll do Matt and his music justice.
October 4, 201014 yr how fantastic - oh if only Darius was to sing Born Free..its one of my all time favourite songs, and never ceases to bring a lump to my throat - recalling the lions story as a child
October 4, 201014 yr I wish it were on TV. Explains what he was doing at Radio 2. Edited October 4, 201014 yr by megham
October 4, 201014 yr He's a decent singer in his own right. I'd like to hear Darius sing Walk Away. I think he's got a similar warmth in his voice and he could really express the emotion of the song.
October 4, 201014 yr Not a huge Matt Monroe fan - Mum loved him though. Edited October 4, 201014 yr by megham
October 4, 201014 yr This is live on 8th October. Is Darius then going on to the PinkIce Ball or has he dropped out of that?
October 4, 201014 yr Author I do like matt monroes voice, dates me I know but I can tell it anytime he is on, his voice is to me distinctive.
October 4, 201014 yr Very distinctive indeed. I'm glad there is a tribute but sad it's been so poorly publicised. There have been mentions all over the place on the net about the Beatles' tribute but if you hadn't posted that information, I wouldn't have known anything about it at all. Darius's voice is noticeably deeper but he has a similar warmth of tone and smoothness, I think.
October 5, 201014 yr Thanks Preston, I must try to listen. Have you pm'd the admin on the site about your problems getting on?
October 5, 201014 yr I think the Pinkice ball goes on far later and is within easy reach of the Mermaid Theatre. It's the kind of thing he has doubled up in the past.
