I'm looking forward to singing on the Matt Monro Tribute on BBC Radio Two this Friday evening 8th Oct, some great songs.

from darius twitter

I have manage to find out this about it :

Join Radio 2 live from London's Mermaid Theatre for Portrait of My Love: A Matt Monro Tribute. Matt Monro, the singer's singer, would have been 80 this year. It's also the 50th anniversary of the release of Portrait of My Love. Darius Campbell, Andrew Halliday, Graham Bickley, Stephen Triffit and Matt Monro Jnr with Matt Monro's original MD Colin Keyes remind us of the genius of Matt with songs everybody loves - Born Free, Walk Away, Michelle and Softly As I Leave You to name just a few. Richard Balcombe conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra and Paul Gambaccini hosts the show.

Aww Cool I don't really check his facebook much tbh more on twitter x

I have already set the TV to record radio two friday !

hopefully we will remembr to listen too, as OH said it sounds as if it may be quite good.

oh wow - that last song, I need that on CD - Darius was fantastic - but musical theatre stylee from a couple? the jersy boy one - OH said Born free meets lion king! I would have loved D singing that, as for MM son? mm - I suppose they couldnt refuse
Darius has by far the richest tone of voice. Would have loved to hear him sing Yesterday.
urgh Impossible Dream should be Darius' song
I listened to the whole concert, thought Darius was amazing particularly like If you go away because it showed his range and would love that on cd. However was quite shocked at MM Junior who to me sounded off key a lot, off timing and stretching for the notes sometimes. It would have been great had it been on tv.
Did my usual and missed it  Will it be available online to listen to?
It showed just how good Darius' voice is. I loved 'If You Go Away' beautifully and emotionally sung. Fantastic. All 4 songs were great. If they put that tribute on a cd, I'd buy it - only listen to 4 songs but it'd be worth it.

I have Wendy to thank for telephoning me to remind me this was on!! I can't remember the last time I listened to Radio 2 but Neil and I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hours and I really found it quite interesting. I never realised half those songs were sung by Matt Monroe!! Darius was exceptional - his voice has a quality all his own.... I always knew he would one day get to sing a 'Bond theme'!!lol! He was really well received by the audience so hopefully they will all enquire about his tour dates. Paul Gambacini only said that Darius would be continuing his tour on Tuesday but didn't say where!! It was a shame he didn't list all the towns where Darius would be appearing but anything is better than nothing!! Certainly a job well done Darius

Got to If I Never Sing Another Song. Still not heard Ryan Molloy.

Darius is definitely the smoothest voiced of them all, although Stephen Triffett (Sinatra) is very good too. There hasn't been one song so far that Darius couldn't have sung as well or better.

It's a shame they didn't give Darius one up tempo number.

I would have liked to hear Darius sing Yesterday. In fact all of the songs,

I think the audience enjoyed all of the singers and songs and they gave Darius a very good reception each time.

It's good to hear direct comparison e.g the same song The Impossible Dream or just Darius singing directly before/after other good singers.

Singing Big Band regularly now, Darius would be expected to sing When I Fall In Love and Fly Me To The Moon well and he didn't disappoint.

If You Go Away was my favourite . It let him play with his range a bit and he sounded very convincing in Spanish too. I'm not sure whether Matt recorded it in Spanish or it was an insert in the song, as Darius sang it.

I don't even think he was at full stretch in From Russsia With Love but it was nice to hear what Darius might do with a power ballad.

Chip, chip,chip....................that's a few more people won't believe the rubbish about Darius being a talentless loser/reality TV reject, can't hold a note etc.

"Yesterday"? We've still got the Beatles' Tribute at the Albert Hall to go.

Trust me, I thought it was French. I get things wrong all the time. I really liked that song.

really enjoyed listening, Darius was exceptional -the frank sinatra was good - but was doing frank sinatra LOL the musical theatre take of the ohters just didnt work for me, it was lie listening to search for a joseph or something - very musical theatre. I would buy a CD too, just fro Darius.

if you go away wasso brilliant, thought it was spanish - as he has that proper soft back of the throat spanish accent off to a tee - so felt confused whenmeg mentioned french..LOL I thought how novel singig french with that prnounced spanish accent

That's just me - I'm useless at languages - even which is which. My daughter thinks I should learn Spanish - I'd be useless.

Agree with you PIP Sinatra guy was ok, but doesn't this just show how good D actually is in this genre. MMJ oh my lord :puke:

The boy done good :D
