Dutch national broadcaster NOS reported that he died early on Sunday while still on the plane that took him from Los Angeles to The Netherlands ahead of a show scheduled for Tuesday. Early indications point towards a heart attack as the cause of death. The Philadelphia-born 'King of Rock 'n' Soul' was famed in recent years for performing while sitting on a gold-coloured throne. During a 55-year career, he wrote such hits as 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love' and 'Cry to Me'. He was also a Grammy award winner and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Burke is said to be survived by 21 children, 90 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
October 11, 201014 yr Very sad news. RIP Another source says he has 88 grandchildren. Must be hard to be updated with those.. Well now he doesn't have to.
