Cee Lo Green still says FU to a #1 hit!

It seems that most are not forgetting Cee Lo Green as he gets a second week at the top with F**k You or Forget You. Recently it has become somewhat unusual for a single to get more than a week at #1, especially with the competition facing Cee Lo this week. The only competition I can see next week is from The Wanted or possibly a return for Bruno Mars, however the following week sees Cheryl Cole’s single release so a four week run is highly unlikely for this. It has stayed the UK’s best seller against the odds this week and has had very good sales indeed and is likely to be remembered in years to come.

Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand enters at #3

In at #3 as this week’s highest new entry is none other than Barbra Streisand! It’s not the singer songwriter and actress with hits such as Woman In Love and The Way We Were, actually Barbra Streisand is the title of the song. The artist behind it goes by the name of Duck Sauce, a collaboration between DJs Armand Van Helden and A-Trak. Last year, the duo scored a #22 hit with the club banger aNYway and now straight into the top 5 at #3 with another club hit Barbra Streisand. Incidentally both this and Just The Way You Are were performed by acts on the X-Factor, with the latter back up to #2.

Joe McElderry – Ambitions enters at #6

Similar to Robbie & Gary last week, the song that many expected to be #1 has fallen short in the end, actually missing top 5. In at #6 is the second single from last year’s X-Factor winner Joe McElderry, following a performance on the aforementioned TV show last Sunday. After famously losing out on xmas #1 with his winner’s single The Climb, he managed to climb a place for a week at the top. New single Ambitions is another cover, originally a #1 hit in Norway last year for Norwegian band Donkeyboy. Joe’s version was to be renamed Somebody, surely his Ambitions are to get a bigger hit than this!

Mike Posner – Cooler Than Me climbs to #9

US singer, songwriter and producer Mike Posner entered at #22 last week with his new single Cooler Than Me, following some TV exposure of the track. This week the track shoots up to #9, looking likely to be a very big hit with several weeks to go until the track’s full release and parent album 31 Minutes To Takeoff. I think takeoff may be happening now!

Pixie Lott – Broken Arrow enters at #12

Scoring her 6th successive UK top 20 hit is Victoria Louise Lott, better known as Pixie Lott with new single Broken Arrow. This is taken from a forthcoming re-release of her debut album entitled Turn It Up Louder, she’ll be hoping people do just that! Her debut single came last year with #1 hit Mama Do, followed by #1 Boys & Girls, #12 Cry Me Out, #20 Gravity and #11 peaking track Turn It Up. Pixie has written album tracks for Alexandra Burke and a free xmas download track for Girls Can't Catch. She has also been a guest judge on the X-Factor, covering for Dannii Minogue while she had her baby.

Michael Buble – Hollywood enters at #17

Canadian singer and songwriter Michael Buble returns to the singles chart this week with his sixth top 40 hit and second highest peak with Hollywood. Mr Bubble made his debut in 2003 with his self titled album followed by It’s Time, which spawned #31 hit Home. Then came Call Me Irresponsible, which got him 2 singles in the form of #38 peaking Everything and #19 Lost. Last year’s release Crazy Love got him #5 peaking Haven’t Met You Yet and #34 Cry Me A River, now from the forthcoming re-release of Crazy Love comes Hollywood in at #17.

Ting Tings – Hands enters at #29

Now for the return of the Ting Tings, who first came to light in 2008 with their #1 That’s Not My Name and debut album We Started Nothing. Well they did start something, as they also hit #6 with Shut Up & Let Me Go as well as smaller hits Great DJ, Be The One and We Walk. The band’s second album is due early next year, and from it comes a #29 debut for lead single Hands.

BoB feat Rivers Cuomo – Magic enters at #34

Rapper BoB pulls off a magic trick to enter the top 40 with his third single entitled Magic, featuring lead singer of Weezer Rivers Cuomo. This follows his 2 chart toppers from earlier this year, Nothin’ On You (feat Bruno Mars) and Airplanes (feat Hailey Williams), incidentally the latter track flies a bit higher this week by reclimbing to #25. Expect this to magically climb over the coming weeks I’d say!

Robbie Williams hits #1 with his second Greatest Hits album

Drifting In & Out Of Consciousness is Robbie Williams with his second hits compilation album, now his 11th album maintaining his 100% hit rate of top 2 albums. Entering at #3 is the Bold As Brass Sir Cliff Richard, with his new covers album which is his first new recording in 6 years and set to coincide with his 70th birthday celebrations. Debuting in the top 5 at #5 is Magnetic Man, hot on the heals of their 2 top 20 hits I Need Air and Perfect Stranger. Glasgow band Belle & Sebastian enter at #8 to equal their highest ever album chart placing with new album Write About Love, no prizes for guessing the subject matter of that album then! Metal group Alterbridge enter at #9 with their third album entitled AB III, following an extensive live tour. Other new entries include The Orb with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, Jason Donovan, Antony & The Johnsons and Sufjan Stevens.

My Opinion

I am pleased to see the mighty Cee Lo get a second week at the top of the charts, I also still love Just The Way You Are. I must be in the minority but I find the Duck Sauce song extremely boring, with the only lyric being Barbra Streisand. I even like Joe McElderry’s Ambitions better and it’s not brilliant – OK but could’ve been a lot better. One that is growing on me a lot now is Mike Posner’s Cooler Than Me, it is something a little different to what's around just now. I loved all of Pixie Lott's output so far including most of her album in fact, however Broken Arrow is a good song but certainly not her best. Whilst not a Michael Buble fan, I have liked most of his singles and Hollywood I think is very catchy and probably his best yet. The only song of the Ting Tings I've liked so far is Shut Up & Let Me Go, this new on Hands is ok and not as annoying as That's Not My Name. I haven't liked BoB's output so far and certainly don't rate the new song Magic, even the addition of Weezer's front man doesn't help a great deal. Still I'm glad to see Robbie at #1 with his new Greatest Hits album, he's done so many classic songs over his years as a solo artist.
