WTF??? A show like X Factor has the cheek to tag this seminal 80s track as a 'guilty pleasure', yet some Westlife-esq tosh would be deemed as perfectly acceptable?? Knob heads...

05.(22) Chaka Khan - I Feel For You Apparently this is a guilty pleasure according to the X-Factor - prats

Dunno what I was thinking last night when I posted - it was Ain't Nobody that was selected as a guilty pleasure. Still shows up X-Factor as a bunch of gits

I actually own a recording of the Radio 1 Top 40 show at the time, presented by Richard Skinner on 28 October 1984. As somebody who was there at the time, '84 was a very good year for the chart, although it is all about opinions.....

Feargal Sharkey's "Listen to your Father" was the first single released on Madness's Zarjazz label, and the TOTP performance featured most of the Nutty Boys:

(Sorry, there was a version without Wrighty's inane ramblings on YouTube until recently but it seems to have been removed )

A song that never features on any CD compilations either; our Feargal did other solo songs than "A Good Heart" you know.

OK, I was 7 and vaguely aware of these...mind you, years later I had a copy of Now 4 with a lot of these on it!

I'd happily listen to the following right now...

03. (5) Giorgio Moroder And Philip Oakey - Together In Electric Dreams

06. (3) Culture Club - The War Song

10. (7) The Style Council - Shout To The Top

14. (8) Ray Parker Jr - Ghostbusters

19.(13) U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love)

23.(NE) Status Quo - The Wanderer  :naughty:

24.(17) Sister Sledge - Lost In Music {1984 remix}

27.(16) UB40 - If It Happens Again - the best song they ever did!

40.(47) Limahl - Never Ending Story

49.(34) Big Country - East Of Eden

52.(58) Divine - I'm So Beautiful :teresa:

54.(42) Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - Tesla Girls

55.(52) Grandmaster Flash And Melle Mel - White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)

66.(46) Malcolm McLaren - Madam Butterfly (Un Bel Di Vedremo)

74.(77) Orange Juice - Lean Period

79.(NE) Farmers Boys - Phew Wow!

80.(83) The Staple Singers - Slippery People

83.(NE) Jim Diamond - I Should Have Known Better Ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai-ai!!!!!!!

89.(NE) Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday - Great record

93.(NE) Talking Heads - Slippery People

Dunno what I was thinking last night when I posted - it was Ain't Nobody that was selected as a guilty pleasure. Still shows up X-Factor as a bunch of gits

Even so, I was amazed by some of the songs they chose (I saw the brief clips on Sunday night before switching off in disgust). Who the hell thinks 'Whole Lotta Love' is a guilty pleasure? The only really off the wall one was the girl who did 'I Wanna Be Like You'. They should have all been forced to use their imagination...but that goes against the whole X-Factor ethos where exploitation and well-treaded ground is the order of the day.

some great songs in there, some pretty ok ones, too.

Worth mentioning is Adam Ant's 'Apollo Nine - not for being a fabulous single, but for having one of the best outros ever.

Favourite singles by Paul Young, a classic from Sisters of Mercy, the brilliant Strawberry Switchblade single (pure pop joy, that one), Depeche Mode bringing sado masochism to the charts, and some pop classics from Alison Moyet, Alphaville, Pointer Sisters and George Michael. All in all, bar the top 2, a very nice chart.

You mean, as in Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"? As in "Whole Lotta Love" with the fukkin legendary, instantly recognisable Jimmy Page guitar riff that was the signature tune of Top of the Pops for fukkin' YEARS which defined an entire generation of music lovers..... That "Whole Lotta Love"..?

X-Factor = Whole Lotta C'unts... But then, we already knew that....
