Posted October 26, 201014 yr You may have heard that there is a new campaign on Facebook that was launched on Sunday that is trying to get Kirsty McColl and The Pogue's Christmas song, Fairytale Of New York to be 2010's UK Christmas No.1 point being that the day before the charts are announced, it would have been 10 years since the tragic death of Kirsty McColl. :snif: I'm supporting it for that reason as well as the fact that one of the most popular Christmas song (this song) has never got to No.1 neither have Kirsty or The Pogues had one yet and also the fact that there hasn't been a Christmassy song as the Xmas No.1 single since 2004 with Band Aid!(not even sure that that song is much of a Christmas song) I didn't create the campaign by the way but I just discovered it today and it's already got half a thousand fans and has got some support over the Digitalspy forums. I think it's a good idea because this time it's not a campaign that's made just to stop the X Factor hogging the Xmas No.1, not a campaign trying to get a single by their favourite band to the Top.10 just so they can update their UK record or a campaign that's rivalling with a rival football team. This is a campaign to remember a great singer and a great song instead! What do you think of it? Are you supporting it? If you join, be sure to invite friends, share page and promote it! Here's a link to the page (it's in my sig as well!) Fairytale Of New York for Christmas No.1 2010!!! :) Edited October 26, 201014 yr by rors
October 26, 201014 yr Author Half a thousand? I know lol but it was launched 2 days ago and hasn't had much promotion yet:L That's kinda good I guess though
October 26, 201014 yr Author This is by far and away the worst campaign. POINT f***ING MISSED MUCH? I kinda said the points in the post
October 26, 201014 yr I kinda said the points in the post  But the whole point of campaigns to beat the X factor are songs AGAINST THE X FACTOR. Rage against the Machine = a protest song, Silence = people would rather listen to 4 minutes of silence than another karaoke cover. Wow, it's a christmas song, THAT DOESNT ENTITLE IT TO #1

Wow, it's a christmas song, THAT DOESNT ENTITLE IT TO #1 Oh right, I see your point and kind of agree but the whole point of the campaign isn't to beat X Factor to Christmas No.1 and it's about time that we have a Christmas No.1 that actually is a Christmas song KITM wasn't really an Xmas song nor were any of the X Factor winner's songs. Not all Xmas No.1 campaigns are against the X Factor this year, sure the winner's single will be a strong contender but that wasn't the point of this page. I'm also a supporter of the John Cage campaign and was a supporter of the RATM campaign as well Edited October 26, 201014 yr by rors

Wow, it's a christmas song, THAT DOESNT ENTITLE IT TO #1 There's not a lot of point in trying to get Fairytale Of New York to number one in July though is there? The whole point of this campaign - as far as I see it - is to get the song to number one, not to beat X-Factor per se. If the X-Factor song was released a week later, this campaign would go ahead with the same target date.
October 26, 201014 yr This is the sort of thing that these campaigns should be- getting a Christmas song there, so I would love this to be number 1, sadly, it wont work- although the song will still chart as it does every year
October 26, 201014 yr Author It looks like my post is a bit of a duplication as well  yeah that always happens with me as well  Anyway ppl, I know it might not work but still it would make her and her family and fans proud!
October 26, 201014 yr I think if anyone wants to back a hilarious anti Cowell campaign join the Wagner to Win Vote. The look on Cowells face if Wagner is the last man standing, he will have a heart attack on stage. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wagner-to-wi...160374787315033
October 26, 201014 yr :drama: Just imagine how funny the Christmas chart is going to look. #10 - one campaign, #9 - another, #8 - yet another one, ... #7 - #2 - six more, and #1... still the X-Factor winner, because all those anti-XF downloads will be spreaded.
October 26, 201014 yr I would rather this be number one than the other 'protest' songs, but they seem to be too many options now for anybody to be successful, why don't we all give up and download Agadoo for Xmas number one instead!
October 26, 201014 yr Great tribute but doesn't everyone own the song already? With all these campaigns and a better X Factor winner (Go Cher Lloyd!), I think Silence will be at number two, the bird song in the top five and X Factor at number one.

October 26, 201014 yr These are the sort of campaigns we need. ACTUAL Christmas songs back at the top of the charts for the festive period. So what if it isn't against The fiX Factor? If it beats it, it doesn't matter either way :P I personally am going to back it and send the link to all my friends on FB because it's a far better song choice than that silence crap. And yes I do see the irony of that. It's stupid.
