Sandra Bullock won for the reasons Jark listed. $h!tty reasons no doubt, but those were why. It was also a generally weak year; Carey should have won though, in my opinion.

Anyway, pumppedddddd4dis. Seeing it in a few days. I've heard it's great. Of the best actress films, I've only seen The Kids Are All Right which was AMAZING, but much more of a great film than a film highlighting great acting. I'm super pumped on Rabbit Hole and Winter's Bone though, I've heard nothing but good things about either.

Sandra bullock did a brilliant performance. The shame of it all is that the movie it's self was a snore fest. If anyone who didn't a deserve an oscar, it was Kate Winslet for The Reader. Great actress in her own right but she wasn't even at her best in that movie. Angelina deserved it that year.
Kate was brilliant in The Reader, it just didn't compare to her previously nominated performances (not including Titanic). I love Angelina but she didn't deserve it for Changeling. It was definitely between Winslet and Streep.

Rabbit Hole is flopping so that probably puts Nicole out of the race.

?

Penelope Cruz won for Vicky Cristina Barcelona over actresses who stared in Doubt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and The Wrestler which were all far more financially successful. I definitely wouldn't put her out of the race at all, though I'd definitely put my money on Natalie.

Kidman won't win - she will definitely be nominated though (even a nomination will probably turn public opinion around). It'll be between Bening/Portman with Lawrence as the outsider. I think Rabbit Hole is doing perfectly fine considering the subject matter and the fact it's only on 34 screens (during the holidays too).

Not it isn't. It's on a certain amount of screens. It's being extended on the 14th of January. Plus it hasn't been released worldwide

Oscar tipped movies always start out in small screenings. Juno and Precious did. Even the recent Black swan.

I'm aware of that. Rabbit Hole opened with a pretty poor average of $10,000 per screen and is still only on $500,000 grossed. Meanwhile Black Swan, whilst also in limited release, averaged $80,000 per screen.

In its first weekend at 18 screens, Black Swan took $1.4m - now Rabbit Hole only had 5 screens. If Black Swan had only had 5 then it would've made about $400k in its opening weekend. Rabbit Hole has made $500k - but over the course of three weeks. There's no doubt that it's under-performing and that always affects a film's chances at winning an award, even if it's an actor or actress nom. Doesn't mean it can't be done of course but with Black Swan going so strong and so much acclaim for Portman (and Bening, rather bizarrely), Nicole doesn't have much of a shot I wouldn't say.

There's quite a large difference between a massively hyped Darren Aronofsky film and a smaller John Cameron Mitchell film (Kidman doesn't tend to have big box office pull either), throw in the fact they were incredibly late with finding a distributor/promotion too. I'd definitely say it's doing just about as expected... No one was expecting Black Swan numbers.
I will be disappointed if Natalie wins because i don't believe her performance is very oscar worthy but then i have seen several oscar winners do performances that i still stand by that they didn't deserve. I do wonder how they vote sometimes regarding awards. I don't believe it is down to the performance all the time.
The only thing stopping me from watching this is the bad quality of the rip. This is like the most anticipated film for me in the last 2 years! WHEN'S THE DVD LEAKING? UHH.
Natalie Portman is looking very hot in this movie. I really like its plot.

Are you serious? Kate Winslet's role is flawless. If Kate didn't win it that year, it should have been Anne Hathaway, whose perfromance was perfection as well.

Anyhow, I think Natalie Portman will win this. She's already got the Golden Globe in the pocket I think

This movie is amazing. I downloaded the screener and burned it to DVD and the quality's pretty good.

(I don't know whether we've got one of those DVD players that tries to make whatever you put in it HD?)

Anyway.. amazing. I was completely hooked all the way through it and it absolutely plays with your head.

When she was

peeling her skin

I was completely horrified!!

Mila is brilliant in this also. You never actually know if what she is doing is all in Nina's head or whether she is

out to get her. All in all, it's fantastic and I do hope Natalie gets the Oscar - she is immense the whole way through.

Would people reccommend I watch this? I don't think this is my sort of film whatsoever, but I am hearing excellent stuff, and the director is brilliant.
