BP, where does it say this is net pay ?

4. Darius Campbell

Darius is playing Prince Charming in Snow White at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow, a role that will no doubt suit him down to the ground.

The smooth singer and actor, who is performing in his first pantomime ever this year, will net £11,000 each week for the stint.

Late actor Gerard Kelly, who tragically passed away in October this year, was set to make £15,000 – a fee that audiences no doubt felt he more than earned with his hilarious antics on stage keeping them coming back year after year.

I took this to mean net pay Bramley, but could be wrong  If it's not net pay though, the statement is a little misleading IMO.

just a mention - cash for kids lunch

I read that people in Stirling are not happy about Wagner being added to the Stirling bill and want to boycott it. The organisers say he was one of 2 X Factor people offered to them but they're not going to talk about the contract. That's hardly going to calm those who're already up in arms is it?

Sounds suspiciously like he was bought on to the bill.

WHY DOES CONTROVERSY ERUPT AROUND EVERY SINGLE THING DARIUS DOES?

I don't know if it frustrates him but it sure as heck does me!

jeesh - fellow reality show contestand Darius - where have they been for ten years! Wagner is a no body who just embarrassed himself on a singing show by being terrible, words fail me! would be better if people just booed Wagner if he gave a bad performance, I am at a loss as to why Wagner has anything to do with Scotland - and why on earth he should be at the celebration at all??? its the shows organisers who have let themselves down by saying he could perform

BP, I read this differently, taking the word 'net' to mean capture, but you could well be right. I assumed that reporters would

not have access to the amount of tax paid, and the amount deducted for expenses etc. I understood that entertainers' salaries

are usually reported gross.

For D's sake I hope you are right.

That was my first reaction but when I thought about it..................

Who was on an ITV "reality" TV show on a Friday, in January/February THIS year? Begins with D and ends in S.

Technically Darius could quite correctly be referred to in that way.

I think it's great that Darius came back and won PSTOS and that he's had all this work since, appears to be so happy, and so many of you have enjoyed going to see him.

Personally though I can't help being disappointed as I so want an album of his own music in his own style. We've had so many empty promises that I don't think it's ever going to happen. :(

Now I've got that off my chest I just want to wish you all a Good Christmas and a Healthy Happy New Year! :)

I thought the same as you Sooz this morning whilst watching Aled Jones on BBC breakfast promoting his TWENTY EIGHTH ALBUM. I do like him a lot but in my mind his voice is no where near as good now aS Ds. It must be not what you do but who you know. A number of acts who dont have record deals also get to appear on certain shows like Alan titchmarsh show i.e Bernie nolan (not about her illness) who was on last week and others. a bit of a different place compared to winning popstar to opera star which yet again does not appear to have done him any favours career wise.Granted he has had a number of gigs but would prefer them to be of the calibre of the Albert hall and the matt monro tribute concert. As PIP says you would have thought after ten years of performing he would have moved on from the likes of Wagner.
yup, i get down seeing the likes of aled, nice chap-but i find his singing boring, releasing yet another xmas album..also that baritone bry..name escapes me as usual was on the other day with an album, singing some standard..all i could think of was how much better d could sing these songs, the baritone sounded awful singing merry little christmas or some other xmas standard far too deep, i am doubting whether a new album will appear, xmas is one mai time, valentines dy, mothers day...would have loved a xmas album with darius singing the standards like merry little xmas, his voice suits them so well

I would have settled for a big band album, even a live album from the show released for Christmas would have been something. Given the success of the show, surely it would have been worthwhile, as a live album wouldn't be too difficult to put together IMO.

At least he's had a busy and successful 2010, let's hope for lot's more in 2011 ;)

Darius sings everything well and is heads above many putting out Albums.

Personally I find the big band songs Darius sings are pleasant enough but he's singing and written songs in a style previously done by others. Where are the heartfelt songs and melodies that he can write and once said filled his dreams? The hand in pocket, suited, crooning, finger clicking Darius appears old fashioned to me, and I’m 56 :o Please don't get me wrong I'm not doing him down I've followed him from his first appearance on Popstars and I haven't given up on him yet but I long for his emotive voice, his energy, the meaningful lyrics and catchy melodies. Another year gone and still no sign of an album, I'll be pushing up daises by the time he gets around to it

Just realised I'm not 56 I'm 55 - I've got longer to wait than I thought so panic over! ;)

What style would that be then Sooz

ha ha I'll settle for something along the lines of Dive-In Live Twice or any one of his B-sides ;)

I didn't feel you were doing him down Sooz, hope my fun post didn't come over that I thought you were  I have the same wishes as yourself, but when I expressed them to D at Lincoln he seemed a little dissappointed. I wouldn't lie to him though as I don't feel he would want that at all. We can only wait and see what direction he chooses next. I can't think of anything I'd have less interest in him doing than Opera, but I supported him at the o2 so will doubtless do so again, wherever he roam

Bless you I didn't think that at all :) It's just that I know how a post can come across in a way that was unintended sometimes. I wanted to make what I was trying to say clear so that I wasn't upsetting anyone.

Darius has to do what he feels is right for him and that which makes him happy, I know that. Selfishly I just want the like of songs such as Simple like the Truth, Now or Never, Mercury Rising or Rushes and had hoped to get more than two albums of those type of songs. I keep hoping that when his album comes out I will like it but its disappointing when he keeps saying the album will be out this year and this year always becomes next year

I think we just get frustrated when we feel nothing is happening, but it doesn't mean we care any the less. I saw Rod Stewart being intervieved on This Morning because he's just released is 5th swing music album, he wouldn't use the words 'big band music'??, and IMO his voice just doesn't do the songs justice, not a patch on what we've had the opportunity to hear on the tour, and yet he's being raved over. It's so unfair. Sue

I really feel for Darius. The disappointment of not getting an album released must get to him. At least his management are with him this time. I actually listen to 5 of the number on the tour regularly and would like them to be on his album. I'm not a fan of swing music - I suppose I grew up on real rock and swing was something my parents loved. My daughter loves swing as well and Darius does it really well but you can't like all music just because he sings it. I appreciate how good his voice is in those songs though. Having 5 songs I like would let me buy the album, so that's what I hope we get. I really, really hope we get some b sides as good as 'Now or Never' as an added bonus.
