Dalisska's place......really not sure tbh.

I like to think I enter interesting, quirky and fun songs to BJSC. As for an actual place....gee I suppose I'm one of those countries that's success goes up and down a lot....but never really achieves a mega hit (like top five)

At the very least I hope Dalisska as a country is a bit unpredictable and brings something different to the table.

I'm also known for not exactly doing badly when I turn to the US for my entries. 3/29 entries I've used American artists, which resulted in 3/3 wins.

The hunt for my next American 'love song' continues... :heehee:

I'm all over the place.

I seem to do rather well with scandipop/'rock' [Alex Roots & Molly Sandén] Scandipop [Tone] and Eurodance [Cristina]

Also the more Singersongwriter does uptempo-esque stuff [Lily - The Fear, Gab Cilmi]

There are 3 major rules to flopping in BJSC

1. Send something which has no universal appeal

2. Send a male artist with a non pop track

3. Send Mira Craig

I've suffered all three of these :( Luckily I have 25 odd hits to ease the pain :heehee:

Good lord I just realised that my 17th place with Ingrid Michaelson is in fact my 6th best result...and also I've finished between 17th and 20th five times.

Sigh.

I'm just thrilled to have managed 3hits in a row after having 4DNQ's [and I Like That for transition, although that blates should have been top 3]

I don't know what the hell happened there. That's my favourite entry of yours between Butterflies and now by quite some margin. It's anthemic! I was literally gobsmacked to see it do so badly - taste was severely lacking somwhere along the line with that result.

I agree 10000000000000000000000000000000% Literally everyone one i have played that track to has fallen in love with it. All of my friends adore it, hell even my little sister loves it! And her and I have very very very little common ground when it comes to music.

It's easily the track of the year for me, and it's well into my favourite tracks of all time. As usual i has you to thank for that nudge in it's direction.

Over 170plays for the 5minute version :funky:

I was shocked by how bad it did, to be quite honest i expected it to be a huge success, but apparently BJSC doesn't appreciate Dance music, even in it's most orgasmic form.

I don't know who I am tbh. In my head I'm a major player, but my success rate has majorly dropped recently, and tbh I can only dream of being on the same level as Rontvia. So I plod away in the background, hitting more often than not, but more mid-table than top 10 lately. Becoming a mod hasn't really helped ease this feeling, but I keep entering the contest, because I love the new discoveries, I love talking about entries and I love results night

Even I've racked up 30 odd plays of the 5 minute version and my top played song of the year only has 78 plays (on iTunes at least!). It's a fantastic dance song, I knew it would be right up your street  Although I'm not sure about that video of it with pregnant Dannii and Abomination McFadden dancing to it :heehee:

Impressive!!! We've already covered my ability to rack up huge plays

It's so far up my street it's sitting on my sofa with a cuppa, shoes off and feet on the coffee table

That video is hilarious!!! partially for Dannii's incredible moves [that arm move it epicness] and partially for Mcf***wit thinking 1] he can dance 2] he is relevant and 3] he is anything other than an complete moron.

 Careful, you'll have Luciana in your bedroom next!

True I suppose. Although it scares me to think that he had a #1 in Aus just a few months back with that terrible song - lucky you weren't there at the time that happened - how would you cope with hearing that monstrosity on the hour all day long :kink:

Thank christ i wasn't. Not that i actually listened to Aussie radio, and we didn't have music channels. I had Buzzjack an that was it. I would have had to see his face in the HMV/Sanity/JB Hi-Fi stores all across the city. :puke:

She can join me in my bedroom if she wishes. :kink:

Looking back at the Christmas spin-off, I just realised I got a similar result for Sara McLachlan as well

In relation to other countries, the only consistancies I've noticed are that I seem to send songs that Rich likes but are too obvious / likely to flop for him to ever think of sending :P Still it means high points from FSR Rontvia more often than not. Also when I go down the singer-songwritery route I tend to be fairly safe in the knowledge that I'll recieve high points from Quotosibb, Kylienips and (formerly) Nonsuch.

Although my entry seemed to have been completely overlooked by Kylienips this month...not that I'm bitter :drama:

I can usually be relied on to give decent points to singer-songwriter stuff too if it's got a decent melody even though I tend not to send them myself, just because I haven't really found anything from the genre I love that much for a while now.

I don't understand what happened with Kylienips and Ingrid, Mikey hated the song and it seems right up his street. I'd be interested to hear what exactly he disliked about it so much :P

From experience i've found that this will create a guaranteed flop, as in, outside the top half or top 2 thirds, apart from when i send a hugely well known artist (Sufjan Stevens came 19th i think). But idk, flopping is all relative to me, i was more pleased about Fever Ray coming top 15 (?) or Former Ghosts almost qualifying than Florence finishing 6th or so because i was expecting her to be pretty successful.

The disappointments i've encountered are when i send incredibly simple, euphoric pop songs, Phoenix - 1901 and Girls - Lust For Life. I'm not sure how these didn't have universal appeal, but clearly they didn't. Maybe they're too simplistic.

That's probably one of the biggest down sides of this contest.....there are certain songs and artists I feel like they'd never have a hope regardless of what song you might send them singing. Kind of like a "it'll happen when pigs fly" sort of situation.

It would be nice if there were the odd exceptions....but It doesn't seem like it....you put those two together and you're just asking for a flop.

Tinnmark have sent

12 Norwegian entries (1 entry featured a Swedish artist)

3 Swedish

2 German entries

1 Finnish

1 Icelandic

1 Danish

1 American

I don't really know what my place is to be honest

I'm certainly a lot less tied with the competition than I used to be; I'm not sure if that's more because I got a bit bored with it or because certain people's over enthusiasticness has put me more and more off (lord knows it was part of the reason I quit modship) but I still feel like BJSC wouldn't be BJSC without the big Torchwood <3 Not to like blow my own trumpet or anything.

So yeah, to sum up, no idea ^_^
