Posted July 19, 200618 yr Glastonbury 2007 Headlining act question!!! Having listened to Mark Radcliffe interview Michael & Emily Eavis on Radio 2 this afternoon - Michael revealed that one of the headlining acts (along with Kylie Minogue) is a band that has not played professionally together for over 25 years. :o Does anyone want to speculate on who that could be?
July 19, 200618 yr Author I would deliriously settle for Pink Floyd - last proper gig with David Gilmour & Roger Waters in the band was in 1981 or Led Zeppelin - last gig was in 1980 (to reform with Dave Grohl on drums).
July 19, 200618 yr The Clash? It'd be 25 years since Combat Rock...mind you Joe's a bit much to replace. You could well be on to something with Led Zep or Pink Floyd. Abba? :D
July 20, 200618 yr Author Michael Eavis also went on BBC 6 Music & revealed "it's one of the greatest bands in the world who haven't played at Glastonbury for 35 years." That narrows it down to two realistic contenders - Pink Floyd (who played Glastonbury in 1971) & Genesis with Peter Gabriel (who played Glastonbury in 1972) - they are currently recording a new album with Peter Gabriel for the first time since "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" in 1975.
July 20, 200618 yr I'm hoping for Floyd really. And they'd better headline the Sunday and not fukkin' Kylie... <_< (who's about as much a Glastonbury act as Dumpy's Rusty Nuts...), cos there would be a poetry about it if '07 was to be the last ever Glasto, full circle in a way....

July 20, 200618 yr No way will Floyd do Glastonbury Waters and Gilmour will never patch up their differences, Waters and Gilmour were offered a kings ransom to reform for the recent gig in France but Gilmour refused point blank so Waters, Mason and co did the gig without Gilmour so I don't think anything could have changed in ths time given the gig was last Saturday If its Floyd it will be without Gilmour

I thought Dave Gilmour won the rights to use the name Pink Floyd, not Roger Waters...
July 20, 200618 yr I'm somewhat confused by all this tbh.. I thought Dave Gilmour won the rights to use the name Pink Floyd, not Roger Waters... Yeah they didn't call themselves Pink Floyd, it was the entire group bar Dave Gilmour, the concert was billed as Roger Waters and it had Mason and co performing too but there were in depth attempts to try and have Gilmour and Waters play together but Gilmour would not budge so I really don't see Waters and Gilmour reforming for Glastonbury
July 20, 200618 yr I find it odd that Gilmour got the rights to the Pink Floyd name when he wasn't even a founding member If my memory serves me correctly the original line up was Barrett, Waters, Wright and Mason Edited July 20, 200618 yr by Ozzy Osbourne
July 20, 200618 yr Author Isn't John Paul Jones dead as well....? No, he appeared on the Foo Fighters last album & is still used occasionally for string/orchestral arrangements & he still lives with his family in some country manor in Devon. If Michael Eavis had not said on BBC6 Music about last playing Glastonbury 35 years ago, then I would have added Joy Division to the list of suspects, as the members of New Order have been playing special/charity gigs as Joy Division in the last few years.

Dumpy's Rusty Nuts???? are they like ned's atomic dustbin???

July 20, 200618 yr Author ^ I hope not. <_< The Beach Boys had been releasing records into the early 1990s. They had a US #1 hit with the awful Kokomo (from the Tom Cruise vehicle "Cocktail") in 1988. However the last gig Brian Wilson played with the band was in the 1980s & ..... (From Wikipedia) Setting aside differences On June 13, 2006, the major surviving Beach Boys (Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks) all set aside their differences and reunited for a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the album Pet Sounds and the double-platinum certification of their greatest hits compilation, Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of the Beach Boys, in a ceremony atop the Capitol Records building in Hollywood. Plaques were awarded for their efforts to all major members, with Brian Wilson accepting for his late brothers Carl and Dennis. Wilson himself implied there is a chance that all the living members (having not performed together since the late 1980s) will reunite again.
