After the critical acclaim of her last album 'Mary Ann Meets The Gravediggers And Other Short Stories' and two tours in 2005/6 that have wowed audiences UK-wide, Regina Spektor is back with 'Begin To Hope', treading a delicate balance between her anti-folk past and this major label debut.

The album's big, glossy production and preponderance of drum machines and keyboards inches Spektor toward territory that isn't exactly mainstream, but is closer to a more conventional adult alternative singer/songwriter sound. But even though 'Begin To Hope's first few songs might suggest otherwise, Spektor is much too freewheeling and quirky a talent to stick to the straight and narrow for the entirety; show tunes, classic soul, the Bible, and the backs of cereal boxes are all inspirations for the album.

Porbably may favourite singer-songwriter, she really is an amazing artist. The song 'Us' (video above) is a modern day classic, and her new album 'Begin To Hope' she tries new styles, and uses things such as drums and guitar. If you check out her compilation for the UK 'Mary Ann Meets The Gravediggers' you will find some of the most beautiful songs you will ever find

She's brilliant.

I've heard her name for years, but never really got round to checking out her music until recently.

She reminds me of a young Kate Bush.

She is pretty great. I love Samson so much - really great song.

I'm really glad she's been catching on over the last few years

I first heard her three years ago nearly, it's so nice to see her get recognition finally.

I like her, but at the same time I just can't get into her as much as I would like. I do love Better, Fidelity, Samson, On the Radio, and Apres Moi though. (All I have is Begin to Hope)

Check out her 'Soviet Kitsch' album, too! It's pretty nice and I think you may like that.

I love the songs you mentioned too - especially "Samson" and "Better".
