I have to admit it was really close between Take That and Rihanna for my #1 spot this week. In the end, I decided to give Rihanna the edge but ( :D ) I'm not ruling out Take That climbing to no. 1 next week.

I can't understand how that happened myself. I guess Take That, Shayne Ward and McFly were all heavily frontloaded meaning Alexis had to make do with a lower iTunes peak throughout the week. Obviously 'Happiness' is a more consistant selling single so while Shayne, McFly and even Take That (surprisingly) dropped down iTunes, it paved the way for Alexis to overtake again.

I still quite like this song but totally agree it's not up to the same standard of 'Get The Party Started', 'Just Like A Pill' or 'So What'. Oh, didn't know Pink wrote 'Whataya Want From Me' although that's already been a fairly big hit in my chart for Adam Lambert,

'Party Girl' was better imo, quite shockingly as it was something I'd never have expected McFly to release. It seems they've been so influenced by Lady GaGa and US RnB (well, US RnB this year has been better than in previous years imo mainly thanks to Bruno Mars). One thing is certain - McFly are a million times better than Busted could've ever dreamed of. To think Busted started out as my "guilty pleasure" back in 2004. :lol: Busted were never a "guilty pleasure". They were just rubbish!!! :D

It's surprising when you consider when 'Shame' first premiered, everyone said it'd be no. 1 with ease. Bizarrely, I still think 'Shame' would've been UK #1 had it been released three weeks earlier but the record company wanted big first week sales to ensure no. 1 - they got the decent sales but forgot about their competition (Cee Lo Green) and thus the better song won the chart battle. Again, 'The Flood' first premiered about 6 weeks ago and the record company have kept the release back to get big first week sales to ensure no. 1 - but again they've completely underestimated how popular Rihanna's track is. Note to Take That's record company; it's not 1994 anymore. Release the song soon after it premiers. You might get Take That to no. 1 then. -_- That said, I'm sure 'Progress' is going to fly off the shelves this week and is bound to be no. 1 next week. It might even sell over 100k in its first two days of release. :o

The video is good but it blatantly rips off ideas already used in 'Beautiful' by Christina Aguilera and 'Unpretty' by TLC. Still, great video especially the technical artistry involved making it look like Katy Perry's breasts are fireworks. :lol:

I guess so but I think this track is great. It's got an infectious chorus "i've got the magic, magic, magic, awoooo!!!" :D Not bad going at all for B.o.B. - three top 10 singles for me. The best thing about B.o.B. is that all three of his hits have been completely different, not relied on samples and are great tracks.

Indeed :wub: Take That was so close to replacing Rihanna at no. 1 but in the end 'Only Girl' held strong to make it three weeks at no. 1 for me.

'Firework' deserves to be a big hit. I wasn't particularly fussed with 'Teenage Dream' - though it was good but nothing spectacular. As a result that song peaked at #7 for me and plummeted. I can see 'Firework' having a much better chart run overall.

I have to admit it was really close between Take That and Rihanna for my #1 spot this week. In the end, I decided to give Rihanna the edge but ( :D ) I'm not ruling out Take That climbing to no. 1 next week.

I can't understand how that happened myself. I guess Take That, Shayne Ward and McFly were all heavily frontloaded meaning Alexis had to make do with a lower iTunes peak throughout the week. Obviously 'Happiness' is a more consistant selling single so while Shayne, McFly and even Take That (surprisingly) dropped down iTunes, it paved the way for Alexis to overtake again.

 

07 (--) Pink - Raise Your Glass (07) [1 wk] It's not really up there with her classics imo, I probably won't bother with her GH collection, I have all of the songs apart from the 2 new ones, one of which is her version of Adam Lambert's Whataya Want From Me (which she wrote) so I hear.

 

I still quite like this song but totally agree it's not up to the same standard of 'Get The Party Started', 'Just Like A Pill' or 'So What'. Oh, didn't know Pink wrote 'Whataya Want From Me' although that's already been a fairly big hit in my chart for Adam Lambert,

 

11 (--) McFly feat. Taio Cruz - Shine A Light (11) [1 wk] Not too bad at all, although admittedly I preferred Party Girl. At least they're a hell of a lot better than they were 5 years ago!

 

'Party Girl' was better imo, quite shockingly as it was something I'd never have expected McFly to release. It seems they've been so influenced by Lady GaGa and US RnB (well, US RnB this year has been better than in previous years imo mainly thanks to Bruno Mars). One thing is certain - McFly are a million times better than Busted could've ever dreamed of. To think Busted started out as my "guilty pleasure" back in 2004. :lol: Busted were never a "guilty pleasure". They were just rubbish!!! :D

I know there's no comment here but I'm really surprised this is bombing in the UK. It's surprisingly really good for a band who I otherwise couldn't care less about. Easily their best single since 'What I've Done'.

I always hated Busted, I don't even like one of their songs, not even looking through rose tinted glasses - they started when I was at my final year of high school so maybe I should be remembering them fondly :lol: But McFly have at times been completely $hite. However, they've had a few hits in my chart over the years - Obviously, Star Girl, One For The Radio (:lol:) and Party Girl.

I never buy albums based on one song. Well, tell a lie I bought Will Young 'Friday's Child' and Madonna 'Confessions...' based on one single but in the last 2/3 years I've never bought an album based on one single. Back in 2008, a lot of my mates at work lent me albums I was interested in buying - having listened to them, I'm glad I didn't as some were underwhelming. I did however go on to buy Coldplay's 'Viva La Viva' album after lending it off a mate (yes, I didn't just burn it to a blank disc :D ).

'Shine A Light' enters the UK chart at no. 4 selling over 50k!!! :drama: I just didn't see that happening at all. :lol: Considering 'Party Girl' entered at no. 6 selling around 40k, that's actually very good for McFly's follow up to not just peak higher but also sell more in its first week. Actually, reading back my comment I realised just how badly OT it was. McFly - US RnB - Busted. :lol: As for Busted, 'Thunderbirds Are Go' and 'Year 3000' were their only singles I could tolerate.

oh no, I don't "love" it either. It'd rocket to no. 1 if that was the case. What is really strange is that as Linkin Park seem to be getting more unpopular (in terms of UK chart success), the more I'm liking their material. I also thought last single 'The Catalyst' was quite good too. I didn't like Linkin Park at all when they were huge in 2000/2001. Mind you, Limp Bizkitt were a hell of a lot worse (both bands seemed to represent the same genre; nu-metal :puke: ). Now I despised Limp Bizkitt with a passion.
