To be fair ... they were big in those countries back in the nineties

Well, actually TT were number 2 with BW in both Denmark and Germany and Patience was number one in Switzerland, Germany, Denmark,Spain and top10 in several other european countries.

Some people are trying to convince us that TT are having their current success only because of Robbie. I strongly disagree with this statement.Take That are genuinely loved and have their own following outside the Uk.Its undeniable. May i also add-Robbie wouldn't have had those monster record breaking sales in the Uk on his own, would he? So this success is definitely a collective effort.

I don't think that is the feeling as far as the UK and Ireland are concerned. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that Progress would have been massive whether Rob was with them or not. It cannot be denied though ... Europe is down to Rob's name. I'm not saying the music is any better because he's with them ... its just that his name is opening doors.

I agree also ... that Rob wouldn't have had these monster sales in the UK had he released the album on his own ... but I think I did say that in my original post. In the UK HE needs them ... in Europe THEY need him. It's a reciprocal arrangement.

. Europe is down to Rob's name

It depends on the country,i suppose. Some countries like France or Sweden, for instance, were never really welcoming towards Take That, whereas some countries like Germany or Italy on the other hand were always fond of TT and they still have quite big fan bases over there. Anyway, I hope they restore their success outside the Uk with this album. I think they have some good chances really.

I completly agree with Kathy when she said the success for both is a reciprocal arrangement. Yes Take That are far bigger in Ireland and the UK and Robbie would not have managed such high opening sales had progress been his album where as take that would have without him. That said outside Europe Robbies name is bigger and take that will benefit in that area. To be fair Take That are hardly unknown outside the UK and Ireland and have their own loyal fan bases in places like Germany and Italy and that mixed with Robbies larger european fan base the potential for more success is greater.

At this stage and with the way things are goin i couldnt care less though who is and isnt bigger here there and everywhere, the fact remains for me that progress as an album is damn good and deserves to do very well for them, the quality of music is what counts for me and nothing else and i cant fault the quality on progress.

Officaly number 1 again this week putting a stop to both JLS and Westlife, we should get sales later on but im thinking around 215,000 for this week.

208220 Take That

152474 JLS

94894 Westlife

I think it takes some time before they reach 1M mark. I thought they would do it a lot faster to be honest...

Good sales but alot slower than the circus at this stage and will take longer than the circus to do the million, progress is still doing extremely well though, total UK sales are now 726,821 so its well past double platnum and should go triple platnum with next weeks sales.
What were The Circus sales leading up to christmas? You should keep in min The Circus came out two weeks later that Progress......so it was nearer to christmas which helped it to sell rather quick. Ist there any promotion for the album in the UK next week?

The circus sales were

Week 1 432,001

Week 2 319,265

Week 3 382,005

Week 4 312,707

Week 5 46,903

Week 6 20,604

Weeks 1-5 were at Number 1 and week 6 the album was number 2.

Definitely a slow down in comparison to The Circus. The second week of Progress's sales account for 28% of the whole two weeks, whilst the second week of TC's sales accounted for 42% of the whole two weeks sales. HOWEVER - I think Progress will probably be seeing much bigger sales in weeks 5, 6, 7 and 8 ... and possibly a bit more. To be honest ... TC's sales dropped drastically after week 4 and have added precious little to total sales from then on in.

It's official Take That are No. 1 in Germany. And that's before promotion kicks off on Friday. Sales will be huge.......

Great news and thank you for sharing, progress is also number 1 in this weeks uk midweeks which is also great.
I think it's good Progress had tailed off more than The Circus, it might give it more longevity in the charts and the second single might have a better chance of doing well. Beautiful World had really steady sales over quite a long period and it ended up being their biggest selling album. They need to prove they can continue to sell Progress based on how good it is, rather than just the hype of Robbie returning.

I think it will sell in reasonable numbers through most of next year, i think with their albums now selling so huge in debut week the album dont have as much chart staying power although the circus has spent over 70 weeks alone in the top 75 and has re-climbed in the charts on the back of each single and i think progress will do the same. UK wise Robbie returning hasnt had a sales effect in some ways, progress at this point has sold less than the circus although sales are still fantastic.
So far good results for the album in Europe (Germany 1, Switerzland 2). Any other countries?

Thank you so much for keeping us updated with european chart performances checkers, its great to see the album doing so well.

So according to this article http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?section...1043507&c=1

Progress

#1

Germany

Uk

Ireland

Denmark

Greece

#2

Austria

Switzerland

Also:

France # 53

Australia # 65

Sweden # 41

Belgium # 36

Norway: #36

Czech Republic: #21

Mind you, those positions were before the EU promo kicked off so I am sure they should rise in the charts. At least in Sweden and Norway as Progress and The Flood both are very high on norwegian and swedish Itunes.
