I wouldnt call a 4 place drop to #7 a huge drop by any means, and considering it has sold almost 1.9 million copies in the last 8 weeks i wouldnt be worried at all.

It's dropped eight places to 11. As you say ... it has had fabulous sales so far ... but it is a good job they released it in the run-up to Christmas. Otherwise I think it may not be quite as near 2M as it is.

Take That proved to be the runaway winners in a year of mixed fortunes for the albums market in 2010

After scoring the number two albums of 2006 and 2008 with Beautiful World and The Circus respectively, Take That finally and decisively top the rankings for 2010 with their Robbie Williams reunion album Progress proving a worthy champion.

Selling 518,601 copies on its first week – a 21st century record – Progress soared to number one and stayed there for six weeks, selling 1,841,148 copies in 48 days before the year’s end. With catalogue sales bringing the group’s overall tally to 2,292,324, they were also the year’s biggest-selling act, an honour previously achieved in 2008.

Progress outsold all of 2010’s artist album releases by a margin of more than 1m copies. Its nearest challengers – and the only other albums to sell more than 1m copies in the year – were 2009 releases Crazy Love by Michael Buble (1,227,909 sales) and The Fame by Lady GaGa (1,051,909). Both also sold 1m units in 2009, when it was The Fame that was number two and Crazy Love at number three, positions reversed in the latest frame. They were among seven albums to remain in the Top 75 for the whole of 2010, alongside Biffy Clyro’s Only Revolution, Kings Of Leon’s Only By The Night, Mumford & Son’s Sigh No More, Paulo Nutini’s Sunny Side Up and Pixie Lott’s Turn It Up.

The album has sold around 44K this year so far ... it'll pick up after the Brits though I'm sure. Do you think they'll chicken out of performing Kidz if there is any more student protests/troubles around the time ... or do you think they'll just take advantage of the situation?

I dount chicken out as they wanted to perform it on x factor it was simon cowell who chickened out not take that, so i would say they will perform it at the brits
The best thing that could happen to that single is more protests. The potential controversy could be brilliant publicity.

I agree ... it could become an anthem ... or it could do a Frankie and get barred from radio! Either way ... it'd be brilliant publicity.

Ya publicity wise it would be great and no doubt boost the sales, it wouldnt do the album any harm either, good marketing ploy!!
I suggest we start one ourselves on release week

I am hoping that the album picks up a lot more sales after The Brits. As much as my regard of Gary Barlow has soured somewhat - the album deserves a good few more sales. I do prefer it to The Circus and, despite what I thought of him before, I actually do think Rob has added to Take That as much as Take That will have added to Rob. I actually quite like him being part of the line-up. I just have this awful feeling though that the album is going to hover around the sales mark it is now and never overtake The Circus. I thought it would have gone past the 2 million mark by now - given that both Take That fans and Rob fans seem to appreciate the album.

Its less than 200,000 sales away from beating the circus, but it has kidz to promote it, another single if not 2 after that, aside from the singles the brits will help sales, apparantly there is a dancing on ice performance and no doubt other bits and pieces and of course the tour. Them combined will ensure at least 300,000 more sales and it will have drip drip type sles inbetween all of that, so i think there is plenty of sales left in the album yet.

Gary has just said on radio BBC2 that "they're recording" some new tracks at the moment specially for re-release of the album "Progress". I knew it would happen!

This kind of thing always happens though ... I think we all assume anyone with a major selling album will release a 'deluxe/special edition' 10 months or so later.
