Has Progress topped the two million mark yet? I've seen nothing to say so but it must have surely?

I'm not sure if its quite there yet to be honest. The best person to ask is Vidcapper in the Chart Thread.

*Edit - they may actually have hit the 2M mark. If you add together Vidcapper's stats of year end 2010 and 2011's (so far sales) you have:

2010 - 1,841,149

2011 (so far) - 159,200

Making a total of 2,000,349

Its been painfully slow getting there though - after the initial sales towards the end of 2010. I just find Take That's efforts lately (TC & Progress) are so very heavily front-loaded and then taper to almost nothing. Beautiful World however still sells consistently.

Great news, 2 million and its still selling so there are quite a few sales left in yet plus the tour will help it olut alot aswell.

5000 last week. Its barely selling at all now to be honest.

Actually! it is still doing ok, compared to The Circus where it dropped completely this time 2 years ago...until the tour!

The tour edition, (hopefully a new single) and the tour here and across Europe will boost it nicely

It is the case with acts like Take That though that their sales are very heavily front-loaded for the first month or so. Die hard fans will often buy two or three copies of the album and give them to relatives as Christmas presents (they may want them - they may not). This is why sales after the first month or so go off to a trickle almost. I find it a bit disappointing to be honest - it certainly gives credence to those that say that they're selling to a captive audience and not really extending on it. It has taken Take That just under five months to reach the 2M mark whilst the way Adele's 21 is selling - it'll reach the 2M mark in just over three months.

Personally I'd have thought Rob joining would have gee'd up their sales a lot more than it has.

Yes, sales are initially high for take that in the opening weeks and then tail off, but the album has managed 140,000 sales in 2011 so far, i know that is not great but they havnt had a huge single or anything to boost sales, take that are one of the lucky bands in my opinion who have such a huge base who initially rush out to buy the album as it shows people are keen to get the album asap rather than waiting to see what the singles are like. Its also a clear indicator that fans have been happy enough with previous releases to rush out and buy the new album aswell. In the climate of sales take that are performing extraordinary well, for many acts they have a huge selling album and the follow up manages to sell like a 5th less, this hasnt happened with take that.

I do agree that i thought robbie re joining would have added more sales but as i have said before i think there is quite a few sales left in the album yet and it will no doubt outsell the circus, again to be fair beautiful world had it not the deluxe release would have roughly sold the same as the circus so all 3 studio albums are more going to have sold the same, had they all deluxes like beautiful world the sales would be even higher, but it does show take that have the fans and didnt need robbie to add sales in the UK.

Adele's success has been amazing and has had consistent sales week after week, but had it been released in the christmas market and acheived 2 monster week sales of over 500,000 and 400,000 respectively sales would have also trickled off but not to the extent progress has.

The thing with Adele though is yes she's going to have a massive selling album but then will she get another one, then another one then another one? Will she get four two million selling albums? I very much doubt it.

This will be her highest selling album. It will go downhill afterwards. It has happened before and it will happen again.

If they promoted Kidz properly as the second single I still believe it could have reached top 10 on the singles and given the album a nice 200k+ boost, similar to the effect Shine had on Beautiful World. It just seems that they are too preoccupied with Progress Live and 'new material'. Lets hope its worth it

Kidz release was messy but i think it wouldnt have made a huge difference to album sales although it might have given it a slightly higher boost. For me though, i am happy with the album sales, 2 million sales of an album in 21 weeks is still pretty impressive, so if it never sold another copy it has been a huge success in my opinion. I think without a deluxe release progress will eventually manage 2.2 million uk sales.

As for Adele,it will be hard for her to follow up the huge success of her current album, i do think she will remain successful but without doubt this is her peak era, on saying that adele and take that are completly different artist so the comparisons are pointless really.

Exactly, couldn't have put it better myself :)

it's quite ridiculous that some people doen't seem satisfied with Progress' sales so far... The album SOLD 2m copies... (the 4th consecutive release to do so). no OTHER band is selling better in the UK... MOST artists don't reach 2m copies sold..(ever).. and they do it basically every time. I also want to add that Take That exist since 1990... they are not relatively new.
Don't forget european sales of about 1-1.1 million up to now. Progress will eventually be their biggest album ever. Robbie re-joining had an definite effect on european sales. They have been the biggest act in the UK in the last five years........nothing to worry about. They are doing fantastic.

But Stevyy - they're selling to a captive audience (in the UK anyway). Their next album will sell 2M too - but it'll be to the same people. Real progress would have been to see a significant increase in sales from BW (still their best seller) to The Circus to Progress. Their sales are great yes - but stagnant.

Well the recent interest in her has brought sales of her album of two years ago over half a million so far this year ... so yes - it is quite possible for her to have a number 2M selling albums in the future (not to mention her impressive sales in the USA and beyond).

Yes Pete I know that the two acts are totally different and can't be compared musically - but I'm just concerned that someone like Adele can reach out to a wider spectrum of people whilst Take That really only seem to be selling to the same people again and again (despite the new album supposed to be 'different')

Don't get me wrong I still quite like Take That (having spent money seeing them nine times over the past four years - I still have a vested interest in them) I just don't think people should say that Take That are the ONLY act to reach glorious sales.

I completely agree, Stevvy. If TT album sales are stagnant, then it's a glorious achievement to be this stagnant. It's a testament to the quality of their output that they are able to maintain such a large fanbase.

I'm of the opinion that even if they didn't sell one more copy of Progress, this Progress era (album + tour) would have to be considered a great success. There's a very limited number of acts that can sell their albums and stadium tours in these numbers.
