Some solid recordings in here m8. HEALTH, Crystal Castles, Girl Talk and Arcade Fire all good albums. Gallops et The Soft Pack to a lesser extent. I seem to slide about all over the place with my opinion of Laura Marling. She's OKAY I GUESS. Nice album for #1 is nice.

genre: alternative/electropop

I love this album quite a lot, definatly one of my favourite discoveries this year (thanks to UP!), got addicted to 'Young Blood', then got addicted to 'All of This' and 'Punching In A Dream', downloaded the album as soon as it came out, fell in love. My favourite thing about it is the industrial-esqe electronic beats that are clearly very influenced by Nine Inch Nails (a favourite band of a few of the members it appears, who were also the two who produced the album as well, not many new young bands produce themselves and when they do they don't sound this amazing, brilliant sound design, although i knew one of them was capable from a certain NIN fan project he produced the music for), so it was inevitable I would dig that part of the album, they have taken what is normally a non-mainstream type sound and morphed it into a pop sound, with much success. 'Girls Like You' is infectous as well.

I was really wowed by this album, they developed their sound so successfully, a real brilliant album, a massive step forward from their also great debut. This is the Horrors - Primary Colours of 2010.

Highlight tracks:

Spanish Sahara

Total Life Forever

The Naked and Famous and Foals both commendable laddd. I seem to find an album I like every 5-6 chart positions which means there's really no need for me to return to this thread. Happy New Year and best wishes for 2011!!!!

5. The Futureheads - The Chaos

http://ruthsmanuvas.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/the-chaos.jpg

genre: post-punk revival

As Rabbitfurcoat said in his countdown it says a lot when an album this good is a band's 3rd best album out of four. They will never top their self titled debut for me, and This Is Not The World just has too many superb pop songs, this was perhaps a slightly darker and heavier album (emphasis on slightly). The most creative band of the 2005 era of post-punk revival indie, it's a shame they get as little recognition as they do.

Highlight tracks:

'Struck Dumb'

'The Connector'

'Sun Goes Down'

4. Toh Kay and Dan Potthast - You By Me: Vol 1

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8I9EgmPbbiI/TOrPHY3yDkI/AAAAAAAAECM/KlHPZCQNw-o/s1600/folder.jpg

This is Tomas Kalnoky (Toh Kay) performing songs written by Dan Potthast acoustically and Dan Potthast performing songs written by Tomas Kalnoky acoustically. Kalnoky is possibly my favourite songwriter ever and a performer I love so it was a treat to hear some of his songs done in a much different style and it was great to hear his interpetation of Dan Potthast songs.

Highlight tracks:

'Downtown' (performed by Toh Kay, written by Dan Potthast)

'We Will Fall Together' (performed by Dan Potthast written by Toh Kay)

3. Streetlight Manifesto - 99 Songs of Revolution: volume 1

http://blog.sajakrocks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/99SongsOfRevolution.jpg

genre: ska punk

This was a long long long time coming, with the first time the project being mentioned being in an EP sleeve in 2001, the first volume finally emerges 9 years later, with it's first release date being 2008. That's just how much bandleader Tomas Kalnoky is a perfectionist I guess. An album full of covers, all done brilliantly and in a style different to the original, the band really make the songs their own. And I couldnt get enough of their cover of Linoleum. Such a talented and fantastic band.

'Linoleum' (NOFX cover)

'They Provide the Paint for the Picture-Perfect Masterpiece That You Will Paint on the Insides of Your Eyelids' (Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution cover)

'Hell' (Squirrel Nut Zippers cover)

1. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - The Social Network OST

http://losslessalbum.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Trent-Reznor-and-Atticus-Ross-The-Social-Network.jpg

Incredible piece of music that creates a perfect and dark tone for the film, helping David Fincher create the fantastic mood that the film has. The score is perfectly composed and well performed, this is one of the greatest pieces of music Reznor has put together, and is certainly his best work outside of NIN.

Highlight tracks:

'Hand Covers Bruise'

'On We March'

'In Motion'

'In the Hall of The Mountain King'

'Pieces Form The Whole'
