Posted December 5, 201014 yr X Factor Finalists 2010 – Heroes stays at #1 So this year’s X-Facrot Finalists have done what last year’s just failed to do, that is get a second week at #1. Their cover of David Bowie’s Heroes gets a second week on top in a very closely run top 3 this week. Indeed charity singles are one of the few types of record to rely on physical CD sales, Heroes downloads have dwindled somewhat this week. However either way, it is raising money for Help For Heroes charity, a true definition of the word “hero”! Nicole Scherzinger – Poison enters at #3 Former lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls with the surname some struggle to pronounce, Nicole Scherzinger gets her first big solo hit this week as Poison enters at #3. Helped along by an X-Factor performance and decent airplay, Poison has proved much more popular than previous solo efforts. In 2007 whilst still with her group, Nicole released her debut solo single Baby Love which made #14 but subsequent singles Supervillain and Puakenikeni failed to chart. Therefore her planned debut album Her Name Is Nicole did not materialize … maybe because she didn’t actually know her name! Now her solo career gets off to a much better (re)start as Poison hits #3. David Guetta feat Rihanna – Who's That Chick enters at #9 That “chick” is Rihanna, as she scores a third simultaneous top 10 hit this week with Who’s That Chick alongside David Guetta. French DJ and producer David Guetta first hit the charts under his own name with Just A Little More Love in 2001 making #19. Then in 2006, he scored a top 5 smash with Love Don’t Let Me Go (Walking Away) followed by top 10 Love Is Gone. Then last year, he had 2 #1s with When Love Takes Over (feat Kelly Rowland) and Sexy Bitch (feat Akon). He has had 2 #1s this year with Getting Over You (feat Chris Willis, Fergie & LMFAO) and Flo Rida’s Club Can’t Handle Me. Who’s That Chick comes in at #9 and completes 3 Rihanna songs in a row, What’s My Name up 2 to #8 and Only Girl down 2 to #7. One artist has not scored 3 top 10 hits in one week since John Lennon in 1980. Coldplay – Christmas Lights enters at #18 Chris Martin & co make their return to the top 40 this week with their new single and a brand new Christmas song, in case the title didn’t give it away! Coldplay formed in 1996 and got their first breakthrough in 2000 with #4 hit Yellow, this was followed by 10 top 10 hits including their solitary #1 so far Viva La Vida. They were last seen in the top 40 last year when Life In Technicolour II made #28, now they hit #18 with their first xmas song entitled Christmas Lights. Just behind Coldplay, we find the 2 classic xmas songs re-entering for the fourth year running – Mariah #22 and Pogues/Kirsty #26. N-Dubz – Girls enters at #23 UK hip hop group N-Dubz enter at #23 with their new single Girls, the second to be taken from their new album Love Live Life. This is essentially an album track, however is due for a full single release in a fortnight’s time so expected to become the group’s 7th UK top 20 hit out of 13 releases to date. This comes just 6 weeks after Best Behaviour debuted and peaked at #10. Afrojack feat Eva Simons – Take Over Control enters at #24 Dutch producer and DJ Afrojack gets his debut top 40 hit this week with Take Over Control, in at #24. The track features the vocals of fellow Dutch vocalist Eva Simons, who released her own single Silly Boy last year but failed to chart. Eva is due to release her debut solo album next year, she has also appeared on a Chris Brown album Track Pass Out (not the Tinie Tempah song). Alexa Goddard – Turn My Swag On enters at #26 Turn My Swag On is the third single from rapper Soulja Boy’s debut album, however it failed to chart in its original form. It was hip hop producer Greg Street who charted earlier on this year with the track, making #17. The song was performed by X-Factor contestant Cher Lloyd in the slower style of Keri Hilson, however the Keri version is not available to purchase. Therefore a cover by Surrey vocalist Alexa Goddard makes the track’s second appearance in the top 40, entering as it does at #26 this week. The Wanted – Lose My Mind enters at #29 New boyband The Wanted score a third top 40 hit this week, following a performance on the X-Factor of Lose My Mind. This follows in the footsteps of #1 debut All Time Low and #2 follow up Heart Vacancy, all 3 tracks are taken from their self titled album. Lose My Mind is due a full release in 3 week’s time so I fully expect this to be another top 10 hit for the lads. Take That stay at #1 in the albums chart As expected with the first 2 week’s high sales, Progress by Take That stays at #1 for a third successive week. This week’s highest new entry at #2 is the debut self titled album from X-Factor runner up Olly Murs, featuring #1 single Please Don’t Let Me Go and current #4 hit Thinking Of Me. In at #7 is the third album from N-Dubz entitled Love Live Life, entering just 1 place lower than its predecessor and 4 places higher than the debut. Duffy seems unable to follow up the huge success of #1 debut Rockferry as her second album Endlessly enters at #9, featuring flop single Well Well Well. The Beginning comes after The END for the Black Eyed Peas, but seems so far unable to match its huge success, entering as it does at #17. Personal opinion I still hate the X-Factor Finalists ruination of Bowie’s Heroes but it’s for a very good cause to I’m not complaining about it spending a second week at #1. However it is so unlucky that Ellie Goulding’s lovely rendition of Your Song is stuck at #2 again. I really like Nicole’s song Poison, it’s so catchy and wouldn’t have complained it that made #1 instead. I quite like Who’s That Chick, but not as much as other Rihanna songs and other Guetta songs for that matter. I love Coldplay’s new xmas song, it’s so good to see a new xmas song make it in, above the classic ones as well. I hate N-Dubz new song just as I do almost everything else they’ve done, same for that rubbish Turn My Swag On. Not too keen on that Afrojack nonsense either, decent singer but not decent song IMO. The new one from The Wanted is rather good even if it does sound rather like Use Somebody in places. Edited December 5, 201014 yr by loudjamesbond
December 5, 201014 yr As Rihanna has 3 Top 10 Hits this Week, I did some research. She's only the 6th Artist to achieve it. She's also the first Female to do so, since 1955. And only the 2nd Artist to have her 3 Top 10 Hits next to each other - Frankie Laine did it in the W/E 17th October 1953 Chart. ACTS WITH 3 - OR MORE - SIMULTANEOUS TOP 10 SINGLES This has been achieved by just 6 Acts - Vera Lynn, (1 Week), Frankie Laine, (8 Weeks), Ruby Murray, (4 Weeks), The Shadows, (1 Week), John Lennon, (5 Weeks), & Rihanna - 1 Week(?). Only Frankie Laine, has had as many as 4 Top 10 Hits at the same time - 3 times in 1953. The other 4 are:, Vera Lynn, (1952), Ruby Murray, (1955), Madonna, (1985), & Beyonce, (2008), Ruby Murray actually achieved it for 11 Weeks, in 1955. For 1 Week in March, that Year, she had 5 Hits in the Top 20. And she had 4 Top 20 Hits, in 2 other March 1955 Charts. Rihanna is also the first Artist, to have 3 Top 10 Hits next to each other, in the same Chart, since Frankie Laine, in the W/E 17th October 1953 Chart. He was at No.2, No.3, & No.4.
