Posted December 15, 201014 yr HELLO. Now this is the End Of Year countdown you’ve presumably been waiting for. No? Well p*** off then cos it’s gonna be well amazing as I count down the top 100 most floptastic songs of the year, filled with utterly disastrous chart positions, horribly low budget videos and tacky genericness all around. HOORAH. 2010 has been rather good though hasn’t it? We’ve had better and clearly nothing will ever beat the absoulute AMAZINGNESS that was 2007 but 2010 gave it a good shot. It gave us Marina & The Diamonds and 86 Robyn albums for gods sakes. Unlike last year I shall also be counting down the top 50 albums alongside the top 100 singles since this year some people actually bothered releasing good albums. Be prepared for some utterly bizarre turns up though. My music taste as a reflection appeared to get less and less chart based as the year went on which means that everything from the first half of the year is likely to be knows by all but everything from the last few months is from people like Tarisai Vushe who I’m not even sure is a real person. 2010 Number 1’s The Saturdays – Ego (01 Week) Girls Can’t Catch – Echo (01 Week) Timbaland & Katy Perry – If We Ever Meet Again (03 Weeks) Gabriella Cilmi – On A Mission (04 Weeks) Alicia Keys – Empire State Of Mind II (02 Weeks) Sugababes – Wear My Kiss (01 Week) Chipmunk & Esmee Denters – Until You Were Gone (03 Weeks) Beverley Knight & Chaka Khan – Soul Survivor (01 Week) Glee Cast – Like A Prayer (01 Week) Macy Gray – Beauty In The World (02 Weeks) Glee Cast – Total Eclipse Of The Heart (01 Week) Kelly Rowland – Commander (06 Weeks) Shontelle – Impossible (01 Week) Marina & The Diamonds – Oh No (02 Weeks) Tarisai Vushe – Head Over Heels (03 Weeks) The Saturdays – Missing You (01 Week) BC Jean – Just A Guy (01 Week) Shy’m – Je Sais (02 Weeks) Natasha Bedingfield – Strip Me (01 Week) The Saturdays – Higher (06 Weeks) Nicole Scherzinger – Poison (02 Weeks) Japayork – Teenagers (02 Weeks) Martin Solveig feat Dragonette – Hello (02 Weeks) ADELE – Rolling In The Deep (01 Week) *The Saturdays – Ego has not been included, it was placed #3 on my 2009 EOY instead *ADELE – Rolling In The Deep and a few other 2011 releases have been included however. *If looking for male acts you have come to the wrong thread my friend This should hopefully be completed by about April. I’m not even exaggerating here I don’t think I completed my 2008 one until March 2009.
December 15, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/72/ElizaDoolittle.jpg/220px-ElizaDoolittle.jpg #50 Artist: Eliza Doolittle Title: Eliza Doolittle Peaked: #1 So were starting off with the albums then, mostly because the singles rundown is actually on my computer downstairs and I'm decided I'm too ill to retrieve them but nevertheless, Eliza Doolittle kicks us off with her self-titled debut. Truth be told this really didnt deserve to be a #1 because it's not the most impressive of albums. The 3 highlights are the 3 singles to date in 'Pack Up, 'Rollerblades' and 'Skinny Genes', whilst the rest pass on by in a nice but relatively forgettable way. The Corinne Bailey Rae gone wacky, crossed as a female Olly Murs works well though, her lyrics fly off effortlessly and care free. A nice album but nothing more.
December 15, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/12/TheWanted.jpg/220px-TheWanted.jpg #49 Artist: The Wanted Title: The Wanted Peaked: #3 I have to admit, I do rather love The Wanted, and despite having never really been a fan of boybands in the past this is very much so changing now. Debut single 'All Time Low' had quite the sophisticated substance to it that clearly made it stand out from similar appealling bands would have been relesead 5-10 years ago. Look at them and compare them to bands like V and Avenue, and it's clear someone knows what they're doing. The music itself, glistens somewhere inbetween, it hasnt quite caught up with everything else yet and there are still plenty of cheesy naff moments here however the majority is actually very good indeed. There are plenty of highs and lows, but hopefully as the band continue things will be able to sort themselves out in this department. Now let us all gaze at them topless... http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l9tolyrpdG1qd7s9ro1_400.jpg hmmmm... WANTED RANKAGE 01 Nathan 02 Siva 03 Max 04 Tom --------- 05 Token not quite as fit as the rest but needed vocally
December 15, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ad/CatchingATigerCover.jpg/220px-CatchingATigerCover.jpg #48 Artist: Lissie Title: Catching A Tiger Peaked: #5 This is somewhat more tricky and is perhaps expected to be a little higher this countdown of mine. This album was critically adored, and was hailed as brilliant by pretty much everyone. However I barely listened to it after a few weeks of first hearing it, theres no denying Lissie has talent, the songs are enjoyable to listen to and for the majority are very well done however it's failure lies in one vital department which is that it fails to keep me interested in her. Her vocal range is impressive, her folky soulful voice is wonderful but the songs fail to go with it; 'When I'm Alone' is the highlight but I dont feel it is as good as it could be somewhat so.
December 15, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7c/Macy_Gray_The_Sellout_cover.jpg/220px-Macy_Gray_The_Sellout_cover.jpg #47 Artist: Macy Gray Title: The Sellout Peaked: #3 Macy Gray just about manages to not fall into the category of absoulute blandness with this record, she's become more and more of an irrelevant figure over the past few years unfortunetly which means that no one really gave this record any attention. Like Eliza Doolittle, it has it's gems here and there, namely lead single 'Beauty In The World' which is an sboulute gorgeous record. 'Lately' smoothes on by rather well and Gray appears to still be able to make it decent when putting the effort in. An improvement on the last album, and rather nice on the whole, but not exactly must have.
December 15, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/06/The_Lady_Killer_cover.jpg/220px-The_Lady_Killer_cover.jpg #46 Artist: Cee-Lo Green Title: The Lady Killer Peaked: #6 It'll be tough for Green to shake off the one hit wonder tag following the sucess worldwide of 'Forget You/f*** You', but whilst it remains to be seen if he can, theres no denying that he's made a rather nice album to go with it for us to enjoy in the meantime. This album is still reasonably new so is rather too early on the mind to be placed too high up, and especially at this time of year when it's difficult for albums to stick in the mind with so many around. However Cee-Lo has produced a great fun-filled album, his vocals are on top form and yes I think it's fair to call it his best work to date.
December 15, 201014 yr Author http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mupIVJbjvuU/TFIjecNr2WI/AAAAAAAAFew/sTgsZXbyB68/s200/Shy'm%20-%20Prendre%20L'air%20(FanMade%20Single%20Cover)%20Made%20by%20BB111111.jpg #45 Artist: Shy’m Title: Prende L’air Peaked: #2 IT’S FRENCH IT’S GOOD I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SHE’S SINGING ABOUT I do appear to have developed a liking for French Pop recently, and Shy'm here is at the forefront of it. Having been introduced to 'Je Sais' through the medium of Jark in the Teams Forum I decided to give her album a listen aswell. I do think it's difficult to fully appreciate an album in another language which you barely speak but I do really like this, the vocals are slick, the production is good and I will eventually get round to her first two albums. No really.
December 16, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7d/Brand_New_Eyes_cover.jpg/220px-Brand_New_Eyes_cover.jpg #44 Artist: Paramore Title: Brand New Eyes Peaked: #2 I realise of course that this is in fact a 2009 album however having been mostly a casual fan of Paramore, the album passed me by somewhat until 'The Only Exception' was relsead as a single. I enjoyed their previous album 'Riot!' aswell, but I do think this is better, the band's songwriting has improved and the sound has matured considerbly from the previous album, which as good as it was, was the type of album you'd imagine teenagers who wanted to be goths but found goth music scary would listen to. Despite this, some of the albums slower moments fail to deliver considebly and it's a bit to clear that it's not where the bands strengths lie clearly.
December 16, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/2c/The_Defamation_Of_Strickland_Banks.jpg/220px-The_Defamation_Of_Strickland_Banks.jpg #43 Artist: Plan B Title: The Defamation Of Strickland Banks Peaked: #5 Oh I do love a good concept album, in this particular case one of fictional soul singer Strickland Banks being wrongly imprisoned. I have to admit to having not been aware of his debut album, and 'Stay Too Long' was infact probably the first I'd heard of him. It is a move away however, and whilst others have expressed dismay at this, I feel that Plan B's crooning marvellous vocals are a joy to listen to, which when joined with the occasional rap makes for one rather enjoyable album.
December 16, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5a/M.I.A._-_Maya.jpg/220px-M.I.A._-_Maya.jpg #42 Artist: MIA Title: MAYA Peaked: #3 Following the almost universal adoration for her previous albums it was always going to be difficult for MIA to live up to it, and whilst MAYA contains some gems on it, these are only glimses of brilliant. The album on the whole fails to live up to expectation in numerous departements, if MIA wants to continue to be seen as a revolutionary artist then dear god woman, must try harder. I'm sounding a bit too harsh here perhaps considering how high up this is, but I really wanted and expected better from this. The Jay Z mix of 'XXXO' is amazing though, just to end on a positive.
December 16, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/48/RecoveryCoverOfficial.jpg/220px-RecoveryCoverOfficial.jpg #41 Artist: Eminem Title: Recovery Peaked: #6 Eminem I think it's fair to say has passed his peak now. Following the utter drivel he relesead during the Relapse era though, this was at least something of an improvment for which we are all very grateful. For me Eminem has a tendency to vary in quality hugely, he's often much better on a serious tone aswell I find, though others may disagree especially upon this album where the more fun records are scarce to find. The album seems limited though, both in Eminem's topics and in the range, whilst this is not quite a return to form for him, he's getting there.
December 16, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/35/The_Pipettes_-_Earth_vs._The_Pipettes.jpg/220px-The_Pipettes_-_Earth_vs._The_Pipettes.jpg #40 Artist: The Pipettes Title: Earths Vs The Pipettes Peaked: #1 You think the Sugababes are bad, you should see how many members this lot have lost. Following the departures of Rose and the annoying looking one with the glasses, Gwenno recruted her sister Ani, and Anna McDonald. McDonald left to be replaced by Beth Mburu-Bowie who also left soon afterwards. Gwenno Saunders makes Keisha look so easy to work with in comparisment doesnt she? Now with just the two sisters left, they relesead the follow-up to their fantastic debut. And it almost works, following from the 60's sound of the debut we jump ahead to the 80's. Presumably album #3 will be BritPop and the fourth cheap Urban. The songs are charming for the majority, float along well however theres a distinct lack of anything too exciting happening here. They're also suffering from something of an identity crisis as whislst presumably trying to sound original they end up sounding a bit like everything else. Like I said, it so nearly works that it's a shame it didnt, as theres great potential to be had here.
December 16, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4f/Sugababes_sweet_7.jpg/220px-Sugababes_sweet_7.jpg #39 Artist: Sugababes Title: Sweet 7 Peaked: #1 Oh shut up. Yes, I know it's $h!t and they're now just an embarassment to the industry and the world but I still like them. Truth be told I really liked this album upon initial release, as proved by the fact I was stupid enough to put it at #1. Months later though, and it's clear that everything's just too shockingly generic to comprehend here. The singles are enjoyable as long as you dont mind the fact they've stooped so low as 'Get Sexy'. The albums slower moments in 'Crash & Burn' and 'No More You' are rather good, and 'Sweet & Amazing' is just so ridicolous you just have to love it. The rest can be left well and firmly in the trash though. I do hope they can recover from this but frankly they will need something amazing for that to happen and I dont see anyone really all that bothered anymore.
December 16, 201014 yr Only heard Paramore, Sugababes and Eminem from that list. Sugababes was good for about a week, it just was so generic and throwaway really. Paramore's wasn't as good as I was expecting, although I do LOVE 'The Only Exception' and 'Brick By Boring Brick' off of it. Eminem's was just meh, didn't get the huge fuss. But then I've never been huge on him and only checked it out for the Pink and Rihanna collabs.
December 16, 201014 yr ALED! I am loving and living for your new font. I may steal it at one point in the not too distant future. I also insist that you check out Shym's second album Reflets. It's basically PRENDRE L'AIR but BETTER in every respect. The only negative it has going for it is that nothing on it comes close to Je Sais but you can't have it all. OH and that The Wanted magazine cover is monstrous. Three of them really are TREMENDOUSLY ugly. If it wasn't for Siva they would be the ugliest band since Kings of Leon.
December 16, 201014 yr Only heard two albums so far. Paramore is great, even though I agree it has its lows, there are some very good tracks, best of which is 'The Only Exception'. Didn't like The Wanted to begin with, but LOVE them now. Agree with your fitness ranking (Nathan ). Seeing them live in April <3 As for the album, it is very good, but has some forgettable tracks.

Agreed on most points, though my I prefered 'Ignorance' to the others regarding Paramore. ALED! I am loving and living for your new font. I may steal it at one point in the not too distant future. I even remember being told initially to listen to 'Reflects' before anything else from her, no idea why I ignored that. I promise to do so, though I take it Je Sais is pretty much her all time best? It's literally been one of my favourites of the year. It's not them at their best I admit. I think they're all kind of attractive though, theres something for everyone. Tom for the people who like to date pornstars, Nathan for the people who shouldnt date people that young, Jay for the weirdos who find that kinda thing attractive, Siva for the people who like male models and Max for the people who like rough male models. Only heard two albums so far. Paramore is great, even though I agree it has its lows, there are some very good tracks, best of which is 'The Only Exception'. December 17, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8d/AnimalKesha.jpg/220px-AnimalKesha.jpg #38 Artist: Kesha Title: Animal Peaked: #2 I think Kesha really is the type of artist you either get, or you simply dont really. On first impressions she seems horrific, trashy throwaway and awful, and this is the case for some of the songs on 'Animal', but looking behind this and theres something rather amazing. The lyrics can at times be ridicolous beyond belief and it's fair to say that the whole 'I'm drunk LOLz' act can become tiresome however I think she's rather endearing in interviews myself. Recently I've come round to finding her rather likeable and maybe she is is a bit insane awful all. The slower moments on the album failer to deliver though, and with so much auto-tuning it's difficult to tell if she can actually sing but with anthems such as 'Tik Tok' and 'Take It Off' present it's difficult to hold up much of a complaint.
December 17, 201014 yr Author http://planetill.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/JasonAlbumCover.jpg #37 Artist: Jason DeRulo Title: Jason DeRulo Peaked: #3 Jason DeRulo is an artist, who despite my like for him I do understand and to some extent agree with quite a lot of the negative feeling towards him. Again, there is quite a hollow feeling to him, the music is good but there isnt much behind it. Hits being pushed out for the sake of getting a hit and not much else. I was impressed with debut single 'Whatcha Say' simply because it seemed so different and stuck out, though looking back I'm not sure if it actually did. Second single 'In My Head' dissapointed me though, it seemed so bland and as id DeRulo had been rather lucky to work with whoever decided that sampling Imogen Heap would be a good idea. The rest of the album continues this patern of either being usual run of the mill stuff, and some pure gems. 'Ridin' Solo' is simply awesome, and 'What If' is cheesy beyond belief but remains amazing. A good album, the singles are the highlights for me I admit but I look forward to the follow-up already.
December 17, 201014 yr Author http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/df/Darin_-_LoveKiller.jpg/220px-Darin_-_LoveKiller.jpg #36 Artist: Darin Title: LoveKiller Peaked: #2 There are times where I really do wish I lived in Sweden. Then days like today happen, and I remember that Sweden's probably quite cold, so it isnt to be really, with me refusing to leave the house just because of some snow. But anyway Sweden has some marvellous music taste, no seriously BuzzJack would leave it - it's basically Pop and rubbish gais and cheap pop and nothing more. More on point however Sweden has something the UK lacks, male Pop and a lot of it. From Ola, to Erik Saade, Danny, Mans, Erik Hassle and of course Darin. Having already been made aware of him due to his RedOne duet with Kat DeLuna in 2008 I gave this a listen and was rather pleasantly suprised, this is a strong album by all accounts, though up-temps are very hard to come by and Darin has a tendency to portray himself as a bit of a cock at times. Well worth a listen to anyone who hasnt listened.
