Chipmunk & Esmee Denters

Until You Were Gone

(42-12-04-01-01-02-01-02-06-13-21-27-32-36-44) 15 Weeks

It's quite odd really, when two artists that I can usually take or leave managed to make one of my favourite songs of the year. This doesnt sound quite as amazing as it did back in April I admit, and he's still for the most part quite an awful act (the atrocity that was 'Chip Diddy Chip' can never be forgiven') but for the most part, this is a fun catchy number and the highlight of both their careers.

Forget You/f*** You

(31-19-17-11-07-04-10-18-23-29-42) 11 Weeks

Definatly should have gotten a top 3 peak. I think it's rather universally agreed really that this is a fantastic track, probably one of the most memorable songs of last year and rightfully so aswell. Just a massive anthem of it's time.

As is a recurring theme in this countdown, I really love the video for this aswell.

Girls Cant Catch

Echo

(07-02-02-03-02-01-02-03-07-12-16-21-27-31-35-36-48) 17 Weeks

Second and also last single from doomed girlband Girls Cant Catch, 'Echo' really was quite brilliant considering how ordinary they were as a group. Had it been relesead by a more high profile group it would of course have done much better but I was still rather suprised when it performed so baddly I have to admit.

Ah well, at least we now get to enjoy Daizy's doomed solo career.

Beverley Knight feat Chaka Khan

Soul Survivor

(26-11-06-07-15-19-25-22-25-31-36-26-14-13-07-04-01-04-11-22-29-40) 22 Weeks

By far the highlight of the mostly average (well, for Bev anyway) 100% album, 'Soul Survivor' saw Bev team up with the equally fabolous Chaka for the anthem of a lifetime, and they certainly delivered. 'Soul Survivor' is just unashamedly camp and all over the place. Beverley has well and truely given up on chart success I think, but when the music this good, who cares?

Natasha continued her trail of disaster with the title track being relesead, as it happens though, this turned out to be an absoulutely stunning (I overuse this word I know, but work with me here) track. I always think Natasha does these type of really uplifting songs so brilliantly, even if she does rip off Jordin Sparks's Battlefield without shame.

Marina & The Diamonds

Hollywood

(15-08-07-04-04-06-08-10-15-19-27-31-35-41-49) 15 Weeks

Now I know this should have peaked higher, but it stuck behind the holly trinity of Alicia/Timbaland/Gabriella for forever ok. Marinas first proper single was all kind of amazingness, and also contained one of the lyrics of the year in 'omg you look just like shakira, no no you're catherine zeta..' line. In fact, most of the lyrcis to this are just amazing.

Still one Marina song to come aswell. She pretty much dominated for me this year./

Dancing On My Own

(14-08-06-03-02-07-08-16-21-29-35-47) 12 Weeks

I do feel rather guilty about exclusing this from my top 10 I have to say, considering it's been named the best song of the year from numerous corners. And it is indeed an amazing record, but for me, it never quite lived up to other opinions of it if that makes sense.

I like the idea that Robyn is just a psycho in this song aswell to be honest. She's actually never met the guy she's longing for. She's just a crazy f***ed up loon like we all suspect she is.

Poison

(21-02-01-01-02-07-16-18-24-28-37-44) 12 Weeks

Who'd have thought unlikeable cuntface of the Pussycat Dolls would go on to become QoL amazingness in little over a few months? See, the X-Factor does have it's benefits after all. If she wasnt dancing along to the gayest performance of 'Proud Mary' in existance she was runing the lives of Treyc Cohen and whatshisface with the kid, by 'suggesting' changing the over 25s to over 28s. Yeah. Not so good there Nicole.

Kinda ruined it all now with the lacklusture 'Dont Hold Your Breath'. OTHERWISE of course Nicole was amazing this year, 'Poison' was an incredibly better than anything we could have imagined from her.

Alicia Keys

Empire State Of Mind Part II

(06-04-03-01-01-03-05-07-10-14-18-23-25-27-37-46-x-18-28) 18 Weeks

It's a difficult one to exclude from the top 10 at the last minute, but it has to be done, as the first of the holy trinity that dominated February/March drops out.

Now personally, this for me just about edged out the proper version as my favourite. Of course, the first version is indeed a fantastic song in it's own merit but I felt Alicia's vocals on this track were just too stunning to comprehend, it's actually unbealivable to believe how huge she now is in the UK. Who'd have thought 18 months back Alicia Keys would come close to selling a million albums in the UK?

Not her last appearance in this countdown though.

Insatiable

(03-02-02-03-02-07-12-07-17-33-44) 11 Weeks

Poor BRAVE Nadine. Lets's be honest, she was rather doomed from the start. No on in their right mind would think it a good idea to sign an exclusitivity date with sodding Tesco, a situation not helped by her bad media figure turning into a hideous one. She had possibly the worst manager I've ever seen. Rumour has it they've parted ways now, which can only lead to better things in my opinion.

Anyway, this is an amazing pop record and frankly outdoes anything that personality free, dead behind the eyes vacume has ever concieved. Should have been huge. Would have been huge if a Girls Aloud record.

Fourth, final and highest appearance for Marina on the countdown. And what a marvellous record this is, my personal favourite from her sublime album, added to by the amazing video, which I think is what the universe would be like if Marina had joined The Saturdays. Too much amazingness for one planet there.

(15-04-02-01-01-01-01-01-01-03-04-07-13-18-21-26-35-42) 18 Weeks

Oh lawd. 6 weeks at #1, this was most certainly not worthy. Saying this, as Guetta by numbers as it may be, it remains one amazing record. And I'm inclined to say that it may possibly be my favourite Kelly solo song to date. The video is just one big amazing mess aswell. Generic? Certainly so but when the generic is this good, who even cares even more?

WE BE PARTYING TO HELLA LATE! Oh Kelly.

Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart

And to think. I didnt even like this that much to start off with, anyway, this is the highest song not to get to #1 this year (outdoing Leona Lewis at #10 and Paloma Faith at #14 in previous years fact fans). There isnt anything I feel I can say about this record that hasnt been said dozens of times beforehand but this is just one big powerful beauty of a song, I cant quite decide yet if it's Alicias best - but it's certainly up there. This was absoulutely amazing when I saw her perform it live aswell. No one else knew the words but I did not care.

I always feel so sophisticated when I claim to be a fan of French Pop. Of course, she could be singing about being a whore for all I know but there we are. Highest of the two french entries this year, if this was in English, BuzzJack would be all over it like a dog on heat frankly. It's infectiously amazing, has an awesome video, she's amazing for reasons I cant quite explain and I suddenly have the desire to learn French fluently.

Head Over Heels

(46-01-01-01-03-06-10-15-21-26-33-40-45) 13 Weeks

Who? I hear you all cry, well, none over than what can only be described as the Australian Gamu, only slightly more cuntish and unbearable in terms of personality. Which therefore makes her even more amazing.

She appeared on Australian Idol a few years back, was amazing, was deemed 'fake', ranted on the show and was eliminated in 5th place. 'Head Over Heels' is very much so amazing though, and was infact the very first step in my soon to be relesead semi autobigraphy 'Aleds journey from generica BJ taste to originality amazingness'. But yes, everyone should definatly listen to this.

Martin Solveig & Dragonette

Hello

(27-01-01-02-02-05-07-04-05-08-16) 11 Weeks – Still Charting

Suprisingly, despite only just being relesead in the UK, this track has been floating about since June. Which considering how much of a summer anthem it is, maybe isnt that suprising after all. Well anyway, this is one amazing record which I just cant get sick of at all, 3 months later. I adore the video in particular, the commontators, the smug cows in the audience, the girlfriend, the manager, the unableness to decide if it's Solveig or Sinclar whos mor attractive.

Higher

(14-07-02-02-01-01-01-01-01-01-02-04-10-19-27-37-45) 17 Weeks

FRANKIE.MOLLIE.UNA.VANESSA.ROCHELLE. make their highest appearance on this years countdown, 'Ego' finished at #3 last year and 'Missing You' being erased from memory. Suprisingly, despite me being the loon I am, #3 is the highest they've ever manages on an EOY for me, fact fans.

The Flo Rida version is probably slightly preferable over the non-Flo Rida version (major soz Una middle 8) purely on the basis of the

'what you doing saturday girl?'

'im doing nothing'

line. AMAZING.

Timbaland & Katy Perry

If We Ever Meet Again

(09-01-01-02-02-02-01-02-05-05-12-13-19-23-26-36-43) 17 Weeks

By far the best thing Katy Perry ever put her name too. Bar possibly 'Hot N Cold' at a push. It's fair to say that Timbaland had a fairly lacklusture comeback with Shock Value II, except of course for this beauty. Cheap gimmicky video, and nothing hugely original about it, it was perfect for me 12 months back (yes. it really has been that long since I started this thread). Anyway, as the chart run shows, was obsessed with this record for ages. Neither have topped it to date.

On A Mission

(13-03-02-01-03-03-02-01-02-01-01-03-07-10-14-24-29-36-48) 19 Weeks

A lot of thinking actually went to this, I was torn between Timbaland, The Saturdays and Gabriella. But when compared to the previous EOY #1's, it's the only one who manages to stand its ground as an amazing song frankly, and was also the only one that I wouldnt see myself instantly regretting in a few weeks/months/days/moments.

'On A Mission' by far exceeded any expectations I had of Gabs second album, infact she really did step it up a gear on the whole, but it was clear nothing on 'Ten' was going to match this. It's amazingly fabolous, ridicolous at times, overly everything and of course, pretty much failed to set the charts alight.
