Quite a good top ten so far! I'll comment on them:

Never liked Leddra's song and I never will, but that genre is completely against my taste so it's no surprise.

'Get Outta My Way' is a brilliant song, but 'All the Lovers' always overshadows it for me.

Not heard Tove, although your comments on it make it sound brilliant!

'What's My Name?' is amazing, definitely her best since 'Disturbia' (which shall always be my favourite ).

Not heard Salem Al Fakir, I don't think.

'Green Light' is brilliant - a lot better than the other two singles and the only one I really liked.

Stromae took a while to grow, and I appreciate it's a good novelty/dance song now.

'The Flood' is good, but not their best and I feel it goes on a bit too long for me to stay interested.

So you're left with a very good top two! I'd personally prefer 'All the Lovers' (which after AGES of growing is one of my favourite songs this year too ) to top the chart, but it's your taste and I do like both songs. :P Great countdown! :cheer:

2. Kylie Minogue - All The Lovers

Chart Run: 9-1-3-3-2-1-2-1-1-1-2-2-5-9-15

Before 2010, despite being one of my favourite ever artists, Dannii's sister had never even topped my singles chart, and now she has two No.1's to her name!!! On first listen of All The Lovers, it became quite clear that it was something very special indeed, and it slotted in at #9 on my chart after just ONE listen! It of course climbed to the top the following week, even despite it being the peak of Eurovision season. And after a slightly disappointing #4 debut in the UK, it thankfully climbed into the top three on its physical release week. This song does tend to divide people. There are those that see nothing special in it and find it throwaway and then there are those like me that literally have no idea how anybody could form such an opinion on this song! The word 'euphoric' was clearly invented to describe All The Lovers. The subtle yet insistent beat layers gently behind Kylie's breathy, but less nasally than usual, vocals in the verses before launching into an absolutely glorious chorus. And then it all slows down into a piano ballad middle 8 part one before going into a completely contrasting electro breakdown in middle 8 part two, which works shockingly well! All in all, it's an absolutely incredible pop song, in my opinion the best of her career, and most definitely my second favourite song of 2010! So good it returned to #1 twice!

1. Lena Meyer-Landrut - Satellite

Chart Run: 5-5-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-3-4-7-12-20

In what was, let's face it, a pretty weak year for Eurovision (with the second highest entry only at #28 in my EOY chart!), I just thank god for Germany. Holding their newly revamped talent show styled selection process Unser Star Fur Oslo after a disasterous few years of results that made the UK look good (!), Deutschland found themselves a star in Hannover girl Lena Meyer-Landrut, a quirky teenager with an infectious personality and an acquired taste of a voice that found comparisons somewhere between Kate Nash and Bjork. In the final, Lena had three songs, as did the other finalist, the rather more pedestrian Jennifer Braun. Satellite won and Lena became an instant star, going straight in at #1 in Germany, with her other national final entries going in at No.3 and No.4!!! I didn't quite get the fuss on the first listen to the live version but the second listen sounded a lot better and then OOMPH, the studio version won me over in a big way! The hype grew and Lena, despite being from HOME OF FLOPS Germany, who had only won the contest once, almost 30 years ago, became the bookies favourite, to much shock and surprise at more old fashioned ESC fans who didn't like the song, her voice and the fact that it was actually current and not throwback Schlager maybe? With wobbly rehearsals apparently, pundits and obnervers commented that she'd be lucky to grace the top half of the leaderboard, but I remained faithful that this is not the type of song that requires note perfect vocals, but the pizazz and personality that Lena embodies. Not to mention the fact that the song was already smashing in various parts of Europe such as the Germanic speaking countries and in Scandinavia!!! The simple presentation and contemporary feel of the song did it's job, along of course with the brilliant way Lena came across on screen, and YES YES YES - Germany won the Eurovision, and in fashionable style too!!! It seemed unbelievable, but it was by a country mile (imo) the best song in the competition - a competition that would have been quite dire without it (Manga winning? No thanks). It went on to smash in the remainder of Europe, except the UK of course, although it could have been slightly bigger than the #30 hit it was if it was actually out on iTunes as soon as the contest had finished, not two days later  And it had a quite epic run in my chart with three separate stints of three weeks at #1! Despite being a Eurovision loon, the highest a ESC entry has ever scaled on my EOY chart before is #3 in 2008 for Maria Haukaas Storeng's Hold On Be Strong - so well done to Lena, and Satellite duly slots in at #11 on my all time favourite songs list (for reference, All The Lovers goes in at #20!).

MUCH as I love that top two, they're CLEARLY the wrong way round!

No! Interesting that they were both around at the same time though (hence them both constantly swapping places at #1 - couldn't make my mind up!), May was by far the best month for music in 2010 though, kick starting a disaster of a year into something quite decent!

  • Author
Nice turnout for Leddra there <3.

Yes :D Top ten single and the No.2 album, very impressive! Love her though  Can't wait for her next album!

Amazing

A Manga win wouldn't have been too bad, I loved the live performance.

Thought you might approve!

Now can she top my EOY chart two years in a row :o That would be quite an ask  Delta couldn't even do that in 2003/2004!

Her ESC song would have to be bloody damn good to manage that. I strongly suspect that GaGa will be topping my EOY in 2011 if it lives up to the hype.

Comments on the top 20 :D

1. Lena Meyer-Landrut - Satellite #1 (for 9 weeks) Really glad she won, proved to all that any Western nation can win provided they send a great song!

2. Kylie Minogue - All The Lovers #1 (for 5 weeks) One of her best singles to date, a fantastic return to form!

3. Take That - The Flood #1 (for 7 weeks) I didn't like it at first but it grew on me. I think it might be my favourite song of theirs :o

4. Stromae - Alors On Danse #1 (for 2 weeks) Didn't get this at all :(

5. Roll Deep - Green Light #1 (#1 for 4 weeks) The chorus is great! The rapping puts me off though

6. Salem Al Fakir - Keep On Walking #1 (for 3 weeks) This would have been really interesting at ESC. I really don't know what would have happened - it would have either majorly flopped (worse than Anna) or come top 5

7. Rihanna feat Drake - What's My Name #1 (for 1 week) I rather like the album as a whole, but am not keen on this track alone - Bizarrely, I think it needs the rest of the album for me to like it.

8. Tove Styrke - White Light Moment #1 (for 2 weeks) Amazing song, hope it's a hit here next year!

9. Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way #1 (for 1 week) I love this! I'm not sure if it's my favourite from her, but it's definitely in my top 5 of her back catalogue

10. Leddra Chapman - Story #1 (for 1 week) I got the promo single of this the other day for a pound  . One of my favourite tracks from the album, but it never made my chart :o

11. Boyzone - Gave It All Away #2 I wasn't so keen on this one, I preferred Love Is A Hurricane

12. Le Kid - We Should Go Home Together #2 Not a band I've paid much attention to really. Looking forward to their MF appearance next year!

13. Staygold feat Spank Rock, Lady Tigra and Damien Adore - Backseat #1 (for 3 weeks) Sad to say, I'm not a fan of this :(

14. Timoteij - Kom #1 (for 1 week) MAJORLY brilliant, as was the album. I should think this will ease into my top 5 of the year

15. Sheelah - Psycho #1 (for 1 week) This would have been great in MF - like I said before, it's like The Veronicas meets Lili & Susie, superb piece of modern Europop

16. Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart #1 (for 2 weeks) I haven't liked many of her songs, this is no difference. No One is her only career highlight for me.

17. Cheryl Cole - Promise This #1 (for 1 week) Excellent song, certainly one of the best songs the UK has produced this year - the hate she gets baffles me

18. Roll Deep - Good Times #2 I can't really remember this one. I doubt I'll be that into it though

19. The Saturdays - Higher #1 (for 2 weeks) A decent song from a very good mini-LP. Karma is still my standout track from them this year

20. Shakira feat Freshlyground - Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) #1 (for 1 week) A brilliant song for the world cup, loved it!

Fantastic countdown Rich! :D

Fantastic countdown Rich! :D

1. Agreed, here's hoping the UK pull their finger out next year in response!

2. Completely agree, stunning pop song

3. Glad it's grown on you, I'm still obsessed with it!

6. I know what you mean but I think it would have been a risk worth taking :o Kom and Manboy would have both done a lot lot better for them as well. I love Anna but I guess she was drowned in the sea of ballads :(

8. I can't imagine it will be but I can dream! Would be hilarious if it followed my previous three xmas #1's from Sara Bareilles, Agnes and Alicia Keys to be a UK top ten hit in May the following year

9. I'd rank it in my top five too along with All The Lovers, What Do I Have To Do, Some Kind Of Bliss and Wow.

10. What a shame :( I thought this could have been big in your chart!

12. What do you think of this song out of interest?

15. I agree, in fact I'm quite surprised that their name hasn't popped up in the MF final 32! I wouldn't mind a name change though actually, Sheelah sounds like some sort of Australian cork hat seller

16. I wasn't much of a fan pre her current album although I did like No One as well. I find this song really great though.

17. I guess some people just love to hate -_-

19. Yep I agree, Karma was one of my faves also and just missed my EOY top 100, along with Lady Gaga's Telephone rather more surprisingly (considering the forum we're on )

But she has 12 potential chances with all of her national final entries too :o Let's hope it does! It will take quite something to top Bad Romance!

The Germans managed to pick the best song this year, I do hope there isn't some amazing gem in the NF and then they go for something else. I don't think a NF entry would be able to top my EOY, it needs the hype of actually going to Eurovision.

Oh, I don`t like number one :(

Really? Stay The Night finished at #2 in my EOY chart last year so an NF entry definitely has chances to be my best song of the year! I guess Eurovision might help to give a song a longer chart life but STN hung around for absolutely ages anyway, just because I loved it that much!

Top 100 Songs of 2010

1. Lena Meyer-Landrut - Satellite #1 (for 9 weeks) - This is alright, it was probably the best song from Eurovision but I didn't like it that much.

2. Kylie Minogue - All The Lovers #1 (for 5 weeks) - For a Kylie song I quite like this.

3. Take That - The Flood #1 (for 7 weeks) - Not fussed with this at all, I find it just a bit better than dull.

4. Stromae - Alors On Danse #1 (for 2 weeks) - Not a fan.

6. Salem Al Fakir - Keep On Walking #1 (for 3 weeks) - This is OK.

8. Tove Styrke - White Light Moment #1 (for 2 weeks) - Definitely the best song in the top 10, it keeps growing on me!

9. Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way #1 (for 1 week) - Again, it's ok for Kylie.

10. Leddra Chapman - Story #1 (for 1 week) - I remember hearing one of her songs in BJSC which I quite liked. No idea if it was this or something else though!

Thanks Mark. Kylie's definitely been on top form this year! Nice to see some appreciation for Roll Deep, I feel a bit dirty having Green Light as high as top five, seeing as nearly everyone on the forum screamed 'non #1' when it reached the top. I thought I was the only one who genuinely loved the song  Yep Story was the BJSC song from Leddra Chapman - absolutely love it! I think Love Is A Hurricane sounds a lot like the stuff from Ronan's first album - could have easily followed Life Is A Rollercoaster or Lovin' Each Day.

But she has 12 potential chances with all of her national final entries too :o Let's hope it does! It will take quite something to top Bad Romance!

08 - You see I can actually see WLM being a smash hit here around May next year

10 - It took me a while to get into her, i think it was after A Little Easier was released that I first took much notice in her.

12 - I'm not all that fussed over it. It's decent enough, but I prefer Escape.

15 - Yeah, maybe Psycho was a potential MF candidate last year?

8. Let's hope it being my xmas #1 was a good omen :kink: Seriously though, I can't see it at all - the only Scandi music that EVER crosses over to the UK is pop that can be marketed as dance music a la September/Agnes or indeed actual dance music such as Swedish House Mafia/Eric Prydz. Tove doesn't really fall into the dance genre by any stretch of the imagination and I can't see which label would firstly sign her, and secondly market her correctly in the UK. Of course I'd love it to be huge but the signs are that it won't even be given a chance. The charts are almost completely dominated by UK/US acts now - other countries just don't get a look in really :( It's all so much more closed minded than it was ten years ago.

10. Funnily enough, that's easily my least favourite single of hers

12. I loved Escape too, and Mercy Mercy. Telephone is their weak link so far imo...

15. It could well have been looking at the timing of its leak I guess...it's more or less the right length too

Hi Rich
