I'm surprised there's no thread yet, so I'll make this as a joint thread for the upcoming Christmas special and the sixth (or 32nd) series (which is being split at episode seven and shall then return in the Autumn).

The Christmas episode features Matt Smith as the Doctor, with Karen Gillian and Arthur Darvill as Amy Pond and Rory Williams; his two companions. The main guest stars are Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins, and the plot is based on Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.

In the sixth series, it shall open with a two-parter, featuring Alex Kingston as River Song. Episode four has a guest-appearance from Suranne Jones. Episode four is another stand-alone episode, whilst five and six are another two-parter and episode seven is part one of a story, to be concluded in the Autumn.

SERIES 6 IS GOING TO BE SO AMAZING. Who is River Song? What is the silence? All shall become answered and no returning villains :D The Daleks REALLY need a break.

As for the Christmas special, really looks great, but I've heard it's not as easy going as past specials (normally the specials are made so anyone can watch them who doesn't normally follow the show).

Can't wait! :D

hopefully this series will be slightly better than the last- which, looking back on it, was quite disappointing :(

:w00t: Excitement is running through my veins.

I'm looking forward to the epic cliffhanger at the end of Episode 7. It's got to be REALLY good to warrant having such a huge gap before the conclusion.

Not hugely excited about the Christmas special, doesn't sound very interesting, but definitely looking forward to Series 6.

I'm going to be really pissed off if there's even one mention of the Daleks in the series finale though. It's getting a bit old. If they do a Dalek episode mid-series that'll be fine though.

EDIT: Oh, apparently there are no returning villains. Shame really, they need to resurrect the Ice Warriors as they've resurrected almost all the other big villains.

I SEE YOU LEARNT TO READ MY POST THEN BRAY. ^_^

VERY excited for the Christmas special and Series 6! I forgot that there was going to be the gap halfway through the next series.

Doctor Who Magazine and the Moff himself!

Looking forward to this muchly. We have a strict rule about not watching tv on Christmas day but this will definitely be the only thing I bother to record and watch later on.
Watching Doctor Who on Xmas day really has become part of Christmas for me.. This years episode looks brilliant! Can't wait! :D

Here here. They were always my favourites

I sat through an hour of this and it was really bad, worst Xmas episode ever. I think Katherine Jenkins saved the episode more than anything.
It wasn't 'really bad' at all.... It was a Christmas episode so to expect itbto be amazing is silly. I really enjoyed it, it was certainly better than most of Tennants Xmas eps. Loving Matt as the Doctor so much.
I missed the first ten minutes, but I thought that was a good episode overall, the new series looks a bit more 'action movie' than sci-fi, hopefully it will still be good

Didnt have any high expectations for this, the entirity of the last series was very hit & miss, and considering how p*** poor the special usually are, PLUS the addition of Katherine Jenkins, well, it was going to be miracle if any of us got out without being a tiny bit suicidal.

HOWEVER it was probably the best of the christmas episodes in recent years. Failed to pay attention to certain parts which meant it became somewhat confusing, but on the whole really decent episode. Amy was underused which was a shame though. Previews seemed great aswell.

It was very good until they got to the Christmas Eve bits where I felt it was too sentimental which seems to be a trend in Moffat's series.
I barely followed at all in the first 12 minutes or so as everyone was talking too loudly. I couldn't really understood what was going on. Nonetheless, not awful, but not the best of the Xmas specials. Still have high hopes for Series 6 though :D

It was an alright episode, not better than last year's though. I found it really sad when Kazran didn't return to Abigail after that Christmas, but other than that it was a really confusing episode. I loved Pooky too. <3
Series 6 preview is literally AMAZING! I can't wait for more River Song
