August 27, 201113 yr oh, I quite liked Fear Her :o (although I pretty much liked the whole of that series) Love & Monsters for me was easily the worst episode since the reboot
August 27, 201113 yr Not quite the episode I had hoped for as I still feel there's a classic Who story with 1930s Germany and The Doctor waiting to happen but it did tie up a fair few questions even if some were left begging. Actually warming to River now she's not so smug all the time. I can only guess they decided to enact River's punishment immediately as she was described as the greatest war criminal of all time and because her act of killing the Doctor had already happened in a previous regeneration as 'the impossible astronaut'. This episode is clearly her redemption from past deeds and it's clear too that the timeline regarding The Doctor's death is not fixed.
August 27, 201113 yr oh, I quite liked Fear Her :o (although I pretty much liked the whole of that series) Love & Monsters for me was easily the worst episode since the reboot Oh, Love And Monsters. That has to be the worst, although Fear Her isn't far behind. Can't think of any other bad episodes throughout the rest of the reboot, though, tbh. Thinking about it, my favourite parts of Let's Kill Hitler were the parts looking at Nazi Germany. All this stuff with the Justice robot was actually quite boring. They advanced the plot, sure, but more Hitler and Nazis would have been far more fun from the bits we've got. Nazis tend to be badly done in fiction. What we saw for a few minutes in that episode was actually pretty damn good. Also, I love Alex Kingston, but the character of River Song is wearing thin on me. Mels was an interesting character, but the minute the 'penny dropped' and I realised that she was just another incarnation of River Song, I lost a bit of interest.
August 27, 201113 yr (Oh and the next episode looks horrible!) Suedehead rule number one. Never watch the preview of the next episode of any programme. Wait until it is shown and watch it in context and in the right order.
August 28, 201113 yr Okay, whatever it was that bothered me last night, I'm over it now. It's funny how that happens to me sometimes.
August 28, 201113 yr I don't know what to think really. It was a good episode, but something about it made me sad. I don't know, perhaps I didn't like seeing River before she was the River we knew. Can't put my finger on it. I feel like this too. River is EPIC as we know her now. I didn't like her being evil and psychotic and thought her sudden transformation into what we know now (saving his life, calling him sweety) was all rather rushed. All in all, a character with as much mystery behind her as River deserves a bit more than what that episode gave imo. I'm not happy with the answers I was given and how it was all executed. (Although her being Mels - who was FIERCE - was a fabulous idea.) The robot thing was a nice idea but I'm not sure it made a lot of sense and seemed all a bit elaborate/over-the-top. Again, it wasn't executed as well it could've been. An average episode to kickstart the second half of the series.
August 29, 201113 yr Author The overnight ratings had this at 6.2 million (and the second most-watched of this series), but officials are normally a lot higher for Doctor Who (with 'The Impossible Astronaut' gaining 2 million+ on BARB), so it most likely will get in the 8 million region. I watched the episode again today, and I felt it a was a lot better (as I normally do), due to knowing how the plots tied - which made it easier to understand. Also, does anyone else think Arthur Darvill is looking a lot FITTER recently?!
August 31, 201113 yr The latest episode was pretty cool, the only thing I didn't like was I thought the bit about Mel was a bit rushed and weird. It would have been neat if she had appeared earlier in the series.
August 31, 201113 yr the only thing I didn't like was I thought the bit about Mel was a bit rushed and weird. It would have been neat if she had appeared earlier in the series. Actually I do agree with this. It probably would have given the whole scene more effect if we'd met her before as opposed to her just showing up and going "oh, that's River then". I've just watched Impossible Astrounaut/Day Of The Moon again in the hope of understanding a bit more after A Good Man Goes To War/Let's Kill Hitler. It's safe to say I'm more confused
August 31, 201113 yr The question is, what is the question  Be interesting to see how they get around the Doctor's death. Just hope it isn't another huge RESET button.
August 31, 201113 yr Maybe they're finally going to give a fixed point in time the old one two? :P Although I bet it'll be something like it's not actually the doctor but a copy of him. That would be pretty lame though. I wonder if it'll involve Amy & Rory being screwed in some fashion a la Rose. They'll probably be wanting to cart off Amy & Rory soon to get the next partner in won't they?
September 3, 201113 yr Author Such a boring episode tonight, and a huge step-back from last week's. I really hope the pace picks up next week, because there's been so many disappointing episodes this series :(
September 3, 201113 yr It was a quite nice monster of the week thing tonight, but at the same time, it felt so similar to a lot of other episodes. But an episode without the arc is a good break from all the arc stuff we've had recently.
September 3, 201113 yr Hmm, can't see this one meeting a warm reception, judging it just as a filler episode, it was a decent enough. I don't think it was really scary enough though, the 'young children's room' horror idea usually really creeps me out, but this just wasn't that scary
September 3, 201113 yr It was a decent episode, but I'd agree in it being filler really. The old lady, Elsie, is my new favourite person though. She needs her own spin-off. 'ARE YOU ERE FOR THE BINS' is my new catchphrase.
September 3, 201113 yr This episode was pretty good up until we saw the "monsters" and it spiralled downwards from that point onwards. I kept drawing comparisons to 'Fear Her' which is never a good thing to be doing when you're watching Doctor Who  I still maintain that there hasn't been a BAD episode of Dr Who since Matt Smith took over and the majority has been very strong.
