I didn't like it as much a last week, it was replete with lovely little DW moments and some funny lines ('those things that aren't kestrels' and Matt's exuberant attitude to everything as ever) but the pacing let it down a bit. It took a long time to get MOVING but then the resolution was over and done with in a flash. I mean even a filler episode of Who is just about the best thing on British TV, but I hope this is the weakest of this lot.

I enjoyed it, but it was a bit lame. The trailer didn't exactly fill me with hope, but this seemed like a filler episode for the young fans. Dinosaurs, robots with funny voices and a generic bad guy from Harry Potter - I felt like I should have been 10 years old to get maximum enjoyment from this episode. Hopefully it'll retrospectively be an episode of relevance (I'm hoping Nefertiti returns in a future episode or something), fingers crossed next week is better!

I have to admit that I was in hysterics during various parts of the episode (the main one being the Doctor running over to snog Rory), but I have to agree that the plot didn't seem to go anywhere for a long time. A filler episode definitely, but a very good one at that. For Mikey:

Rory's dad is listed for episode 4, The Power of Three.

What really struck me about the episode was two things really and both didn't seem to fit with The Doctor's character. First he is friends with Riddell, a big game hunter from Africa. This is a man who enjoys and gets his reputation from shooting innocent creatures and yet he clearly despises the villain can't remember his name) who trades in valuable commodities. True, he murdered all the Silurians but how exactly is he that different from Riddell? Or are we to believe that The Doctor cares little for Elephants, Lions etc? Surely he would rather despise Riddell too?

Secondly in the finale The Doctor allowing the bad guy to be killed when he could easily have saved him by just launching his ship and taking him with him. Yes, the guy was scum but The Doctor is no killer.

As for the rest of it, well it was ok. I liked the basic plot but Riddell offered nothing of merit. If they wanted someone to play off with Nefertiti then Howard Carter would have been a better choice. In fact I thought it was going to be him initially. Nefertiti indeed was only there to drive the final act although she was kind of fun. h and I couldn't decide whether Mitchell and Webb's robots we funny or annoying. A bit too much like R2-D2 and C3PO for me

Not as good as the first episode

The Doctor is a killer. He just gives his enemies a choice. He warned Solomon throughout the episode and the latter kept threatening them and tried to kill them.

I agree, though, that Neffy and Riddell were useless, the episode could work better without them.

I know he has allowed people to die in the past and strangely I feel that's something very particular to David Tennant's Doctor whereas pretty much all the previous incarnations have felt much more remorse over seeing someone killed (Davison particularly) and been more forgiving, for want of a better word. In this episode The Doctor seemed very cold about it with taunting Solomon over the begging of the Silurians ad no final offer to redeem himself.

Almost forgot too the neat little homage to 2001 with the robots singing Daisy Bell

The episode was alright, nothing overly exciting really.

I will admit it was strange that the Doctor just had Solomon killed outright. Even if the Doctor is a killer he's always shown distaste for it when it can be avoided. Usually if they die in the final moments it's because they betrayed his trust. I suppose Solomon did kill thousands of aliens already so I guess they had some sway on the doctors decision though. Still he's usually above that when it comes to killing. Almost to the point where it's us the viewers who can't understand why he would try to save somebody so cruel and evil.

I'm not really liking how these episodes start off really. The doctor swanning around the place picking random people up (even moreso this episode with the egyptian queen and hunter guy who made no sense at all) I would rather his companions were actually his companions. Is that what it's going to be like with Oswen? Just dropping her off and picking her up every episode? It's getting a bit jarring.

Not a fan of it at all, it didn't really scare or excite me or make me want to come back to watch it again, it was like a PG rated action film for kids...I just feel I'm a bit too old for it.

It moved FAR too quickly. I had no understanding of what they were doing at the beginning, and I didn't feel they were really resolved at the end. I will echo those who didn't see the point of the two characters, the issues didn't seem to be given any time and they didn't seem to fulfill a purpose (Rory & his dad were very good and it would've worked just fine with just them). And I'm still not sure what that queen wanted with the ship and her people? nor what the bad guy was doing to annoy her people. Maybe I wasn't paying full attention, but I don't feel it was given enough time, things were explained too quickly and needlessly complex.

Mitchell & Webb as robots were of course INSPIRED but they were underused.

.

The Queen had no idea where she was going she just followed The Doctor along for an adventure. Solomon had no idea who she was until late on and he realised she was famous and could be sold for profit

I liked it. It was obviously a bit of a filler episode with (probably) no bearing on the rest of the series, but as far as those episodes go I think it was pretty enjoyable.

Queen Neffy was an inspired choice of character, but I felt that the Rindell (?) guy was a bit of a waste and had zero purpose except to boost numbers. LOVED Rory's dad.

I'm rewatching all of the Matt Smith episodes from the start, without exeception they all improve on 2nd viewing. Fabulous stuff, sometimes new episodes seem abit rushed as they are so packed with characters and plot - this one was, albeit a romp episode, it was fun enough, and yes, Rory's Dad was great.

I should comment on this really. It was a good episode in terms of the characters, the Egyptian queen er... 'held my interest' for most of the episode and that's certainly a good thing - and I didn't mind Riddell, he played off Nefertiti adequately enough.

The plot was utterly stupid and besides Mitchell and Webb doing the best they could with the robots, all the villains were awful - the robots being far too childlike for my liking. I didn't mind that Solomon got so heartlessly killed because I just wanted him dead from the minute he started talking to the Doctor. He could have been someone FAR more interesting, and indeed at the beginning, his profile reminded me a lot of Hartnell's Doctor - no idea how that would have worked but it'd have to be fairly good.

I'd rewatch it if only for Nefertiti, but I hope they have better plots than this lined up. The titlular dinosaurs did nothing aside from act like big dogs which was also a huge waste of potential imo (and a disappointment tbh).

What a fantastic episode - full of action and emotion. The acting all round was superb, Rory didn't get much to do though. :P But seriously, I enjoyed it so much more than I imagined.
Really enjoyed this episode much more than the previous two. I loved the whole focus on the Doctor's morality and the ending was great.
I suppose that was a bit of a hit with me, not bad episode, I laughed when the Birdie Song came on.

That wasn't QUITE as good as I had hoped, but it was much better then last weeks anyway. It took a little bit too long to get going for me and then resolved it all a little bit too quickly too. I did like them gradually building in a story for Amy/Rory going though, rather than just having it first be mentioned next week, even if I don't actually want them to go. It was good to see good old Savonarola resurrected as an Anakin Skywalker impersonator *.*

Oh and Kate was pretty great, I hope she pops up again, she really didn't DO very much.

The latest episode was ok I guess. It was pretty nonsensical though and not in the good way.

I thought the villain was a bit of a letdown....what exactly was he doing? I didn't really understand that. He just had a vendetta against humanity?

Hmm, I preferred last week's (which had a character with MY name being important to the story, that NEVER HAPPENS).. but there was a far more interesting story after all - and the first time in a while this series has felt grown-up in its stories.

For this week, the whole cube thing felt a little anticlimatic, and was effectively 45 minutes of buildup to a lame pun to explain the title to stupid people. But there were some good scenes with Amy, Rory and the Doctor, and next week looks interesting, I hope the Weeping Angels will do us proud again, as opposed to offering diminishing returns each time.

Third episode in a row that didn't impress me, plus I find myself cringing to Matt Smith's performance more and more these days. They should cut the silly stuff out of the episodes.
