March 20, 200619 yr where are westlife? World of our own sold 5 mil. The album at #40 exceeds that! Even at 5 million it would not make the list would it ;)
March 20, 200619 yr Author This chart has been surveyed since january 2003 not 2001 like I misinformed on the title. Sorry :) This United World Chart contains album sales of USA Canada Japan UK France Germany Austria Switzerland Australia Spain Italy Brazil Mexico Netherlands Sweden Norway Denmark Belgium Finland Portugal Poland New Zealand Malaysia and Argentina
March 20, 200619 yr Author where are westlife? World of our own sold 5 mil. This was released 2001, right? Thanks for your message, otherwise I wouldn`t have noticed the mistake on the title.
March 20, 200619 yr I'm sure Laundry Service has sold 13million copies. I think it's because there are only two latin american countries in that list.
March 20, 200619 yr Author I'm sure Laundry Service has sold 13million copies. I think it's because there are only two latin american countries in that list. Or maybe it has been SHIPPED 13 M copies. Record companies tend to count sales on shipments.
March 20, 200619 yr There's no way Shania Twain's Up! has only sold over 8 million. I know for a fact that it had sold 11,183,000 when Mag Weekly were compiling the top 100 albums (of the year i assume) in their November 18th 2003 issue!! And I'm sure it's sold a good bit more than that now in 2006!! And why isn't Shania Twain's Greatest Hits on the list either??? It's sold over 5 million worldwide at the end of 2005 when it had only been out a few months!!! It's sold over 6 million now approximately

The results may be hotly disputed but are nonetheless fascinating, dominated as they are by the largest record-buying market on earth, the USA 1. Thriller -Michael Jackson 47million* (*47m to 51.2 million depending on the sources of information used. 2. Their Greatest Hits 1971-75 - the Eagles 31million 3= Saturday Night Fever - Soundtrack 30million 3= Come On Over - Shania Twain 30million 5. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette 29million 6= Rumours - Fleetwood Mac 26million 6= Four Symbols (IV) - Led Zeppelin 26million 8. Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf 24million 9= Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd 23million 9= 1 - The Beatles 23million 9= Hotel California - The Eagles 23million 9= Back In Black - AC\DC 23million " Every time there is a survey with the world's best selling artists or albums, there has always been disagreements regarding its factual accuracy, because even today in many countries we don't actual know how many records are sold on a weekly basis & we knew a lot less in the past. :o
March 20, 200619 yr To quote the Guinness Book Of Hit Singles & Albums when discussing the world's best seeling albums in their 2004 edition: "Accepting that it is notoriously difficult to pin down accurate sales worldwide, we still think it is worth printing here the results of our research from figures we have collected over the years . It hasn't been re-certified globally in years and I guarantee it would have sold a good few more in the last couple of years. I'm surprised the Guineess Book of Hit Singles and Albums put it at such a lower number... And as far as Up goes....It has sold: Over 5.5 million soundscan sales (certified 11 times platinum cos there's 2 cd's, the only place that certifies it as a double album). It is double diamond in Canada which is another 2 million sales. It also sold 900,000+ copies in Germany (can't remember exact number, it might have crossed a million), plus another 750,000+ in the UK. From just those 4 countries alone there are over the counter sales of at least 9 million. It was also very successful in a lot of other countries such as France, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa and Japan which I don't have the exact sales figures for. This is why I'm pretty sure the 8.4 million quoted in this list is incorrect...
March 21, 200619 yr Author You might be right about Shania, but then again, if it`s certified, it`s SHIPPED and it doesn`t necessarily mean that that many people actually OWNS the album. These figures show how much people actually have BOUGHT the album on the countries above.

The number would be even higher if it was just the shipments!! I'm positive the 8.4 million is wrong.... makes me wonder whether there's any other mistakes on the list..

March 22, 200619 yr Author might be. these sales figures are combined only official sales charts around the world. i`m a madonna fan myself, and i know that it has been stated that confessions on a dance floor has sold 7.4 M so far - here the number is slightly under 6 M.

That makes sense now!! I don't suppose you know how much Up! sold worldwide in 2002 when it was released in November  I've been trying to get the "official" total numbers or close to it for months!! I can't find it anywhere
