According to Mediatraffic. These sales figures doesn`t include album sales of some Asian and African countries (for example Russia, Thailand and South Africa). Copies sold are how much people have actually bought the album so far, not shipped.

The album at #40 exceeds that!

Even at 5 million it would not make the list would it ;)

This was released 2001, right? Thanks for your message, otherwise I wouldn`t have noticed the mistake on the title.

I'm sure Laundry Service has sold 13million copies. I think it's because there are only two latin american countries in that list.

Or maybe it has been SHIPPED 13 M copies. Record companies tend to count sales on shipments.

There's no way Shania Twain's Up! has only sold over 8 million. I know for a fact that it had sold 11,183,000 when Mag Weekly were compiling the top 100 albums (of the year i assume) in their November 18th 2003 issue!! And I'm sure it's sold a good bit more than that now in 2006!!

And why isn't Shania Twain's Greatest Hits on the list either??? It's sold over 5 million worldwide at the end of 2005 when it had only been out a few months!!! :huh: It's sold over 6 million now approximately

To quote the Guinness Book Of Hit Singles & Albums when discussing the world's best selling albums in their 2004 edition:

"Accepting that it is notoriously difficult to pin down accurate sales worldwide, we still think it is worth printing here the results of our research from figures we have collected over the years . The results may be hotly disputed but are nonetheless fascinating, dominated as they are by the largest record-buying market on earth, the USA

1. Thriller -Michael Jackson 47million* (*47m to 51.2 million depending on the sources of information used.

2. Their Greatest Hits 1971-75 - the Eagles 31million

3= Saturday Night Fever - Soundtrack 30million

3= Come On Over - Shania Twain 30million

5. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette 29million

6= Rumours - Fleetwood Mac 26million

6= Four Symbols (IV) - Led Zeppelin 26million

8. Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf 24million

9= Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd 23million

9= 1 - The Beatles 23million

9= Hotel California - The Eagles 23million

9= Back In Black - AC\DC 23million "

Every time there is a survey with the world's best selling artists or albums, there has always been disagreements regarding its factual accuracy, because even today in many countries we don't actual know how many records are sold on a weekly basis & we knew a lot less in the past. :o

Believe me....I'm well aware how difficult it is to calculate the total sales for albums but those figures are just waaaaay off :huh: , and I'm not even saying this as a deluded fan (like the COUNTLESS Britney fans who grossly inflate her album sales :rolleyes: ) Before Up!'s release Come On Over had sold 34-35 million copies worldwide, and that was from the record company itself!! It hasn't been re-certified globally in years and I guarantee it would have sold a good few more in the last couple of years. I'm surprised the Guineess Book of Hit Singles and Albums put it at such a lower number...

And as far as Up goes....It has sold:

Over 5.5 million soundscan sales (certified 11 times platinum cos there's 2 cd's, the only place that certifies it as a double album). It is double diamond in Canada which is another 2 million sales. It also sold 900,000+ copies in Germany (can't remember exact number, it might have crossed a million), plus another 750,000+ in the UK.

From just those 4 countries alone there are over the counter sales of at least 9 million. It was also very successful in a lot of other countries such as France, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa and Japan which I don't have the exact sales figures for. This is why I'm pretty sure the 8.4 million quoted in this list is incorrect...

You might be right about Shania, but then again, if it`s certified, it`s SHIPPED and it doesn`t necessarily mean that that many people actually OWNS the album. These figures show how much people actually have BOUGHT the album on the countries above.
hmmm..... didn't anastacia's 3rd album sell about 7 million worldwide?

My last post stated the actual SALES of Up! in 4 countries, not the shipments. The number would be even higher if it was just the shipments!! I'm positive the 8.4 million is wrong.... makes me wonder whether there's any other mistakes on the list.. :rolleyes:

if you had read the message i sent earlier, you would have notices that these album sales are not from 2001 like i misinformed on the title, but starting form january 2003. isn`t shania`s up released earlier than that? so there`s only part of the sales included. same goes to every artist that has released album earlier than 2003 january. :)

might be. these sales figures are combined only official sales charts around the world. i`m a madonna fan myself, and i know that it has been stated that confessions on a dance floor has sold 7.4 M so far - here the number is slightly under 6 M.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, I must have missed that!! That makes sense now!! :lol:

I don't suppose you know how much Up! sold worldwide in 2002 when it was released in November :wub:

I've been trying to get the "official" total numbers or close to it for months!! I can't find it anywhere :angry:
